Real world people probably also have the added requirement of wanting to finish the game during their own lifetime, which makes this strategy non-viable and therefore not optimal. You could even argue that having 30% spells remaining is actually less optimal, since any remaining spells are effectively lost resources. -

Except your problem never actually occurs during play, so your solution is useless. You aren't analysing optimal play(which is the best achievable), you're analysing perfect play(the best possible), and you're ignoring several severe limitations to that to boot. Optimal play needs to make sense in realistic limitations. Yours doesn't. Therefore, it isn't optimal. You can't just redefine what optimal means and then complain that others don't follow you. -

Ogre mages in the D20 Warcraft RPG can take a feat to change their spell casting stat to CON. And they already get a racial CON bonus. Have fun with that. -

Why do you keep assuming that the player is willing to spend any arbitrary amount of time on playing the game, in chunks of arbitrary length? Players might not have the fastest time possible as their goal, but they generally do have a limit on how much time they are willing to spend on any one task. Most people also have a hard limit on how much time they can spend in a single session. Your solution is mathematically correct, but since it assumes absurd premises, the result is also absurd. Time is always a resource, and always limited. -

But only because it made sense in the D&D attribute system. It doesn't really work for PoE's, since there is no association between attributes and classes. -

So you are telling me ok, i have 20 years to finish the game, ok whatever, it´s still optimal to pause the exact same number of time, stop bringing that argument. You keep forgetting that real time keeps ticking even during pauses. Pausing isn't free, even if there is no in-game cost associated with them, and any time you waste on unnecessary pauses cannot be used for more interesting tasks that do not have to be related to the game. Your model implicitly assumes the player has no interest in anything but playing the game in the most combat efficient manner possible, which is at best absurd. So no, it won't be optimal in any realistic scenario. -

Unless you are immortal, lifetime is finite. Game time is necessarily a fraction of a beings lifetime, and therefore also finite, and i'd posit that even an immortal is unlikely to spend infinite time on playing a game in an inherently unfun way. Your argument is only true under conditions that never actually occur. Your so-called optimal playstyle is only optimal if you ignore any out-of-game concerns. -

The major flaw of your argument is that most people will react to this by simply not doing it specificially because it isn't fun. It's not a flaw of the game, it's a flaw of your supposedly optimal playstyle. -

So what is Minecraft then? A game is a system of rules which may or may not have an ultimate goal. Not all games have goals to reach, or even any way of actually ending them. Half the fun for many people is trying out various ways of using these rules in unexpected ways or adding their own to make play more interesting. Toys are simply tools to facilitate games. A video game is normally both. -

That's not clear at all. RTwP isn't a game, it's a game mechanic. I'm not sure what you're even trying to get at with your "toy" comment, since the purpose of a video game is generally the same as that of a toy anyway, so a video game being a toy is a non-issue. As for the unfun part... that's your perception. The game is unfun to you, fine. That just means it's not the right game for you, though, not that the game itself is flawed. Seriously? I'm not going to bother explaining why time being limited out-of-game is still a restriction on how much you can pause. Either you can't understand, or you don't want to. -

There's a fairly big difference between solving the problems a game presents you with, and trying to solve the game itself. That would be true... if you're immortal and have nothing to do but play PoE. Time is a limited resource for everybody else, and pausing costs time. That the game does not impose any additional restrictions on it doesn't mean that there are none. -

Since Time is not a limited resource in the game, I don´t see how is not optimal, you may be ¨wasting time¨ but wasting a not limited resource do not change the value of a move. Thus it doesn´t change if the move is optimal or not. Given that real people tend to not be immortal and have other needs, time is necessarily always limited. -

People read the OP before posting? If you already knew that, why did you even write your post? Also, 0.5s are usually more than sufficient to analyse the new situation and then pause if it warrants doing so. Pausing every 0.5s of active game time is definitely not optimal, as you would constantly be wasting time in pauses even when there is not actually anything to do in them. -

I don't think you understand what "same system" means. Beyond names, they have nothing in common. I can't even fathom where you got the idea that Perception and Resolve could in any way be connected to Wisdom and Charisma, other than being the 5th and 6th stat, respectively. They are absolutely nothing like each other. -
Yeah, a Game withoud Sound, like Baldurs Gate 20 Years before.... Some Games have it that way, and i deinstalled them 5 Times,, only installed them because anybody said they were epic... Which i think they are not. Ok.... Good RPGs will come back somtime.. Im sure I just have to wait once more Voice acting isn't what makes games good. Besides, VA is hella expensive to do properly. That's just not possible with PoE's budget, and i'd rather have more game than more voice.

Missing the point. It doesn't matter if they can see it when they are already completely convinced it's real. It still didn't stop them from acting the way they did because they didn't believe they'd go there. I'm sure it'd have a lot of impact on religions, but i doubt it would be in the way you imagine. This isn't about whether heaven and hell exist and can be visited, this is about psychology.
