Firedorn returns
"Call a spade a spade," eh? You know, the funny thing about that phrase is that spade is actually an archaic slur for a black person. 'archaic' by whose measurement of time? "Call a spade a spade" is a very old saying that far predates any racial slurs - the phrase may have become unpopular in America due to the later use of 'spade' as a racial slur - the rest of the world uses it to mean what it means Maybe on average, in the USA say, - come visit China sometime - white guys get lots of racial abuse here As for only noticing privilege when you don't have it - try empathizing sometime, you can notice a lot of things that you might otherwise miss. As an example - pretty much that phrase but the opposite way round

Idiot's Guide to RTwP?
First up - use the auto-pause settings (enemy sighted, skill-use complete (not sure of the name) character death etc) - this way it'll auto-pause when something happens that needs more input. Second - have one thumb over space-bar (pause) at all times to pause if things go south. [it's more 'pause with real-time' for me rather than 'real-time with pause' ] It's not all that far removed from TB - it's just that actions get resolved concurrently, so pausing a bit more often (especially when you're getting used to it) and assessing the battlefield is a good tip.

Update 2.01 is Now Live
They are supposed to be working on that - same for patches altho they already have a download page for DVD patches but it only has 1.06 atm. OK, is there any way as a DVD backer to switch to a GoG download? I thought the DVD backer tiers got a digital copy anyway? (Or did you give that to someone else?)

Update 2.01 is Now Live
It's an 80 mile round trip to the nearest free wifi - and the options there aren't "fast". There's one 'net cafe - but it's a hang-out for "the wrong element", and while you don't take your life in your hands in his shop, you MIGHT take your laptop's life in those hands. I have a laptop, fairly new though not "hefty" enough to run games; tried to download ME 3 one day at the dentist's office, we were there a couple of hours, and of 3 gig or so, it had actually downloaded about 500 mb. Really slow, and most of what's available (like at the bank, the car dealership) is just like that, and from the same provider (pretty much only one of them). My wild blue is a LOT faster than that. We used to take the trailer and go various places, RV parks have GREAT wifi generally, not to mention I could set it up to dl overnight, on someone ELSE'S bandwidth. But husband's really not safe driving any more, and since he's really weird about ME doing the driving with the trailer (regardless that I'm better at it than he ever was!) I don't really have that option either. However, just this morning, I discovered that I do have an option I wasn't aware of. I called wild blue about something else, and while talking to the tech, he "reminded" me (when I was complaining a bit about limited bw) that I'd never used my "reset".... Didn't know anything about it, apparently they "forgot" to tell me.... If I go over 80% of the allowable, I call them and they reset my limit to zero. Which I can do twice a year.... Would have been REALLY nice if they'd told me! Another option is if you have/make a friend elsewhere who has a high DL speed - get them to DL something for you and put it on a USB in the post (you could post them one in advance). (Not sure if that could work with Steam patches though - gog is simpler that way )

Update 2.01 is Now Live
What I mean are updates for those that are using the DVD versions of the game The updates are attained through our website here. Once the 2.01 update is finished it will be placed in this location. Well, I tried to use the dvd version I bought from amazon, and had to install and patch through steam anyway - VERY annoying. So now I'm micromanaging bandwidth. Boxed versions and patches on physical media made my online life so much simpler.... but thanks for the answer. The retail DVD was only a Steam installer (not something I would have done but I guess Obs/Paradox had their reasons) - the DVD patches on site are for the kickstarter DVD backers who got the full base-game on DVD. So yeah, you're stuck with Steam

Update 100: The White March - Part I
No - you should have a 'Pre-End-Game' auto-save, right before the point of no return. (Some people have lost theirs though - dunno if it's a bug or a careless delete) (Also Trial of Iron players won't have theirs - but TOI is a 'no going back' mode anyway - can use the console to teleport if you feel that's unfair).

Possible to have wizard have access to all known spells all the time?
Silent Winter replied to johncpatterson's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I don't know about any coding - but why is it so bad to just have 3 grimoires and switch mid-battle? It's slower, but if you really need that spell, it's worth it.

