  1. Birth rates =/= sex. Plenty of people in first world countries have sex. We still have low birth rates to the point of being propped up by immigrants. But Japan probably has a bunch of factors contributing. Being overworked making people to tired for sex, the cost of having kids, overpopulation (was it Japan or China with bubble hotels?) , being desensitized to the point where reality cant satisfy you sexually*, being a shutin and/or neet, ignoring relationships for other things like anime or games (kinda like some guys in the west) or whatever else. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/oct/20/young-people-japan-stopped-having-sex *Aoyama cites one man in his early 30s, a virgin, who can't get sexually aroused unless he watches female robots on a game similar to Power Rangers. I wont even bother trying to understand Japan. They make good games and some anime I like, thats enough for me. There are people right here in America who don't get aroused unless somebody is peeing on somebody else. Without the statistics to prove some sort of wide spread societal issue and connect it to some sort of societal stimulus, he's just giving anecdotes of fetishes and it means nothing.
  2. Is my country the only one with condoms, pill, morning after pill and Sperm Banks? Do you people reproduce asexually? Because unless you're spliced with frog DNA, people have to have sex to reproduce unless they pay large amounts of money to use high technology--which isn't available to everybody for obvious reasons. The vast majority of human beings are the product of sexual intercourse, man.
  3. You are seriously equating Birth rates with having sex? Are you Roman Catholic? Um...well...they are kind of interrelated.
  4. That was a legit complaint. ****ing boob-shaped breast plates are retarded; whoever did that first concept art deserves to be shamed. Not for sexism, just for being an idiot.
  5. Heh. In BG2, I use the CLUAConsole and ctrl+j for literally every single play through. Walking through areas to get to other areas is tedious, but I honestly think it comes with the gameplay style.
  6. Some are. Some are awesome. And then there's Rapelay. Hehe I've never played that game, never going to play that game lol. That said, you got me curious on what the actual rape rate was in Japan, because it seems like they have a higher acceptance of rape in their media than we American do. Interestingly enough, the rape rate in Japan is 1 per every 100K people, while in the US, it's 27.3 for every 100K people. So despite having much more rape portrayed in their media, Japan has 27 times less rapes than the US does. Strike one against rape culture theory I guess lol. Rape is also vastly underreported in Japan, even compared to America, and then there's "eve teasing", which is basically public sexual molestation (which basically doesn't happen here, at least not anywhere to the same extent). The cultures are different and can't be compared directly, but I think there is something to the idea that Japan has outlets for those desires and behaviors which we just haven't allowed in our society.
  7. In other news, Tomonobu is a douche. Like, seriously--he makes games to troll people. He's not interested in art, he just wants you to scream and curse while breaking your controller. It makes him feel good to "beat" the players. I've ran with DM's like that; **** him.
  8. Some are. Some are awesome. And then there's Rapelay.
  9. Why? Why should that possibly be a thing? I have never heard one single legitimate reason that my representation of ones and zero's shouldn't destroy that representation of ones and zeroes, particularly not because the program interprets that collection of ones and zeroes in some way that it visually resembles a human child. That makes no ****ing sense.
  10. I'm playing on Hard, and there was nothing in the whole game that could be 2-shotted with Mind Blades, or even 4-shotted. If it was playing like that for you, then you probably had the increasing stats bug. Mind Blades was not overpowered at all. So now Obsidian is nerfing Mind Blades to cater to stat bugs? I'm on normal, but since PotD is the *only* mode that alters stats it makes no real difference. I *didn't* have the stat bug, and fact is many things could be two-shotted with Mind Blades before the patch. Xuarupis, Wichts, etc. I can't count the number of battles ended by me and grieving mother before the tanks did more than block the path.
  11. I understand their goal; they didn't just want to take down Harond, they wanted to take down his whole structure of power. I just couldn't let them hurt the innocent girl to do it!
  12. Today I ate a bowl of strawberry miniwheats in chocolate milk; it was tasty. I say that because I feel very certain that it's about as meaningful as anything else stated in this thread.
  13. The game is pretty easy (not that this is bad, the IE games were easier), so you can really get away with anything. The reason people are upset is because Wizard is already worse than Cipher/Druid and this just widens the gap. You mean wizards/druids are worse than cipher, right? Because that's how it actually is.
