  1. Ah, sorry if I came off as excessively snarky. I wasn't familiar with the idiom "segway" and one definition I found online was "non sequitur". I tend to insert my big bro sales pitch at every possible chance so I'm used to people lashing out with sarcasm. Good catch, I actually missed that. I don't know if it's glitchy or if it's that way by design, but it's definitely not user-friendly. I have to go into BBCode mode to work with quotes 95% of the time. Anyway, I've derailed the thread enough. So... what I did. I "went" (as much as falling off the bed can be considered "going") to work. And will remain here until midnight. I can foresee a posting spree coming.
  2. The Star Wars Franchise was on a big sale a month or two ago. Of course. When they added the JK games, right? I completely forgot about that. Still, kinda iffy that there is absolutely no discount on any SW games (well, except Pinball) on Steam either.
  3. That's a great segway! Nice one! Maybe I should elaborate; I thought it was common knowledge that companies will happily provide any information they have gathered about you to the gov't. You explicitly agree to this by using their devices and services (I can't read Swedish but I figure it's more or less the same): So you pay for an expensive device that records everything you say, and this info is passed along to law enforcement when they require it. Pretty much what you were describing. In addition, those TVs have a "facial recognition" camera, which -unsurprisingly- has been hacked in the past. I'm not making this stuff up, mate.
  4. So it seems the sale is ending in ~40h and they have brought all the deals back. Is his standard practice? Funny thing, no Star Wars games have been on sale either on GOG or Steam. I wonder what's up with that.
  5. Heh. A prominent Spanish 20th century intellectual allegedly said that "fascism is cured by reading, and racism is cured by travelling". Then again, he was executed by a mob of slack-jawed yahoos whose rallying cry was "Long live death!" and "Death to intelligence!", so maybe watch out... Because that would be impossibly expensive, most likely. If, on the other hand, each family were to pay for their own eavesdropping device... For anyone interested in privacy, big bro, data collection and so on, I recommend watching Terms and Conditions May Apply. Oh, and what did I do today? Slept late, skipped today's training session (deload week so no biggie) and got mentally prepared for this weekend's marathon shift. You guys really help me hold on to (what little is left of) my sanity...
  6. Yeah thats pretty much why majority of F1/2 game hate Bethesda I don't know about the "majority", but there are plenty of reasons to hate Bethesda/Zenimax that have nothing to do with their design decisions. It really is a ****ty company, but some people take the aversion to frankly stupid extremes.
  7. I think you have some extra letters there. Well, Alanschu (if you remember him) worked QA for SWTOR and back before the game was released, he said that content-wise the game was effectively KotOR 3, 4, 5 and 6. Having completed all stories, it's hard to disagree with that, it's just that the content was presented in the typical MMO soul-crushing grind format. Now with the (more or less) perpetual 12x XP bonus for subscribers and as the gear kinks have been ironed out, it's possible to play through the story and ignore all multiplayer content, the boring planetary quest lines, and PVP, making it for all intents and purposes a single player experience.
  8. And for the same problems, same "solutions", it seems. They are going to start selling zero-to-hero level boosts. Apparently, for the expansion they are making it a single player-centric MMO-thing of sorts. Not that I'm complaining, mind. I never joined any guilds and pugged group content and PVP all day every day. Still, the lack of cross-faction play is disappointing given the direction they are going in with the story.
  9. So you actually prefer the galactic war. Smaller storylines scattered around the galaxy is how the galactic war is presented from Coruscant/Kaas to Corellia, and you get a general idea of the progress of the war along the way. In fact the Dread Masters and Revan plots are given a much greater sense of importance from a storyline pov than the galactic war, because "OMG impending doom!". The fake sense of urgency gets boring after a while and it's plain it's a way to avoid crafting different stories for each side. In the end, it's less content.
  10. So the Cannibal perk will be in the... Survival tree? And Finesse in... Small Guns? Yeah, if that's the case, as someone else back there said, it doesn't look like they "get" perks at all. Wait and see, I guess.
  11. Trailer's pretty cool, no doubt. But do you think we'll ever get back to the Republic vs Empire war thing that is the WHOLE PREMISE OF THE GAME instead of adding new galactic threats out of nowhere with each patch?
  12. The problem with that dialogue system is minimal compared with the likely quality problem of the writing itself. If the writing is "Have you seen my dad, middle aged guy?" quality again it hardly matters what the dialogue system is, if the writing is good then the system may be a bit limiting, but shouldn't be a major problem. AP used that dialogue system and I liked it well enough, except those times when I chose an answer and Thorton did or say something completely different from what I expected. That was offset by consistently pissing off everyone I came across so in the end it's all good. If I can do the same in FO4 and be chastised for it by the end, I'll be happy. If that's actually the case, it could work better than the previous 1-100 scale. In the old games, there was a die roll that governed skill checks, so a continuous variable made sense. From FO3 on, if, for instance, a lock required [Lockpicking 50] and you had 49, you were SOL. That sucked. However, if perks are now skills... what happens with actual perks now? Do you choose between leveling up a "skill" and picking a perk now? Yeah, I don't think I like that.
