2nd playthrough worse; couldnt pass 1st quest barely
OMG the horror, btw do you know what a beta is?A state of development in which the underlying mechanics should be functional for the majority. This feels more like an alpha state.

Backer beta: Developer Impressions
I like kill XP. One of the most fun way to play Fallout 2 is to kill everyone unrelated to the main quest and don't do quests at all IMO. I want to kill endless amounts of monsters and everyone else inhabiting your world. It's just a fun way to play a game, especially linear games become boring rather fast. I also like it when the amount of XP is not limited. When you can choose how to advance rather than being told you need to do hero stuff, it's a step back. You might as well display a percentage value of how much game you've absolved.

Still hoping for some tribal influences

Itemization feels bland
Man I'd be a happy pup if this game was like a turn-based Darklands mechanically. I think the interrupt mechanic could be tied better to the weapons. For example a maul should have the chance (read: difficult skill check) to knock someone out (daze, prone,...) on an interrupt move built into the weapon. The duration makes a skill check against fortitude, stand up animation speeds up through constitution because your body is fitter than others halving animation. Other weapons like a spear could make you trip and fall to the ground, duration defined by reflex save and dexterity allows you to quickly raise up because you're nimble, halving stand up animation. Visual feedback on skill checks and applied statuses is of course very necessary. Would this give "meaningless" attributes a better definition, if survival was tied to them? Every now and then I'm playing a now freeware tabletop Battletech PC conversion game called "Titans of Steel Warring Suns" which has these mechanics and it is very deep and fun IMO (and very brutal, yet rewarding).

(DPS) vs (Accuracy - Deflection). Here's the maths. Enjoy.
On top of that there are traits that give you specific weapon accuracy, compared to no traits increasing your weapon damage flat, correct me if I'm wrong. That changes the values of the individual stats slightly.

If there is a chance it may influence the music I dunno how much he's composed yet. The last statement is true and what I do often.

"No Bad Builds" a failure in practice?
Like the PoE system, you mean? No, I meant with something that isn't complete crap. But that is just your opinion on how things are for you in this state and not a fact. Why are you so butthurt over this?! Ask for a refund if you feel deceived.

Itemization feels bland
Choo Choo here comes the derail train, next stop IWD I do not like the enchanting system because you cannot farm without random encounters, making you rely on limited random drops. It would be nice if you could break your enchanted items down to their components if you want to transfer one to a new item, effectively losing money invested and for the item. Not realistic but eh

The music! Good or no?
As much as "epic" classical pieces are a standard nowadays in many RPGs, it's never been my cupcake and I've preferred the sometimes hypnotic midi rhythms of older RPGs from the early 90s. So the music did not turn me off but it didn't stand out either. Composers I fondly remember are Jeehun Hwang (Activision titles like Mechwarrior 2 and Dark Reign 1) who did some great genre fusions and Frank Klepacki who did some very catchy genre mixes. Jeremy Seoule's soundtrack to Total Annihilation was a masterpiece too which really stands out. I hope you take this in the right direction...

"No Bad Builds" a failure in practice?
PrimeJunta: I've asked what a low int character in PE represents. Apparently a well educated gentlemen that lacks the little extra on top. I want to play a bloody retarded character, seriously. I've assumed the attributes actually reflected anything.

"No Bad Builds" a failure in practice?
So many people bark their opinions on the internet and call them facts... So the core issue that's being repeated over and over is that a bonus and malus system is wanted, that equals out at some numer, say 10 = 0%, points above and below give a big bonus or malus respectively, which basically makes individual stat points having a larger effect and allows for gimped builds because who'd dump might if he recieved a malus to something that is beneficial to most if not all classes. Kinda like DND then isn't it and not in line with no bad builds. That said, I don't think a wizard should be able to dump intelligence at all, simply because one would assume wizards are kind of scholars that can read and spell. Taking Fallout as example, your character at INT < 3 could hardly talk at all. Choices were "Nuh-uh!" and "Ohhh..." and "Hmmn...?" and NPCs reflected that very well, by taking advantage of your low intellect. What's a low int character in PoE? On the other hand minimum stats in a bonus oriented system are counter intuitive too IMO, someone may want to keep the AOE% down for single target damage without affecting an entire screen (of allies and foes).

"No Bad Builds" a failure in practice?
I see Fallout being mentioned. Actually the game was very enjoyable with a character that had his INT < 3 An idea for the attribute system: less is more Frailty Unsoundness Clumsiness Kidology Idiocy Taradiddles

[Graphics/Bug] Visual bug during character creation
a) During character creation the mace weapon looks transparent. create a new character pick a a class and culture that gives you a morningstar (Priest => Old Vailia) b) Great Sword changes self illumination. create a new character pick a class and backgorund that gives you a great sword rotate the character to the left and look at the lower sword while the idle animation plays (I assume this is an issue with the normal mapping / global illumination shader which is WIP) DxDiag.txt

Stats in Backer Beta
What I am really hoping for is a conversation system how it was in NWN2 Storm of Zehir, where all party members statistics played a role in conversations. Though, that would essentially lead to more stat dumping
- Single letter change in font on enemy info text
- Auto-Pause Options bugs
