  1. ^Was the poison still draining you? (I ask because Liberating Exhortation doesn't remove the effect, it just suspends it - so the effect is still there when LE runs out). I heard they were supposed to be adding a 'suspended' note on the character pop-up with a new patch but I don't know if that got implemented yet.
  2. that's what I used to think before I tried Ubuntu and Mint -> They're not all that different from running XP. There are one or two things that might need looking up, but you can install a version from within windows (installs like a windows program, deleted just as easily, but isn't a virtual machine - it's a real linux install) to check it out. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide or search for 'mint4win' for a mint version.
  3. First: No they didn't prove anything of the sort. They did however make some odd claims. Second: Yep, around 3000 years ago we had the round Earth (possibly earlier) (Perhaps not confirmed by Greek mathematicians until around 2000 years ago). The Bible (old testament) does refer to it as an orb though. If a god were to manifest in the natural world, one could prove that it existed. I agree that one can't disprove the existence of a god but one can disprove specific god claims e.g. the sun is not dragged across the sky behind the chariot of the the sun god. That doesn't prove that there is no sun god, just that the specific claim is false. Ok, ignore the first part of this message then. Well, Nakia said 'God' not 'a god' Why would the world fall into chaos? In our own world, less religious places haven't fallen into chaos; quite the reverse, they tend to score well in measures of societal health. In the PoE world, I would expect people to gnash their teeth for about a week and then get on with living life. 'Chaos' and 'Societal Health' aren't opposites - or was Stalinist Russia, or the place I live now - how it used to be when they'd tried to suppress religions - (but I'd best not mention too much as the internet's still not exactly free), a picture of 'societal health' in your view? Bringing it back to PoE - hard to say. They're still in an early renaissance level, comparing it to modern society here might not be equivalent - If many people stopped believing, what would happen? (Bearing in mind, the gods there have teeth) - might some gods accept it and others take advantage? Rymrgand (sp?) perhaps? Would there not be new 'religions' / 'cults' cropping up to fill the void? I certainly think that if there were a sudden cessation of belief, there would be civil unrest as people dealt with the bottom falling out of their ideas about the world. If this spread gradually, then society would adapt around it.
  4. ^I've never met a young-Earth creationist, guess we don't have many round where I'm from. I'm not saying delusional people can't have faith. I'm saying faith doesn't equal delusion. So bringing it back to PoE -> The people weren't delusional for not believing Iovarra (sp?) as they hadn't seen any evidence for themselves (but they did have evidence that the gods existed at least). Thaos was involved in deluding the people, I think the question (or one of them) in PoE is 'was he right to do so?' - but we're not allowed to conclude that in the game and let him continue. In the ending where Eder becomes a missionary of Eothas - is he deluding people or giving them faith? (In my first playthrough, I went with 'people should know the truth' - in the second, I tried to tell Thaos he was right...but had to fight him anyway because 'Boss Battle' )
  5. I see - it's the "despite being contradicted by reality or rational argument," bit that's the distinction for me. I know the argument's been going on for a while in the real world about God's existence - but there are smart people on both sides who think they've got 'proof' or 'strong evidence'. In my personal experience and research there is no 'proof' nor even 'strong evidence' - which is why I go on 'faith' (and why I distinguish it from 'delusion' - which I'd define as someone refusing to listen to reason because they 'know' something is the case.) Semantic argument then. I agree with the rest of what you said though
  6. ^While we're on the subject of definitions: A delusion is a belief held with strong conviction despite superior evidence to the contrary. Or from oxford dictionary: An idiosyncratic belief or impression maintained despite being contradicted by reality or rational argument, typically as a symptom of mental disorder: Faith isn't the same as maintaining a delusion (assuming we're talking about real world faith as opposed to evidence in PoE that we got, if in a flat info-dump 'this is the way it is' way). I think comparing questions of faith in Eora to ones in the real world is something of an overstep. For one, it's a fairly short narrative to get into it. For another, it's not the same situation. There is clear evidence in Eora for (a) the gods existence and (b) the creation of the gods by Engwithans. The latter isn't widespread though. I think the people of Eora do have faith in things, but it's not the same.
  7. ^It's a bit random Sometimes I'll have a flood of adventures (usually later in the game when you're more likely to have 3 or 4 people back at the stronghold) but sometimes I'll just get 'special visitor' or 'attack imminent'
  8. Or is he talking about stronghold random adventures? They show up at random after so many 'turns' (which I think are based on completing actions (like quest objectives) so resting a lot won't trigger it). If it's companion quests - see above, just play through the game and the companions will speak up if something becomes relevant.
  9. So don't install the patch until completing this run-through? (If on Steam - opt out of auto-patching for the duration). The alternative is using the console commands to reset your attributes yourself - respec's there if you want it. (And in this case wouldn't really be 'cheating' as it was outside the game that the attributes got changed in the first place).