  14. Tier 1: Eder, Grieving Mother, Durance. Eder has a sort of cynical world-weary point of view and a low-key sort of humor that I really enjoy. I like the way that his back story ties directly into the recent events and the way that he points out some of the hypocrisy in the culture of the area. Grieving Mother is mysterious--I haven't actually unlocked much about her yet--but I really enjoy the interactions I have with her. The descriptions are vivid and engrossing, and I'm very curious about exactly what is going on (I'm still not even sure if she's human!). Durance I actually didn't like to terribly much...but I just hit the conversation where I found out about what he'd been a part of and I feel like he makes more sense now. Tier 2: Hiraivis, Kana, Aloth. I dig Kana's characterization and I love the sound of his voice. Unfortunately, I tried to play with him for about five minutes and quickly realized I despise chanters. Hiraivis I really dig, but I've been running with Aloth for practical gameplay-related reasons, so I haven't gotten to experience him much. He seems like a character I'd really like, however. Speaking of Aloth, I'm with Eder on this--I like his alternate personality more than I do Aloth himself. Aloth is very meh, very...bland. Haughty elven wizard archetype combined with pressured golden boy whose broken inside. Nothing for me there. However, I dig his spell selection and am comfortable with how he works in combat, so I'm running around with him in my party a lot. Tier 3: Sagani, Pellagina Sagani seemed really interesting, and what I got of her conversation was good. However I put her in the stronghold pretty soon in the interest of having a second off-tank, so I haven't gotten more than her opening conversation. And Pallagina I haven't even picked up yet, so I know literally nothing of her.
  15. I find this kind of argument troubling. It's legitimate to discuss an Act 4 bug even when being in Act 1. That puts pressure to devs and you will hopefully get the bug fixed till you are in Act 4. The way this solution sounds is "go away, we don't want you here". Insead of risking a ban you could read about design of gambling machines, gamification, steam cards, nudging or free-to-play shop business models. Achievements are not simple icons without any impact or meaning. People see problems and demand solutions. What's wrong in giving such feedback? Feedback does not imply a return service first. IMHO bugs and misconceptions have nothing to do with "special treatment". You're not talking about a bug or a misconception. You are wining because you don't have the achievement for funding the game, because you didn't fund the game. There's no bug and there's no misunderstanding. You're just pissy because other people have it and you don't, ignoring the fact that the reason you don't have it is because you didn't do the thing required to get it.
  16. The game is pretty easy (not that this is bad, the IE games were easier), so you can really get away with anything. The reason people are upset is because Wizard is already worse than Cipher/Druid and this just widens the gap. No it doesn't. It just fixed two broken spells. The buffs more than make up for those. If you win games by finding the broken mechanics, then exploiting the bejeezus out of them, then moaning when they get fixed, you're denying yourself a lot of fun. This is true. It is also fun to find real hard fights and, over time, figure out some really cheesy way to just dominate it. I just fought a bounty about five times, dying twice on the way up to it and three times inside the cave, before I figured a way to combine traps and seals in a narrow corridor with two tanks and some summoned creatures to make the enemy bunch up and then stack Wall of Fire and bouncing Rolling Flames along the corridor with alternating Lighting Bolts and Mind Lances to turn it into a meat grinder. Everybody except Aloth and my cipher died. It was a lot of fun.
  17. Hey, I wanted naked elves back in BG1!! Viconia, man.
  18. Yeah, well you are wrong too, because i never complained about DA:O which is the best of those series, BUT here is the thing fanboy, DA:O has NONE of this problems that POE has. Fortunately for you, there are many cRPG's made with the mechanics you like so you have lots of choice for games to play. We would very much like to keep this little retro niche we've carved ourselves with Obsidian's help though. Oh, please god. I've missed these games so much. So, so much. I don't care if a millions games of that other style are made, played, and enjoyed by the masses....I just want to be able to play these ones.
  19. I literally *just* updated a few minutes ago, so I'm assuming that was it. But that is literally an assumption.
  20. Check the announcements forum. It's a hotfix for a bug with companions made in the adventurers hall.
  21. Really? Like..seriously? Your whining because you don't have the special tag saying you spent money on the kickstarter...because you didn't spend money on the kickstarter, but what the ****ing tag anyway? Do people actually listen when you demand special treatment for nothing? Like...how often does that actually work?
  22. I want to enchant capes. Not because I need to, but because I'm a backer, I have my super-special backer cape, and I feel entitled to both wear my special cape and not give up effects. This is a game-breaking issue that needs to be fixed right now.