Update 100: The White March - Part I
I spent several hours this afternoon just clearing a single map which included several unique items. added into the original game area? (Or do you mean an expansion area?). Any new content beyond items in the original areas? (conversations / NPCs / quests (whether related to White March or not) / etc?)

White March: Pre order item and Pet?
^Obsidian decided to give the pre-order bonus from the main game to all those who buy the expansion - so yeah, they're yours now http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/81270-space-pig-as-thanks/ As to how to get them - if you mean in-game, then they're in your inventory at the start. If you mean to download - I dunno - on gog they're a separate dlc-installer. Not sure about Steam.

A comment about (developer) comments
Silent Winter replied to Madscientist's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)If you've got the fast-mode active (like you just ran across a map and now entered a new one) it gives the comments too little time to finish - weird but true. Make sure you are at normal speed before entering any new area and wait til the commentary finishes.

Why is this game so hard?
Come back later - if you're doing the quest for the dozens, you can get there at a relatively early time - what level are your characters? It's possible in PoE, as it was in BG, to find higher level encounters/quests than you're ready for - no shame in doing some other side-quests to level up first.

Inventory Suggestions - Sell all button & Inventory Limits
^On the one hand, that would end up being more clicks than currently - On the other hand, you could do it as you go in smaller bursts (assuming you could do it in the looting interface. If not, you'd be clicking through the stash sections to find what you just picked up to flag it.) lasso-select or shift-select would be better. (I meant shift above rather than ctrl - fits Windows conventions better)
-
Inventory Suggestions - Sell all button & Inventory Limits
I'm not a fan of the stash being infinite but it's not a big deal. However, given the sheer number of shields and spears you pick up - having a 'sell-all' button (or better, a select, ctrl-select to choose a group to sell) would save not only my left-mouse button, but also save me from repetitive strain injury on my clicky-finger

lvl 13 Door/spirits actually bugged
Silent Winter replied to Huzzinda's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)Did you try to open the door BEFORE talking to the spirits - that's a pre-requisite to getting the password (and also talking to the other spirit to know how to use it).

Expansion characters to original game?
Silent Winter replied to ArtrusKhet's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)They've said the the new companions can be taken into the main game and will have interactions with the base-game characters and quests. How much is unknown at this point (except to the devs, I guess).

PoE expansion: The White March part 1
I doubt they'll be adding content after the final battle - this is TOTSC style side-content - just split in two. They'll probably get you as far as the forge / other significant area, then simply bar access (like between Acts 2 and 3 in the main-game - some (un/)natural barrier that prevents further progress.) Meaning you'll be able to use that 'point of no return' save again to come back and finish the expansion later...then beat the final endgame again again.

Why not random wilderness area encounters?
Those mentioning XP for random encounters might be forgetting the limited combat xp - bestiary xp isn't gained after a certain point. (and no xp for human/orlan/etc adversaries) Random encounters might help fill the bestiary faster, but wouldn't affect the xp-balance overall. I wouldn't mind having some random encounters when travelling between areas (a la BG and fallout) - if it's not just battles but also other encounters as mentioned above.

Silent Winter replied to Forlani101's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)^THere's another labrador (yellow lab I think) available in one of the shops - sorry, can't remember which one. No idea on the Terrier though, haven't seen it. Spider's missing too.

Setting traps seems like a waste of time; am I doing something wrong?
Silent Winter replied to xzar_monty's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)He meant guiding the party round enemy traps that you've discovered (marked in red). Party traps are now marked in green and don't trigger for friendlies. I'd like multiple traps. 1 is an odd limit. But intelligent enemies should also have a chance to disarm your traps if they discover them. That might make for some complicated AI (disarming time while getting attacked v. taking the hit and attacking - holding back other, non-disarming, enemies v. them running over trap to attack you.)

My Ultra-Conservative/Reactionary Wishlist for the Expansion
not impossible - just a pita. You had a few seconds of coming out of stealth to disarm, retreat, and re-stealth. I just used the lower-level invisibility spell on my scout (disarming traps doesn't dispel invisibility). I agree for PoE, disarming traps shouldn't (and doesn't) take you out of stealth-mode.
