Josh Sawyer's tweets and teasers
Nail replied to AndreaColombo's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)It seems there will be a rare special ship encounter with swinger pirate crew. I really miss those special encounters fallout 2 had, or things like in BG like golden pantaloons / The Vampire's Revenge...

What do you think about Deflection?
I guess it's still to early to say. From the table it's clearly that DR is better in Deadfire, but from what I recall you could boost deflection up to 300 in PoE I... Probably it will be a case in deadfire too.

Josh Sawyer is asking french/ger/ita/spa/port/polish/russian players for input on how much people care about how the game deals with ship gendersyntax
I'll repeat, considering that: <player_shipname> <enemy_shipname> are constant variables in database - they could not be changed in any way only simple phrases would work 1. Obsidian should have a writer who understands Slavic languages so the simple text structure can be made, where no conjugation has place. or 2. More variables needed, to cover all cases of nouns (nominative, genitive, dative, accusative, apiary and prepositional case) <player_shipname_nom> <player_shipname_gen> <player_shipname_dat> <player_shipname_acc> <player_shipname_api> <player_shipname_pre> Something like that... From my knowledge all Slavic languages share same base, thus I made this conclusion, but I may be wrong.

It just won't work with Slavic languages if they will use this: <player_shipname> fires its cannons at <enemy_shipname>. The crew of <enemy_shipname> braces for impact as <playershipname> rams into the hull. Because there can be name declension according to the rest of the sentence or it's meaning. So there is a change in the shipname, it can't stay constant. I guess other rule set for Slavic languages should apply and that a pain in the ass, one can imagine... Poor Josh. I think the only decision is to write those encounters is very simple language. Like: <player_shipname> fires its cannons at <enemy_shipname> <enemy_shipname> is on fire and the crew braces for impact as <playershipname> rams into the hull. Sometihng like that...

Can I convince Thaos not to fight?
From what I know there is no way to persuade him not to fight. I would recommend you to review your level, party, strategy etc., but if you suffer try this: You won't get any achievements for doing this though.

Constitution vs. others
That's why I asked for any arena pvp so much on baker stage... I like to test these thing a lot, finding the best solution. A pity it's only my dreams. Still AI system was made as I asked, that's something!

Can't quickload "error loading next map" "to prevent save file corruption"
Started new game after patch, dismissed my team, only main character left, but when I viewed load option - file showed me full member list - every save was corrupted. That was right after I've entered Poko Kohara ruins (first fight forced me to load)

SAWYERISM BETRAYED - Might turns back into Strength, Resolve will affect spell damage
Nail replied to Infinitron's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Weight limit: Never liked that magic stash thing. I personally never suffered due weight system in any of so many games with that parameter, it gives more game depth, better character feeling. Wounds could give encumbered, so more options occur, that's just logical. It's pretty silly when there is no weight limit, as well as strength affecting firearms damage. FPS don't have weight and that's understandable, but Pillars is a RPG... Magic resistance: imagine it as damage reduction + % of resolve parameter influencing damage taken from spells.

SAWYERISM BETRAYED - Might turns back into Strength, Resolve will affect spell damage
Nail replied to Infinitron's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Following strength influence, I've mentioned that somewhere before, still - a pity we have no weight system in Pillars... It would be natural if strength affect weight limit, so characters with dumped strength would suffer a lot from that, alas we have no weight... And I don't understand why this basic mechanic (weight) was not implemented in PoE series! I understand that there is PoE I legacy, with already given rules, but in case when every stat matter - there will be no dumped stats. It seems so logical if: Strength: % melee damage, + fortitude rolls, + max weight limit Constitution: % health, + fortitude rolls, + max weight limit Dexterity: % action speed, + reflex rolls, + deflection Perception: + accuracy, + spell penetration, + reflex rolls, hidden things detection Intellect: % spell damage, buff / debuff duration, + will rolls Resolve: % health regeneration, + overall magic resistance, + will rolls Yes, I understand there are many things that are not in game, and probably there won't be any such changes... Still, 20 years ago we had games with almost perfect stat system, why not just improve that... For instance baldur's gate or fallout - just take that system and make some tweaks.

SAWYERISM BETRAYED - Might turns back into Strength, Resolve will affect spell damage
Nail replied to Infinitron's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)By the way... If now strength influences melee damage, isn't it a bit stupid if strength affect ranged weapons if that's not bows? Shouldn't there be a constant damage for firearms and wands / rods / scepters, so only attack speed could affect their DPS? Or I'm missing something?

Casters are still slow...
1) Chose PotD 2) Made glass cannon (max dps) wizard 3) Dismissed team 4) Leveled up to level 9 with console Result = can't play reliably solo through given content, not even close to melee classes, even with max leveling / gearing. Something has to change, probably cast speed or penetration for magic... At max beta level can't penetrate properly common enemies. Even with 20 dex it's pretty long time to cast fireball...

Attributes dumping
I'm fond of min / maxing. A pity that there is no weight system in PoE. In this case characters with low strength would feel it more than anybody else, what would be just awesome. Cut the strength to minimum - here you go, you can wear only this stiletto and a robe, no heavy loot for you I miss encumbrance...
- Can still hit with 100% hit-to-crit conversion

Update Timeline?
With so many bugs in beta I hope they will take some time to fix everything... Let it be q2 or so, better polished then raw like dos 2 But an update to try out game with fixes would be nice. Everybody have some serious CPU usage running current beta?