  10. ^no quests - you can sell them to slavers or animancers. (Random stronghold 'event' - "An animancer has arrived seeking subjects for his experiments"). I've heard you can get ransom offers from family (but I've never encountered that). In my first game, I took one prisoner (a bad wizard guy) and nobody offered to ransom him. I was playing a good guy so I didn't sell him to the slaver or animancer who offered. In my next game, I was playing a cruel guy. The prisoner I took escaped before I could even make it back to the stronghold (and I didn't leave it more than a day) so no fun there either. I went back to talk to the prison guard and he didn't even comment (so I killed him ) IMO Obs need to fix it so that even reasonable security = no breaks. There can be assaults to rescue rich/influential prisoners - 'auto-resolve' might result in prisoner escaping, but not auto-breaks. I also like the idea of prisoners offering up info for their freedom - maybe for the expansion? You should also get their gear (maybe sent to treasury chest) when you take them prisoner. This could be a fun mechanic. As it stands, it's a bit random in execution.
  11. I heard it's caused by being in fast-mode (I was having same problem - running around gilded vale in fast mode, entered the blacksmith's and the commentary cut out.) Since turning off fast-mode for entering a new area (and first few steps therein to trigger the commentary), I haven't had it cut out. Just leave fast-mode off until the commentary finishes. Edit to add: You CAN pause, open inventory (commentary pauses) etc and resume the commentary once you're done with no problems of cutting out.
  12. Finished 2 playthroughs and on a third....so yes, replayability. I'll probably stop for a while after this one and wait on the expansion. Different ways to resolve quests, different factions to support (and related quests) and different endings based on your actions/decisions gives it replayability for me. The various classes to try out helps too, along with different conversation options depending on your class and attributes.
  13. 'Fatigue' is what you get while travelling / fighting. Endurance is what you lose in battle and it gets replenished after battle. Health is what you lose in battle and it doesn't get replenished after battle. (Getting hit for 10 endurance damage also removes 10 health - you just have more health than endurance so you can fight many battles before resting.) As for regen - I'm not sure of the rate but that restores 1 endurance point every so-many seconds - not health. So regen helps you last longer in a battle but not long-term over many battles as you still lose health when you're hit.
  14. I thought you could only apply one such enchantment - i.e., if you upgrade a weapon to 'fine' then you're locked out of upgrading it to 'exceptional' ??
  15. I would love to-- are you still offering it? I was not able to join the Kickstarter (you know how life and finances can be!), but am beyond in love with this game! James you might want to PM him, in case he doesn't stay tuned to this thread
  16. Don't you need to do a job for the crucible knights first to get access to Dunstan's shop + skills?
  17. I think the patches aren't up yet for physical editions but they'll be available from the backer portal (eternity.obsidian.net) at some point.
  18. Well, mages/sorcerors had 'Find traps' (disables all traps in range too) and 'knock' (opens all pickable locks in range). Sorcerors didn't even need to prep them beforehand. I always ditched the rogue companion in the OC because I was forced to take other companions. On topic - playing a ranger now - so far so good. Took Sagani in a previous playthrough too - she was great.
  19. ^yes, normal. Maybe some dialogue was added/changed after the VO work was done or maybe they just chose some lines over others for reasons known only to them. Edit: Oh, and I've started getting the 'beginning of line unvoiced, then it cuts in' bug too - 1.06 on GOG, Win7. Not always, just sometimes. Since Gilded Vale.
  20. ^Does he already have an item increasing those stats? (e.g. minor cloak of protection) Multiple items with the same increases don't stack - Check the character record sheet and see if the info is greyed out there and 'suppressed' written in brackets. Might explain why it ups 2 of the 3 stats on your PC (maybe they've already got a ring of reflex or something)
  21. I typicaly need to wait a few minutes to start a new game. Save games (in the same gaeming session) usually takes between 1-3 minutes to load. I do use Steam And i have steam could enabled. Just tried opening the game and waiting 5 minutes. Nothing happens The continue and load options are still greyed out. 10 minutes later: Stil nothing, and no options to load anything. Making it impossible to pick up from where I left the games last time. Close the game - then wait 5 minutes - then reopen.
  22. The option of female forms was brought up earlier in development - but it would have added to the budget (not just making, but testing and animating - change the mesh and the armatures + weight-mapping need adjusting too). Would be nice to see in the future - perhaps in PoE2 or through mods. My biggest gripe with the spiritshifting is that it's static - overpowered early and underpowered later - needs to develop with the character through all the levels.
  23. Something in-between. Not so sure we need a separate 'crafting skill' But the current crafting feels a bit 'cheap'. I'd prefer to have crafting limited to specific locations (forge, lab, hearth, etc) as per the original idea (thus making stronghold upgrades there useful). And the need to find the recipes. I'd also like 'Legendary recipes' that could be crafted only once (due to availability of ingredients) a la crom-feyr, but able to be applied to your favourite base-weapon. Needing a special NPC to craft such would be fine too.
  24. For reference, here's my dxdiag.txt If I wait 3 or 4 minutes after booting up the PC (not opening Pillars) and then start the game - the options to load and continue are available. If I open pillars straight after booting up, they're greyed out. Not a big problem for me, now that I know how it works - before I was looking all over for a solution that involved copying and pasting the saved games back and forth - turns out this was just using up the right amount of time. If I quit and restart - it's ok. If I shut-down the computer and reboot - same issue with greyness until I wait. DxDiag.txt
  25. I could've sworn itumaak had it in my playthrough with Sagani ... but I'm not 100% sure. Either way it's a bit of an oversight - especially as the wolf is billed as a scout. Obs: Can we look into getting detection circles for the AC?
