Is it finally here? The death of the fantasy genre?
Kaftan Barlast replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Computer and Console
Magical Volo is always wrong without exception, thats his schtick. And this thread is about lazy developers/publishers trying to squeeze blood out of the stone that is the fantasy genre, whilst letting awesome genres go unnoticed. -
Excellent idea, Brother Jags. We did ponder aquiring some sort of macintosh-compatible virus to give the jerks a taste of their own medicine, but alas, we know not where to find such a wonderful thing.

I thought I made it quite clear that I am sick and tired of fantasy. I want the whole genre to just drop and disapear. Wether it's contemporary, sci-fi, postapocalyptic or whatever that replaces is doesnt matter. I just want change. p.s more superhero games would be sweet too -
Can you spot my weird files?

Yes, because if it wasnt.. it would be.. mm fact? news? That is ok but nothing compares to storming the castle to reach the mighty dragon. Nah, Id rather storm up the loading ramp of my favorite spaceship * * notice the remarkable lack of sexual innuendo -

One principle in D&D is that every spell has one or more spells that can counter it so our murderer woud have been revealed sooner or later. And the rules say that Clerics get their spells as long as they fulfill all the alignment thingies and so, there is no way a god can just say "no". That would be lika a pistol that refuses to be loaded. The thing I dislike that alot of great developers waste time with fantasy drivel when they could be making awesome games. Fortunantly, the trend appears to be over now. -

Yeah, but he wasnt a spellcaster. Besides, then the cleric could just have cast that thying that makes you see which spells people are using. -

I think magic is a great destroyer of both logic and plot, here's my fav example of how a "whodunnit" adventure can go wrong in D&D GUARD: Alarm! Alarm! The mayor has been murdered! ADVENTURER: What, again?! CLERIC: Dont worry, I got this. *casts raise dead* MAYOR: Ouch, was I murdered again? ADVENTURER: Yup. Who killed you? MAYOR: This time he wore a mask Im afraid. CLERIC: It's cool, just gather everyone in the town square and Ill cast detect evil. 2 HOURS LATER CLERIC: Let's se *casts detect evil* ..mm, him and him and that owlbear over there. HIM, HIM & OWLBEAR: Bugger! GUARD: Alright, which one of you murdered the mayor? HIM, HIM & OWLBEAR: Not me! CLERIC: *casts spell* The one in the middle is lying. HIM: Fine, I give up. I did it! There, everyone satisfied? MAYOR: Right! Chop his head off! HIM: It's a fair cop. 5 ROUNDS LATER GUARD: Im afraid thats not possible, he has a ring that makes him immune to critical hits. MAYOR: Well, cant you take it off? GUARD: No, Im a fighter and we dont get Sleight of hand as a class skill. HIM: Cant you just put me in jail? MAYOR: No, youll just escape and murder me again ADVENTURER: Well, I have this helmet that makes you change alignment to Lawful Good. We could make him wear it? MAYOR: Excellent! HIM: Oh, poop. I'll never be able to take blackguard as a PC now. -
My gamertag is The Kaft but I havent got any multiplayer games yet

From the way it looks it should run fine, but are you saying it suffers from the usual NWN performance-hoggery, brother jags? Because that reform would have to be so radical that nothing of the original material would be left. And also because I dislike almost everything about fantasy, from the idea of magic to the childish banality that runs through every aspect of it. Fantasy is very much fairy-stories for immature grownups, and as such it can never ever attain any real depth. -
I saw a freshman with a mactop before christmas. How stupid can you get? They KNOW that our primary tool is 3DsMAX, which does not work on macOS even with bootcamp. Not only that, but a macintosh user in a team project is a liability for everyone invovled since there will be problems with everything from networking to file format issues.

That could have something to do with my problems, as I have a widescreen laptop

Ill have to try the witcher someday to see whos right, but what Ive seen of it yet doesnt exactly fill me with hope. And I get a little ticked-off that it got more votes than Mass Effect for RPG of the year at gamespot I think the whole new age shaman-spirit crap is even worse than orcs&goblins. It reminds me of people who believe in the healing power of crystals, have posters of airbrushed indians, and listen to enya and world music all day. -

Let's not confuse the genre fantasy with the word fantasy, people. For the purpouse of this thread; fantasy = elves & dragons. As far as fantasy RPG's go, I havent seen any new elements in years. It -
As I get further into Mass Effect, a hope has begun to grow inside me that this excellent game will signify the beginning of the end of this horribly outmilked genre known as fantasy. Every fantasy game under development has been released by now, and I hope no one is thinking about making another one. Sure, there is still WoW but that game could be set anywhere(I mean, a crackhead doesnt care if his glass pipe is blue or red) I have played alot of fantasy games but as Im on chapter II of MotB* I realise that enough is finally enough. Magic swords and mystic spirits just bore me to so much that i wish I didnt have to play a fantasy game ever again. Just take all your poncy elfs, magic dragons, clich

It's that special NWN2 engine magic.. it SHOULD run fine, but it doesnt

That was a special shader they wrote specifcily for that sequence in Ep2, there was nothing similar up to that point. And as far as I know, it doesnt support specular maps for normal mesh objects such as characters or buildings. That's limited ability. this screenshot http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/1681/sc...ot178345cn2.jpg is more representative of Source's characteristic matte/flat look.
-
Source also have very limited capability to display specularity, which makes shaders and textures look dull and flat.

I wonder who was behind it, the islamists or musharraf? Pakistan will never dismount their nukes as long as India also has them, and if the US was to attempt to pressure Pakistan, things would go sour and the US would lose an important strategic partner in the region. But I dont think there is a country on earth that would use nuclear weapons under any circumstance. To do so is automatic suicide. Even crazy ol' Kim in North Korea knows and respects that.

Vital questions about Mass Effect
Kaftan Barlast replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Computer and Console
I now have a semi-serious problem; Im on the citadell after the prologue and I swicthed my two homies for the two new homies, but I cant switch back? Where is the team selection screen? Do I have to wait until I get access to the Ship, so I can switch back to my human squadmates? -
There are games with better gun feeling, like Crysis f.ex, but GoW is just such an awesomely gritty action experience. They're both by Kevin Lanning. And it looks alot like a "kit-bash" from GoW's Baird

given that i have a HDMI port aswellas as the regular one, could it be possible to run audio from the regular one and video from the HDMI?
-
Do any of you have any tips on how to solve the problem of connecting your 360 to a computer monitor and still get sound? I have a HDMI>DVI cable but no sound, I was foolish enough to think MS would put a standard headphone jack on their console, but theyre too cheap and evil.
