Linear, but the combat is good. They have ok stories. You build your party, and go. No, companions like the other I.E. games. I think 1 is all around the better of the two, but I love 2 for its use of a rendition of 3rd edition. It makes 2 stand out a bit. If you've never played them then I think they are worth it. Just don't expect Baldur's Gate.

A range oriented Barbarian sublcass is something I'm hoping for. Whether Serefen is one or not, I'm unsure. It would be cool. I hope some of the subclasses fill gaps in the core classes to let them excel in another avenue of combat that was very inefficient in PoE. E.G. Ranged Barbarian, non-tank Chanter, battle priest, etc.

I periodically play FTL. As a derivative of the Roguelike Genre it is just a perfect filler type of game. Are you bored and nothing looks too appetizing to your current gaming cravings? Boom! FTL gets booted. It is a great little gem, and a great example of crowdfunding being a boon to the gaming world.

Easy-to-implement ideas
Ganrich replied to Piero's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
More Wizard Blast style Talents would be easy to Implement. O_o -
Seeing that those are in-game screens they could just as easily be the player character built by the player making those screens. Companion-wise I think two Godlikes is enough, and possibly too much. They are supposed to be exceedingly rare. I need people to wear the helmets I find if I play a Godlike. 2/7 companions already can't wear them, and 3/8 might push that too far. If we see an 8th I hope it's a Dwarf or a Pale Elf.

Agreed on the Druid/Chanter idea. The guy looks like he is potentially some kind of elder. Both classes would fit that archetype. Serefen sounds like a Multiclass, though. So, this Moon Godlike Amaua could be the same. Where Xoti and Eder can be either or (Priest/Monk or Fighter/Rogue respectively) it seems that he was a Barbarian whose Cipher talents showed themselves at a later date. So, I expect Serefen to be Multiclass. All that said, this Amaua Moon Godlike could go either way. He could be either or, or he could be a Multiclass. It makes me wonder if Chants work during Spiritshift? I'd assume they do.

Don't expect anything too extravagant. From what we've been told about them they aren't a huge change in design. The Black Jacket is a fighter, but he has lower accuracy. However he gains Weapon Quick Swap, and gains multiple proficiencies for different weapons. If he uses a weapon Vs an enemy that it is susceptible to like a blunt weapon Vs a Stone Beetle(iirc) then he gains damage and armor pen bonuses. The Ghost Heart Ranger summons a spirit animal that isn't susceptible to charm beast, but is very susceptible to attacks against spirits. However, since it is summoned it may have an easier time being dropped on the back line of enemies, but on the flip side it can't scout like a normal Ranger pet. These are just two that we know of. They arent too different, but different flavors of the same thing.

Subclasses are selected at chargen like subrace, I'd imagine. You select the class (wizard), and the menu opens up a selection spot where you can select from the 3 subclasses or the regular old Wizard. It's like PrC in Baldur's Gate 2. You aren't a Bard, but a Blade. You don't turn from a Bard into a Blade.

Although, I don't disagree. During's Tower is worth it to me. It's a great dungeon.

The Rogue Wish Poll
Ganrich replied to Elric Galad's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Beat me to it. Also, those weapons were given to people that didn't have the time to invest to learn archery which takes a considerable amount of time investment. Guns and xbows can be fired by anyone, and fit the rogue Vs a fighter or ranger who are weapon specialists by nature. -
I wonder if the Cain/Boyarsky project is ready for more people on the team? Haven't they been working on that for almost a year? Or is my memory being generous?