  13. Unless the device in question constantly requires you to wear a respirator mask to monitor gas exchanges, calorie counts aren't something I'd put much stock in, sorry. A VO2max test-derived calorie expenditure estimation coupled with body fat % measurement is much more reliable, and even with that there is a non-negligible error margin. Counting calories is a self-imposed torment anyway, and nobody should be doing it. Train hard, train smart, and eat as much as you need. (and then some, if you are a skinny bastard like myself) Then again, I have better things to spend $150 on, so I might just be rationalizing here. edit: oh, great. ninja'd. I definitely need to type posts faster.
  14. Yeah, I find it rather ludicrous that the innocence principle was abrogated to kick him out and not even a preponderance of evidence criteria was used when deciding to take disciplinary action against him, but now he will have to go through a lengthy court process where those factors are hurdles he will have to overcome. And in case he can't do it, he'll probably end up deep in debt, his life basically destroyed at 23. I agree, life isn't fair. Which is why the state shouldn't make things worse by making arbitrary decisions. Double standards are synonymous with unfairness. On the flipside, a strict application of the same standards to everyone in all cases means that people will sometimes get away with murder. But hey, where in that social contract you never signed says the system is infallible? Yeah...
  15. Hahaha, oh wow. Walsingham being accused of being a lefty! Welcome to the club, old boy comrade! I've seen people freak out when their favorite theory is challenged by new research, it happens relatively often in the strength and conditioning culture, and it's not a phenomenon restricted to students — I've seen people with advanced degrees throw incredibly childish tantrums and fall back to name-calling over social networks. The problem, I think, lies with the causes and mechanisms that result in those people being "the leaders of tomorrow", and those are societal and cultural, not circumscribed to universities. The Age of Reason ended a long time ago, and democracy is a word that has completely lost its meaning.
  16. "Colleges are supposed to be places of enlightenment and reason"? Funny, I thought that's just where people went for a piece of paper that supposedly improves their chances of getting a decent job, in exchange for ~15 years of indentured servitude. themoreyouknow.jpg I read this article just now, I didn't know where to post it. I figure this is as good a place as any (I don't think I'm hijacking your thread too much): Jerry Seinfeld and I are among a dying breed
  17. I stopped reading here. My original response was going to be "does it hurt to be so ignorant?", but then I realized that this is, in fact, perfectly consistent with what you've been saying all along, and it is also factually accurate. You had me going for a second there! I'll explain: by "Western ideology" you don't mean separation of powers, rule of law and popular sovereignty, because you have never explicitly alluded to this. No, by "Western ideology" you actually mean corporate plutocracy, consequentialism and authoritarian militarism. Viewed from this perspective, everything you have been saying is much more coherent and actually supported by facts. This is proof of what many have suspected all along: that you are a very successful troll, quite possibly someone else's alt, and at any rate, well acquainted with Poe's law. Bravo, good sir. Bravo. /golfclap
  18. I didn't feel they ignored the possibility of the light side ending any more than they ignored the possibility of the dark side ending — all your choices in K1 are equally irrelevant in K2 outside of a few conversations and a cameo, which I'm thankful for. Obs took the KotOR franchise and ran with it. You say that the state of affairs in K2 is hard to explain with a LS ending in the first game. It's actually harder to explain if Revan went DS: Malak had already brought the Republic to its knees, and by the end Revan has regained command of the Star Forge and handed the Republic a crushing defeat. Why didn't he finish the job? And, of course, what Gromnir said. Avellone doesn't like the idea of the Force ****ing with people's fate, so he actually cranked it up to 11 to show how it runs contrary to free will and you shouldn't like it either. Clever, no?
  19. And, for like, the 3 of you still playing this game, the next expansion has been announced: http://news.ea.com/press-release/company-news/eas-e3-2015-press-conference-be-broadcast-live-june-15-eacom Ah, so this is what Avellone has gone to work on.
  20. I had to look that up. Wormholes, zero-point energy and even negative energy I had heard about. Is over-unity a thing?
  21. I have literally no idea what you two are talking about.
  22. Well, perhaps I simply fail at writing up posts quickly? Yes? Maybe?
  23. Yeah, what I don't get is what your weed-influenced ideas have to do with conspiracies. A conspiracy involves, by its very nature, several people acting in concert. If you are pissed off because <reasons>, there are more effective ways to help you deal with it (I personally recommend going all out on 2' intervals against a punching bag) than typing up a post on the internet, which is a surefire way to get you even more pissed off. But hey, in the words of Epic Beard Man, "it's better to be pissed off than pissed on", right? edit: C... Chris? Is that you?
  24. How about we find a way to convert post counts to minutes. I estimate that a weighted average of what it takes me to write up a post is about 5 minutes (taking into consideration both drive-bys and walls of text). So my post count would be equivalent to 375+ hours spent ****posting here. Wow, more than I have logged in any one single game... T.O.M.B.S. GOTY 2015 edit: wait, that's without the hidden WoT posts. FML
  25. Lets you choose between launching a game and updating it first Updates on launch anyway
