Gears of War PC is definently worth getting. Its a great shooter with insanely pretty graphics thats also blazingly fast, a computer that can run Crysis ok at medium will be able to run GoW at full settings and get like 60-80FPS easy. You wont see the stuff GoW can do in any other U3 game(like bioshock) since much of the graphic goodies in U3 are part of the GoW IP. Its supposedly really fun to run in the harder modes too, although Im too lame for that.

The only bad thing is that the gun sounds are old-school programmed, meaning that when you shoot autofire the sound lags and jumps. But it is an awesome game, it's a shame they thought they could milk their IP by naming it CoD4. I have alot of friends who just went "phh, another boring CoD game", but its really sweet. It's one of the golden 3 most-have games for the PC this year Gears of War, Crysis and CoD4. best gaming christmas EVER. I cant think of a time in history when so many* awesome games have been released at the same time. *counting console games aswell

But poetic justice nailed their balls against the wall when they got their fancy schmancy outsourced art and none of it turned out to be useable and they had to hire proper Swede artists to fix it. *I did write their name here but since google knows what i say here, I cant post it for fear of retribution. but they did make crappygame whose title rhymes with "Rust Pause"

@Bok: Post 'em biatch!!!!! It's not hacked shaders really, it's an autoexec file that lets me customize my settings to a very high degree. So i remove gay stuff(like motionblur) and push up the sweet stuff like the semitransparent-foliage shader.

I dont like them because it means all my friends spy-google on me in case I badmouth them on internet forums I cant do anything on the internet these days, you search my real name(rare swedish name)and you'll find photos of every dumb thing Ive done in the last 10 years.

R6 Vegas is much more actionlike with the cover system and everything. I loved it all the way until it became so repetitive that I couldnt stand it despite the excellent firefights. It felt alot like the designers had simply put a few random enemies into the maps and said "Yup, I figure this is all we need". You need scripted events and fun stuff happening to maintain the excitement. I hope they have learned their lesson with the sequel But the gun control and sound effects are the best in the bussiness. Theyve always put a ton of effort into getting the guns to feel and sound right in the R6 and GR games, and R6V is top dog. The sound designers at Ubisoft should get a medal.

I just jumped a car over a barricade and into a guard tower, tearing it down and causing massive mayhem. I love this game! There is just so much potential fun everywhere :D

Play time is extremely dependand on the actions of the player. For instance, in one case where you have to take down a radar jamming station; you can either spend 40 odd minutes sneaking into the base and disabling it OR if you happened to grab an extra Anti-tank missile you can take it out instantly from 800m away. The game is filled with stuff like that, you play the way that suits you best. A friend of mine really abused the hell out of it and beat it in about 6hours. No regular human being would be able to do that though, so dont go about saying its a 6 hour game.

It's way cooler in Crysis where you can pickup anything from beer bottles to container or people and hurl them at the enemy or just for fun. But that doesnt mean I like half the game to be about throwing things or putting things on top of other things. ..and the portal gun is not a gun, its a teleportation device

Also, the gravity gun is not the least bit interesting. Its just a compromise because it was too difficult to have the characters actually grip objects and toss them with their hands. It would be fine, except Valve seem to think its the shiznitz and thus forces you to use the damn thing all the time.

Guns are all the same because spacy-alien guns suck. I dont want a plegm-hurler or an acid-spitter or a friggin pseudopod. There is nothing as satisfying and appealing as a shotgun blast to the face or a large-bore sniper round through the chest, and that is one of the great truths of game design. Desintegrating your opponent itno molecules is NOT as satisfying as blowing him into burnt chunks with a good ol explosion.

One thing that this made me think about is the question wether the violence in media/entertainment/litterature and so reflects the ever hardening society we live in, or wether our society grows to adapt the violence in media/entertainment/litterature? (The answer is society influences art, and art returns a small amount back to society. But let's pretend we dont know that)

Our reaction here was much the same "How the hell could something like this happen in Finland?!" but the truth is that it can and will happen anywhere. School massacres are now a cultural phenomena of the western world, and no amount of legislation is going to stop it. Once the idea begins to circulate, the cat is out of the bag. Its copycat behaviour at work, and mentally ill people around the world has discovered a really neat method of venting their anger whilst becoming instant celebrities. In Sweden we havent had any mass killings yet, but people have been stabbed and shot in schools. Teenagers have been caught trying to sneak pipebombs into school buildings and so on. It's only a matter of time before someone steals their dads hunting rifle and uses it on his classmates. It's a shame that Auvinen suceedd in taking his life, though. Because every shooter caught alive is an essential clue into discovering the psychology behind this kind of behaviour. How we can detect and stop dangerous individuals before they snap.

The U3 engine was made by and for the PC, so it's hardly strange.

Did I say I was playing Gears of War for the PC ? It's an amazing game, fun to shoot and looks bloody amazing..also runs faaast. So go buy it.

Ay. I dont think any nation could have stood against a Blitzkrieg assault at that time, and its not fair to say the French were "surrender monkeys". The Allies got a slight taste of that during the Ardennes offensive, and that didnt go too well.
