  1. It's a roguelike so luck is intended to be a big factor and the game is weighted towards being difficult/neigh impossible. The idea is to create replayability, tension, a greater sense of accomplishment when you win and a much bigger sense of reward when something good happens. In this case that involves what ways you can equip your ship. If you're always getting murderized by the scouts then you need a rough idea of what changes you need to make to your ship to survive them and also beat the last boss and then spend every playthrough working towards that. I know that's obvious and probably sounds snarky but that is the core element of the genre of game you're playing and it's supposed to be that frustraiting. It's why I don't play FTL much . No no, I get it, I have experience with roguelikes. But consistently, over six playthroughs, I have gone through the game without trouble and getting fully upgraded. For example, on my last ship, I had good weapons, good drone systems, stealth, full shields, upgraded engines, enough crew to have expendables and more than enough resources. In the second to last area, I could pretty much kill any enemy I came across in one or two volleys. Then in the end game, the first enemy I encounter gets me or turns me into a limping wreck. I find it hard to believe that six times I have had luck throughout the entire game and bad luck in the end. Just seems like the difficulty curve is terribly balanced. It makes trying again seem kinda pointless. Sorry for making assumptions. I did find this, it won't help against the scouts (although Deraldin's advice probably will do the trick) but it has a lot of very detailed information on the final boss, full of spoilers though. Holy moly, I'm never going to defeat the end boss. I've never even made it past the 1st stage!
  2. I just picked up Assassin's Creed IV on Amazon for $30, seemed like a pretty good deal for a brand new game. It is only on sale for 1 day.
  3. The most important thing to get in FTL is that radar thingamajig that tells you what is at all the jump points. That being said, I've died on the final boss every time I've made it to the end, so what do I know?
  4. Not when trolls are on the loose. I think I've got it. Wals is a city planner.
  5. That's an outrage, I hope the University expels them.
  6. I don't know how we came up with part 2 in the last thread, we've had a ton of these NHL threads. We are probably on number 20-something.
  7. Jagr's response to Volo.
  8. I can squeeze in about 5 minutes a day, so it will take me awhile
  9. I started to watch it. Holy moly, there are a lot of cameras in the Netherlands. Honestly it simply isn't feasible to do that alcohol checking camera in the US.
  10. Well no, because with data retention your personal data will remain on their servers until one day it's felt it might be needed. Then if you ever become an undesirable in any way, it's nice and handy. But lets have this discussion when you have watched it. There's another documentary which is about much the same things, called Terms and Conditions may apply. I think that's also a worthwhile watch, especially for laymen. But what are the odds of you becoming an undesirable? And if you do, is a lack of a facebook page really going to stop an agency from gathering information about you? Obviously you need to use common sense. Putting up naked pictures and doing drugs is a dumb idea, but swearing off all social media sounds more like paranoia.
  11. I'm not going to watch an hour long thing, but isn't this data fairly useless without a clear targeting system? It is a bulldozer method, based on the pure volume of information coming in we are individually just part of the data mulch. You probably stand out more by being off the grid.
  12. I'd say the expansion has made it harder. Mechs and enemies who use rockets is a change of pace from the original. It definitely still has a lot of challenges on classic.
  13. Carter - Jason Statham doing Payback. It was going along pretty well until Jennifer Lopez showed up. She just ruined the pacing of the film completely. I don't really have an issue with her as an actress, but this was not good casting.
  14. Oby is just so unfocused. Is he pro-protesters or anti-protesters? Who knows?
  15. I lost one assault specialist that was not that highly ranked, but my snipers were able to hang far enough back to cover the retreat for everyone else, and they were simply deadly. It did remind me a bit of Terror From the Deep.
  16. Dead Man Down - This Colin Farrell revenge movie was pretty good, I enjoyed it. Acting was top-notch. I did occasionally wonder what lawless land this movie was set in, but it is best to ignore that type of thinking.
  17. Played a fantastic mission in Xcom where a whaling ship was infested with Chryssalids, and they kept pouring out of the whale carcass. It was really well set up. The great thing was I had to have one soldier run up to the control room, and I covered her with snipers on the docks while she moved. It was intense.
  18. It's pretty messed up that he receive money at all, but you can blame Anonymous for that since they posted his personal information and made it easy for him to make a case that he was being harassed as a result of his job.
  19. I'm really sad about this. I always enjoyed him as an actor.
  20. He was fired, and then sued the department for the money. Oddly enough, each student he pepper sprayed received about the same amount as he did.
  21. After playing Assassin's Creed 3 all morning, I decided to get up on my roof, clean the gutters, and put up the Christmas lights. There was less parkour involved, but it still a bit exciting at times when my feet slipped.
  22. This is beautiful.
  23. I did the same thing earlier in the week, I hate the dentist.
  24. Wow, Saint's Row 4 is on slae for $20, I couldn't resist. At this point I've bought too much already. AC3, Rogue Legacy, BG:EE, and now SR4.
  25. I'd say worth $5 or so, it was a fun little game.