That's neat. It's like a side-quest of large proportion. But ultimately the concerns of the main plot draw your attention away. Finally when you have saved the world once again yadda yadda, you will have freed yourself up to pursue that oh so noble task that you promised yourself you'd finish. Sort of. I'll give a better example. Pretend the WM expansions don't exist, and we will use PoE as an example. I don't think I need to go through the story for the main campaign's plot points. I don't want to type it, and there may be people that haven't played the game... So, I won't. Let's say part one of the expac would occur mid-campaign, but isn't a decent sized set of areas in another part of the world. It's a few new areas scattered around the Dyrwood, and they indicate something nefarious involving the Engwithan ruins beyond what is spelled out in the first game. Other people have been there recently, the machines have another use, etc. That leads to a few situations with the Glanfathans, and some dungeons, etc. This quest chain leads back into the main campaign, and when you defeat the final boss (I won't name him), and make that decision you then are lead toward the conclusion of finding who else was fiddling with the ruins for part 2 of the expac. Perhaps that decision at the end causes the other party that's been messing in the ruins to make a move as it foiled their plans. There are a few ways to go about it. In PoE that could have fed back into Twin Elms and made it more robust. Thus fleshing out the core game while adding end game content. It would have allowed them to populated Twin Elms in the core game a bit more, added areas, and turned it into a better second city than they had. This is just as an example. Another example, but crossing into sequels is that if in BG: TotSC you ran across rumors involving Irenicus, and it gave an indication of things to come. Perhaps leading you south toward Cloud Peaks, and close to Amn. Of course, Amn takes place in a sequel, and is better for it, but it's a good example of using the mid-game expac to hint at things to come.

Hmmm... I backed the Item Creation tier. I may just see about making it relevant to and seeing about placing it on this island if they allow me to. Thanks Aarik! If anyone backed a pirate crew, or whatever else is relevant and wants to tie it to the island. Let me know and perhaps a collaboration is in order. If I had the money available to back the pirate crew I probably would, but I won't by the time the campaign ends unfortunately.

Skills are being overhauled. Josh has said there will be more skills. Classes will still get access to an equal number of skill points. I agree on Might Wizards busting down doors. It's odd. I think Josh has also said that the Perception attribute will now be used to spot traps, and mechanics will be to disarm them. It won't require being in Sneak mode either, iirc. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. They have streamlined the system they make Scripted Interactions with, and from what has been said, they plan to do more.

@Gromnir - So, a Pale Elf, which aren't nomadic, are a rarity in the region, and could give some neat introspective on the sub race isn't spicy to you? I agree that the character is more important than their skin, but that skin can lead to interesting character points with the appropriate backstory, objectives, etc. Just as good (if not better) then a more regionally fitting race. PoE + both TWM had two Amauas, and we have one in this game. We have had, and will have, the Amaua perspective covered pretty well. I expect the unknown current companion is probably a Dwarf. Human could be pretty bland (but character is everything) so I don't see much point there. Heck, I could see another Orlan for interesting Orlan banter when they are together. The Pale Elf would be fitting based on what we have so far in Deadfire and what we had in the previous game.

It's a little weird that they put all three of those into one goal, when any one of them would probably have produced quite a bit of hype from the community. Not that I am complaining. Yup, I noticed that too. I really think they were noticing the humdrum reactions to the past few stretch goals, and changed this one to me more content driven with another sublcass and extra levels. The orchestra is icing on the cake. If I were them, I would have had another simple stretch goal plus localization for $2.8m, and gone ahead and posted this update for $3m. We will be at 2.8 in no time, I think. Also, with the weekend here, they could rest easy. I'm sure they have more info that I do, and they know what they are doing. Either way, it's a great stretch goal. I'm really excited for the 3rd subclass and Orchestra, and a level 20 cap is definitely cool. They already know that the campaign will probably reach 3.5-4m in the end (esp. if the Investors really are at 2m), so where they place the goals from that range is just a formality (chances are that those 3 things will cost them more than $200k). I guess they wanted to make us happy and break the mid-campaign lull It's best to never assume anything is a sure thing. We will reach around $3.3m when the rest of the investors come into the total, but you don't want to dump all your goodies this early. Once the investors are approved its new backers and add-ons that will carry the campaign, and they will need more enticing to dump money toward the end with the investors all added in. So, I'm optimistic that you are right, but I wouldn't throw caution to the wind either.
