  1. It's important to distinguish the writing by backers (soul memories with long verbose and generally poor writing) and the developers (better than former). I just skip all the backer stuff like the plague that it is.
  2. See Planescape: torment. None of the companions were mandatory and they all play into the main plot.
  3. Dude, get yourself together, you have three developers messaging you back and forth trying to help solve your problem, one of which is the freaking CIO of the company. The very least you can be as cordial as they are with you. They're trying to help you out. The fact that this seems to be a very limited problem (so far only limited to maybe 2-3 people) should really make you "check yourself."
  4. This isn't intended to come off as rude, but I wonder why the priorities are the way they are for v1.05. Adding portrait changes and features should be much lower in priority than a decent companion AI and continued work on pathfinding. I have seen multiple reviewers and players complain about the lack of AI and how poorly the game plays without it causing frustration for players. I have not yet seen anyone complain about not having the ability to change their portrait over the duration of the game.
  5. Some of the comments show how little understanding players have for the amount of work and time that goes into making modern games. $45 for "digital" items includes a soundtrack, a novella, and a strategy guide. If you wanted to buy a digital novel online you better believe you'd be paying at least $10. The same would go for the guide and $1/track for music. Some of those customers are gredy. They want their cake and want to eat it too.
  6. I compared with the kickstarter things - the hero edition offers the exact same things as the $65 boxed copy (the only thing it doesn't have is the boxed copy). It's only $25 more - as a backer I want non-backers to pay more. Maybe next time they'll back. *shrug*
  7. all good things must - at some point - come to an end, maybe.
  8. After watching tonight's stream, I am very excited for the newest beta version. Please come out soon!
  9. Wow - very nice changes. I like how they "buffed" some stats by giving multiple defense boosts instead. Very clever.
  10. So what do we do about this, Admin? Do we just change our passwords and hope for the best?
  11. old school, by its very definition, is the opposite of forward thinking. this isn't a game for you to sit back, prop your legs up, and hit the awesome button evrey 5 seconds.
  12. Hey Josh. Can we get a list of the "non-combat" skills and a description please? There's really so much we don't know about this aspect and it's tough to be critical without this information. It would be nice to know the breakdown of classes bonuses to these skills as well. Thus far we've got: Lore - wizard Mechanics - wizard, rogue, Athletics - druid survival - druid, ranger stealth - ranger, rogue couldn't find monks, ciphers skill-bonuses.
  13. They should have said "Coming Thursday." That way, it could be ANY Thursday.
  14. Yes... Let's just bring this out in the open. I'm a backer, and I have no interest in this crap right here! < Another "Paradox" game... Download / Client Manager is required, including for gameplay User account creation is required Warranties waived (excluding physical merchantability warranties) Cover waived against any unforeseeable damages, disruptions of service Users must accept ALL changes to the Policy before playing the game. Difficult to read, understand and is inconsistently worded Drafted to only abide by the laws of Sweden1 Users not visibly notified of any changes made to the EULA / TOS Can’t review and query changes made to the EULA / TOS License to play the game only provided No refunds or exchanges for purchased games Circumvention of Steam DRM prohibited Not permitted to create “mods” Monitoring services / software are required to play Leviathan: Warship Warranties waivered (excluding physical merchantability warranties Class Action Waiver Cover waivered against any unforeseeable damages, disruptions of service Termination process dictated by Paradox Interactive Arbitration process isn’t freely-provided and is overseen by Paradox Interactive2 Note that 1 & 2 are just about a contridiction... Governed by the laws of Sweden & binding arbitration? I did not sign up and back this project for more publisher bullsh*t! If this is the way it's going to go Obsidian, you can take my signed copy right out behind the studio and toss it in the dumpster. I am GDS&T of publishers and their... crap. I have to deal with the atrocities of licensed commercial software all day long at work. I will not come home and deal with product activation and always-on bs and giving me crap about making mods. Seriously... I won't be back to kickstart anything you do, ever again. Don't make go pull Southpark off my wishlist. calm down. take a breath. then read what BAdler has written in response to the questions.
