  1. On my Best Game list, stuff like Xenoblade Chronicles X, Splatoon, Tales from the Borderlands, Episodes 1-4 of Life is Strange and Pillars of Eternity would have some prominent places. But for now, I'd like to introduce Best Game You May Not Have Heard From As Much, But That I Greatly Enjoyed And I'm going to give this most prestigious of gaming awards to not one, but two games. 80 Days, after the well-known Jules Vernes novel. You play as Passepartout, the recently hired valet of Phileas Fogg and your master has just made a bet that he can travel around in the world in just 80 days. So get to it. It's a very story-driven game about catching the next ride to your next destination with a steampunk coat of paint. It's also very relaxed when you're just starting out and incredibly nerve-wracking when it's already Day 50 and you've only just reached the Americas. Renowned Explorers: International Society, a pleasant, cartoony 'roguelite' about looting priceless artifacts. Put together your little team of people, each with different abilities and personalities, and go explore semi-random maps in search of fame, money and treasure. Battles don't just consist of beating people up, but also of insulting your enemies so much that they break down crying or impressing them with how awesome you are. Between every expedition there's a little preparation phase which allows you spend all the science, gold and status you collected during your travels to be able to better face whatever comes next, which is a nice breather and a very tangible way of seeing how well or badly you did on your last expedition.
  2. You are not in the majority with that assessment. The people in Sensuki's corner, for example, complain that by simply abusing rest spam and finding a few basic combo's, combat in PoE is repetitive; essentially claiming that the path to victory is redundant and easy to execute but unfulfilling. And then there's what you said... Hey, if Story Time removes magical friendly fire, a lot of spells suddenly work quite differently. Fireballs for everyone! (Instead of the magic missile-equivalents that are much safer to spam.)
  3. Soulless babies are quite dark enough already for my tastes.
  4. I'm afraid I can't agree. Durance mostly just stands there hurling insults and yelling at people that they deserve to be burned alive. This doesn't make him or the rest of the party any more interesting. Personally, I think Aloth or Pallegina work better as foils for the rest of the party since they can disagree/be exasperated with the rest of the group and offer their different perspectives without being foaming-at-the-mouth crazy about it.
  5. I thought there was no way I would ever consider not buying a new Vampire game. I was wrong.
  6. Personally, now that Vampire (and Werewolf) is away from CCP, I think I can allow myself a single day of wild, hopeful optimism. I'll temper my expectations tomorrow. Today the world is bright and full of life dead and out for my blood.
  7. I disliked Durance the most. Just not a very big fan of insane street preachers that keep ranting at me. I didn't particularly care for the Grieving Mother, either. In theory she has a pretty interesting back story, but the way it was delivered just did not work for me.
  8. I think you mean this blog post. Then again, maybe not. He doesn't mention people demanding it be changed. He does mention the team worrying about what to do about such sensitive issues because they themselves also felt uncomfortable about it. An interesting piece either way.
  9. If only #GamerGate had some sort of Twitter presence. Imagine the things they might be able to accomplish.
  10. Source? http://blogjob.com/oneangrygamer/2015/03/divinity-original-sin-dev-talks-boob-plates-sexism-and-moral-outrage/ Ah, what a credible source. Especially since I missed the Original Sin Kickstarter because, by that point, I was so tired of arguing feminism in general and boobplate in particular over their official forums that I left it in disgust and avoided all things Larian for a while. And yet this article claims the vocal minority didn't speak up until the Kickstarter started? Larian must not keep a very close eye on their official forum, then.
  11. While tranny is generally, but not always, used as a slur misgendering someone (especially since from their point of view they are not misgendering someone but correctly identifying their gender) is not a hateful bigoted act. Not everyone agrees with transpeople about what gender they are. Many feel they are in fact their biological sex and not the one they transitioned to. This is not intolerant or hateful. People will often extend the courtesy of referring to a transexual as the gender they would prefer even if they do not agree that they are their transitioned sex, but it is a courtesy. They are under no obligation to alter how they feel about it and they are not being insulting if they choose not to extend that courtesy. A transexual person if free to take offense if this happens, and many will, but they have no reasonable expectation to be able to dictate another person's opinion on this matter. Being offended is not some trump card that means you get to win an argument or force someone else to change what they believe. The only people allowed to decide what gender they are are those people themselves. Anyone else's opinion what it ought to be does not enter into it.
