I've been going pretty good in WoW. I just reached level 61 with my panda monk and I'm entering the Outlands. It's still flying by. Speaking of which, flying mounts are pretty neat. I love how quickly I complete areas now, it really eliminates the grindy feel.

I agree. That being said, this crappy game is clearly making a shameless attempt at cashing in on negative media exposure, and it deserves to be called out as garbage.

Yeah, but if the Hannibal films were just Anthony Hopkins doing a cooking show on how to prepare humans, and then close-ups of him slurping down the meals, it would be pretty questionable what kind of consumer base they were targeting.

What do you mean? I predicted the future. Michael Choice was terrible. GD, you picked the Royals to win the Wild Card, that was pretty impressive. -
That's really the thing. Many of us played the South Park game, which was tasteless and horrible, but also hilarious and sardonic. Hatred looks rather pointless. Are the redeeming qualities that you can kill people and they will scream for mercy? Where is the audience for that? Why do people listen to Cannibal Corpse and Dying Fetus? I'm guessing those are bands.

That sounds like a lot of work Val.

I actually pledged At the Gates. It looks decent.

Thanks for all the well wishes and advice on the business. Right now I'm working on my business plan and cost analysis. My gut feeling is it will take another year for me to build up enough equity to qualify for a decent loan, but I'm going to try for a small business loan and see what they say. I was also seeing if I could find a decent partner to go in with me and match my investment, but that is not a sure thing. I have $10,000 right now and I need about $90k to start it up, but I should be up to about $20k within a year in seed money, and that should make it much easier to get a small business loan to cover the gap. My wife still has her salary to keep our family finances running, but we do need to pay off a car (it is almost there) and look at trimming some expenses. As for my backup plan, I will be taking a 1-year sabbatical when it is time to open the doors. That gives me a full year to focus on the business, and then I can re-evaluate after that. I can always go back to the classroom, it pays well and I have benefits, but I've been teaching for 14 years and I would like to challenge myself with something different.

Hatred seems to be solely based around chasing people down, standing over them, and then blowing their heads off. All while they scream for mercy. These people seem to just be walking around on the streets with no hint of provocation. It looks like you do this over and over again. How does that compare to other games and movies? I get that there is an element of that in Zombie and GTA games, but it's far from being the sole gameplay device.

So did anyone else watch the Giants series? Because Joe Buck, the announcer, was just killing me. The Giants won 4-1, and all that guy talked about was how great the Cards were. -
The best outcome would probably be for everyone to ignore Hatred. It is basically waving its arms around saying "Look at me, I'm ultra violent!" and then assuming that is all you need to sell games. It would be nice to see the market prove it wrong.

Giants magic keeps going. Phenomenal. KC versus SF will be a crazy series. -
I'm kind of freaking out about the idea of leaving my super stable teaching job and starting a bar pretty much all by myself. I've got a decent start on a business plan, a good location, and a lot of people to call on for help, but it's super risky regardless.

I'm enjoying the new WoW patch. It's different.

There is a pretty big difference between your slasher horror films and that Hatred game. Hatred looks rather pointless, really. Is there a story there? edit: I watched that trailer through to the end, and I kept expecting something to show that it is lampooning violence. Maybe it's there. At least the Postal series always recognized that it was wallowing in the muck. Anyways, the trailer was pretty horrific on a few different levels and I nearly closed it more than once. I guess I'm not a fan.

There is one thing that is certain: Dave Righetti is the greatest pitching coach of all time. -
Classy. How did they even get enough people to work on a game like that?

Lexx may have won the name game, so far my wife has already approved The Common Hops. I can see the sign looking pretty good too, maybe something simple with hops and barley worked into it. Not quite like that, but it's the right idea.

Heh, Wasteland 2 turned out a thousand times better than I expected. I really went in thinking it was going to struggle with gameplay and be unpolished, but it is a gem. It actually probably is enough to convince me to buy Torment when it comes out.

My wife is Catholic, and I attend with her somewhat regularly. But I really recommend meeting with a priest. I've had meetings with a couple different deacons, and both were a delight to discuss church history with. They had some great insights that really helped me in my own teaching.

I am thinking something along the lines of a Monastery or Priory, although I did like The Common Hops from Lexx. I also was contemplating something along the lines of The Classroom or something else suitably historical to fit my personality. We have a place called Liquid Bread down the ways and I like that type of name. Fermented Friars? Babylon Beers? This is hard.

I am thinking about starting a craft beer bar in my town, and I need a decent name.