  15. DLC was a misnomer on my part. We aren't releasing small chunks of content. We will be doing a full fledged expansion on par with how CRPGs used to release expansions. The partnership with Paradox does nothing to change any of that. Keep in mind that Obsidian still fully controls the IP and is the main driver for any content going forward. We will make sure we do right by our community. It's comments like this that make me want to continue supporting Obsidian as a developer and try my hardest to make sure you guys stay independent. Never lose your humanity - we players take note.
  16. I do have sharp canines, but I'm usually not blue unless it's really cold outside. I'm extremely happy with the portrait, especially since everyone else seem to like it as much as I do. Even RPGCodex was nice to me. This is one of the source pictures used. It's a few years old, I have even less hair now so I usually just shave everything off, Heisenberg style. I hope the AI will take into account strategies like denying an enemy Moonwell by casting a Malignant Cloud on top of it. Bonus points if you have different AI profiles, so an aggressive one might ignore the damage taken and "dive" to the Moonwell if it thinks it might kill a PC in the process with the stamina gained, while a cautious/defensive/fearful AI hangs back. Doing AI for this game will probably be very challenging, but fun. I would love if that is available for modding (but I understand it might not be possible). I seem to recall Josh mentioning the intense yet strategic battles of MOBA games like Dota 2 being an inspiration? If not, they should be. There is a huge source of spells and item mechanics to draw inspiration from, and lots of pro matches to see how even seemingly weak spells can interact in interesting ways and turn even the most challenging skirmishes around if used creatively. You don't have sharp teeth at all! :D Just kidding. Your portrait makes me so jelly. As for the DOTA2 inspiration thing, I agree, but many/some? here would *violently* disagree with your point.
  17. It would be really cool if Aumaua sharp teeth are more due to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_tooth_sharpening than this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shark
  18. Please tell me that some of the druid forms are not mammals. Everything is a mammal. Boar, stag, wolf. A bird or a reptile for good measure please. Insects would be welcome as well. Otherwise, MAN OH MAN AM I EXCITED! I do like that you're going with "themes" for your classes that might sound "MMO-ish" though I'm sure they're based off prior D&D versions. But I like that that vision is clearer for newer players (after all we're all new to the mechanics in this game) and having more distinct, easily recognizable themes for your classes is very very good. It allows players to quickly learn the basic strategy of a class, and the more creative players to play classes outside of their "regular" roles.
  19. So this is incomplete because its meant to be in Aedryan (a la Beowulf), but so far what I've got is meant to be used as a tombstone or memorial near Godhammer Citadel or the Readceras area. The character count is 157 for the message and 21 for the Title. It is meant to be commentary on St. Waidwen's death. The Death of Religion (21) A death expected in its wrath (30) Though what was unexpected still (32) Was this destruction’s path (27) The impious ally filled death’s till (36) More than the enemy’s bomb hath. (32)
  20. HI Developers. I'm trying to submit a proposed memorial stone, but i need some help in terms of lore. The memorial I'm trying to write requires it be written in Aedryan as it is meant for the region of Readceras. As such, I require the definitions on Aedryan (sp?) of a few terms. Death/Destruction/killing Religion Bomb Impropriety Unexpected followers (the pious) woe (or shame) foundations killer (person who does the killing or destroying) friend enemy cunning/intelligent ignorant (adjective) And then I'd like to know basic gramattical structure of how it is written. And also some pronouns, prepositions, articles. The those of to conjugation of the verb "to do" verb "to go" negation
  21. I don't know about "Romance" dying but a memorial stone to "Mr. R. Manz" would be a nice tombstone. Ron, or "Ro" for short, always knew how to ick out the townsfolk and his prior history always left a sour taste in the mouths of many. Of crouse, that was probably because he was trying to taste the mouths of many.
  22. you have talked about weapon specialization in the past Josh, I just can't remember where. Any word on the finalized armor mechanics? There was a time where you were still figuring out all that stuff. Any new info on that end?
  23. it would be nice if certain forms are less combat oriented but more support oriented. For example, a werebird giving increased sight to the party, improving accuracy or a weremonkey giving improved climbing abilities (RP purposes) or something else like that.