  12. I think you forgot Larian and inExile.... ;-) Larian? Haven't you heard, they caved to SJW censorship too. The early concept art for the two Original Sin main characters had him in sensible armour and her in cleavage-y boobplate. When people complained about this, the art was changed so that both characters wore sensible armour. Or as sensible as armour ever gets in Larian games. All those spikes, man.
  13. Just the one, as far as I can tell. But you have the know the secret SJW handshake. That, or have a convincing enough argument on why the dialogue ought to be changed.
  14. As someone who really likes satire, I must admit that I disagree. Not that I mind the occasional bout of silliness, but we would live in a very sorry world indeed if humour is never meant to be taken seriously. At the very least, we'll always need a court jester to point and laugh at all of the King's flaws without his head getting chopped off.
  15. See, if you agree with someone on one thing you must, therefore, agree with them on everything. That's just how things work, apparently.
  16. Wrong: Feminist Frequency member called for such a boycott. But hey... have fun we now life in a world in which people can censor and mute other people through twitter because they do not like things. And you know what. It is really funny that a pizzeria in Indiana who got threaten by these people know has raised almost 1 million to support them. Talk about backlash. If it's true that "we now live in a world in which people can censor and mute other people through twitter" then how is... this... still a thing? Surely the dreaded SJWs would've silenced the whole lot of you by now through their nefarious machinations/prodigious Twitter use.
  17. Oh no! It's Obsidian! They were the SJWs all along. Actually, after New Vegas, this doesn't really surprise me. Unfortunately, this does mean Obsidian's reputation for buggy releases get reinforced when their QA department didn't even catch a bit of text.
  18. I find this isn't a problem outside modern bioware games. That the dialogue choices are only loosely related to the actual dialogue is asinine. Most games, what you pick is what you say, the only way to really get it wrong is to rush and not read it. Some games allow you to be sarcastic, which is great because I enjoy being sarcastic. The bad part is that sarcasm depends heavily on tone. So without some kind of indicator it's sometimes hard to tell whether any given response is supposed to be sarcastic or sincere. Something like "Great, let's go" can take on a number of different meanings, all of them depending on tone and none of them obvious just by reading the words. This is also why sarcasm on the internet can be such a tricky business sometimes.
  19. Once I get the Stronghold I will upgrade everything I can. If upgrades require both money and time, I'll just faff about uselessly to pass the minutes. I will only stop upgrading the Stronghold once the money runs out. At that point, I will continue playing to the game until I have enough money to continue upgrading. If, later in the game, I run into an architect or something who can overhaul/upgrade the looks and/or functions of the Stronghold the whole process will start over again.
  20. I don't know if I would back again. Of course, I'm not going to back PoE 2 before PoE 1 is even out. But assuming Pillars of Eternity comes out and is amazing... I still don't know if I'd back 2 on Kickstarter. I probably would, but perhaps not as enthusiastically. However, if the Kickstarter wasn't for Pillars 2 but was instead for something that's not generic fantasy (or zombies) I'd happily throw money at it. I have a rather troubled relationship with fantasy right now. On the one hand, I do love it, but on the other hand I'm also kind of over elves and dwarves (and zombies).
  21. Also, if there are no gods, where do Godlike come from? Actually, that could probably be explained by some kind of mix-up of souls or something.
  22. Don't know the name yet (because I suck at coming up with names), but she's going to be a Nature Godlike Druid from Ixamitl. As for her background, I'm debating between Aristocrat and Drifter. The idea being that she was born into nobility, but as a nature Godlike the cold stone of the mansions and cultured artificiality of high society became ever more unbearable and so, in the end, she left all that behind and hit the (dirt) road. Leaning towards Aristocrat, but I still got a week to think it over.
  23. I think I'll divide my funds between function, security and prettifying the place. I don't think I'll spend too much time on prestige specifically. Though I don't doubt that things that'll make my Stronghold prettier and more useful will also make it more prestigious.
  24. That design decision was why I decided not to play a ranger. That sounded like a huge weakness and it seems like it is. They dropped this mechanic because it was terrible. That's good to know. Still gonna roll a Druid for my first playthrough, though.
