Remove Restrictions and let this game breath
injurai replied to Goddard's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)A fully responsive and dynamic world would surely force the game away from Isometric, unless we are talking more of responsive in the "rp" sense. Either way, making things more responsive just means creating more systems, and more content that hooks into those systems. To make things interesting and non-repetitive instances of these systems need to be somewhat custom and bespoke. I think we already see this with the systems that are in place, and certainly I'd love to see a lot more mundane and trivial stuff added to the world, if only to flesh it out. To really have a universal simulation game, It would take years of building on subsystems to a core franchise over a number of installments. I think the best we should be asking for is a solid attempt at incrementalism.

Josh Sawyer's tweets and teasers
injurai replied to AndreaColombo's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)The only thing that would make cyan circles hard is if the category of "neutral npc" isn't being track well enough to have a clear divide as to what is neutral and what isn't. If the distinguishing data is already being track, then it's a simple change to small block of code.

The Obsidian Community all-time top 106 games (poll) - CLOSED! See new thread for results
I'll get something in eventually, I want to put some thought into it and the next few weeks make this rather low priority. I've noted the deadline.

What are you playing now
I really hope that Dishonored isn't done as a series. Or at the very least that Arkane isn't done with this genre of game. It's my absolute favorite, from SS and Deus Ex to Dishonored. But apparently sales were sort of floundering this past year. Which is why I'm hoping we'll see more.

What's on the idiot box?
The answer is clearly to divert/nuke it. Humans aren't building an ark and art surviving on Mars, sorry Elon Musk but if we can't save the planet we evolved to live on we aren't engineering our way out of a desolate one.

Rubbish melee animations
injurai replied to molotov.'s topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I'd take more variations that are distinct visual cues for different types of attacks over merely having better or more realistic animations.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - 'NON-FAKE-NEWS EDITION'
Even if they aren't technically "gambling" they are incredibly anti-consumer. Like, I get that free-economies need to encourage wealthy people to be more frivolous, but I don't think that's what is going on here. There are some whales sure, it's mostly preying on the short-sighteness of young people who waste away their parents money, all while ruining the aspects of a game that make it worth while playing on it's own merits.

Movies You've Seen (or would like to see) Recently
Old news, but still super excited about it. Just got back from seeing Magma live who were supposed to score the Alejandro Jodorowsky version that never happened, so just sayin', it'd be lovely to give them the chance to share their bit for this again (not that it'd happen but oh well, it's nice to dream a little). They would only work in a Jodorowsky interpretation of Dune, but very cool to daydream about none the less. I'm really excited that they are making this a series, it's the proper treatment that the book always needed. It's probably the densest sci-fi/fantasy book I've ever read. It's practically as dense as a Dostoyevsky novel.

- Per-Encounter spells ruin casters
Auto-casting + repeatedly using your only per-encounter spells was equally frustrating. I think the point of empower is to keep that sense of unleashing a torrent of arcane. However it's possible that maybe empower should have been a magic-user only thing.- The Music Listening thread
You've really spoiled me here :D Well know I have a new artist to delve into, much appreciated!- The Music Listening thread
^ That is crazy cool. Never heard of the guy other than that song you posted last. Although very different styles, his approach to music reminds me of Tom Waits. I also wouldn't be surprised if David Bowie took inspiration when writing Blackstar.- Companion Portraits
injurai replied to ghostwriter's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I still prefer the old portraits, but I don't think the quality or style got worse. Just the likeness is a bit "off." It's more noticeable if the first games portraits are fresh in your mind. - Per-Encounter spells ruin casters
