Is it finally here? The death of the fantasy genre?
Kaftan Barlast replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Computer and Console
While their fantasy-pst cant be denied, OE have only made one Fantasy game(nwn2) and as far as I know, there are no more in development. And Im happy if we dont see anymore of the genre, Im sick and tired of elves&dragons. -

I wish Fantasy would go away and stay away just like eurodisco or white loafers with tassels. -
Journalists and writers of comedy wanted!!

I have two recruits already, this is going quite well. Im currently planning a running Q&A with Dr. Bedford and Mrs. Hearst on the topic of co-living and sexual habits. The theme is that bedford explains everything using psedusciene such as race biology, physiognomy etc. while Mrs. Hearst convinces the reader that touching yourself is a perverted and unnatural practice that will cause blindness and give your children polio. -
Ladies and gentlemen, I have recently begun work on a comedy website posing as the online version of a rare english magazine for "gentlemen of taste and refinement". The thought is to fill it with lots of misinformative, offensive and fun articles about everything between heaven and earth. Travel accounts, interviews, opinion pieces, anything you want. The incomplete website can be found at http://www.krotma.com Now, Im looking for people who want to contribute to my website as writers and "journalists"! No web-thingie skills required at all, posting an article is as easy as making a post here. You will have to make up one or more fake personas with full names though, as this is a magazine for educated gentlemen. You should also come up with a nice photograph, but we have plenty in stock if you are not inclined to aquire one by yourself. Good luck and godspeed, Phineas H. Merriweather, Editor

It varies with each distribution, but overall it's much faster and much more stable than any windows iteration. There's also the wide possibilities to customize the OS to, as an example, handle memory in a way that makes a certain kind of application run faster. Linux is the ideal OS for a graphics workstation, I know ILM have switched to only using linux workstations that are tailor-made to run their proprietary software packages on.

MotB doesnt seem to be dumb-proof, I played the game all proper but i did not get enough poeces of the mask or this one-of-many bloke youre talking aboot. Well ok, I did rush somewhat because NWN's combat is boring and tedious. But everyone warned me not to eat Myrkul because then hed live and stuff I did devour myrkul at first but I wanted the bastard to die, so I reloaded and eternalrested him. Can you smash the wall of doom or whatever or is that jus a red herring?
-
Of course. You can also devour the curse completely and use it to become more powerful than the god. Realli? How?
-
So I finished it. Played the ending where you throw Akachi back to Rashemen and go on to live your life etc. and the one where you become Kelemvors biatch. Wasnt there supposed to be a third ending? Can you end the spirit-moochers curse and win the day at the same time? ...and there was no slideshow thingie for Hagboy.

I think it's because Peter Parker is afraid to leave Mary Jane for Felicia Hardy, because of her fickle nature that led her to dump him back in the early 80's. If he could be sure that Felicia wouldnt just dump him again(which she wouldnt because she's matured alot since then), then I think he would go with her. It wouldnt be nice to MJ, but she can suit herself for being played by Kirsten Dunst in the movies. -
Im happy I read his books at such a young age that the whole pulp-fantasy crap didnt dilute the experience. But i think itll be atleast 30 years until people can enjoy Tolkiens books for what they are again, with movies and dozens of copycat wrotyers diluting the experience.

Actually, it's tea and a biscuit 1) My definition of Fantasy is more or less identical with that of the general public. Fantasy is a genre which combines three key elements a)magic b)a pseudo-medieval setting c)races like orcs, elfs and dwarfs. It's really that simple. Id say you who suffer from this strange all-encompassing view of the genre, are probably to close to it to have any kind of perspective on the matter. 2) Ive always felt that it's much more refreshing to base arguments on pure opinion unsupported by facts or anything similar. Bit in this matter Ive done my homework, Im ashamed to say. Ive played all the games, Ive seen the LotR movies, Ive actually touched a D&D sourcebook and Ive read a warhammer comic. All that has only served to strengthen my resolve and give support to my negative opinions about the F-word. I think you might be suffering from severe delusions, you should seek help. -
I liked JE alot more than Baldur's Gate 2, especially when you got to try and find a husband for the local triad she-boss ...and to have John Cleese do voice acting in a game?! Beyond awesome.

You people have to stop posting so much, I go away for a few hours and the thread has lept forward 10 posts. Volo, you're wrong as usual. Random evidence that fantasy is crap: ID Software made DooM, it was a good game with lots of shooting. Then they made a fantasy version called Hexxen, that was just the same except you shot lightning bolts with different kinds of rods, it sucked. Hard, cold evidence that Fantasy is completely (here should be the word i cannot write). The problem is that some people here seem to have a very, very, very broad definition of what classifies as Fantasy. So broad, in fact, that it could encompass any and all genres except perhaps documentaries... so yeah, I think you're right. -

You're dense too, since you assume magic will lead to more opportunities to create something intereseting and new. Magic can create situations that perhaps technology cant, like the classic love potions and whatnot, but it can also be a limiting factor. My classic example of how "raise dead" will ruin the possibility to make a "whodunnit" in D&D. It can slo create fun plotholes if youre not careful, like why they dont simple just take all the big eagles in LotR and drop the ring into mount doom, instead of going on a quest. I mean, they could easily kick the crap out of those lizard things which there are only nine of while the eagles are like 150 and gandolph could ride one and shoot fireballs at the witchking and all.. Also, magic is silly. ..and uou can create wonderful stories and gameplay and everything without magic aswell. p.s fantasy nerds are all poopie-heads. -

Kaftan Barlast replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Computer and Console
I'm not a big fan of fantasy. Anyone who's read a quarter of my posts relating to KOTOR will have seen at least one instance of me insulting it in some way for being too much high fantasy. However, you have to either be absolutely dense or intentionally trolling to try to make this argument. The Sci-Fi genre is heavily formalized and adheres strictly to a certain model of "storytelling" or whatever you might call it. You have a finite set of design/story patterns that you use over and over again with slight variation. Like for example the world is doomed to be destroyed by natural disaster, ancient beings/machines/artifacts come to wipe out man, or man's ambition for exploration/creation/acting god have threatened to destroy the universe/world/man. hurr hurr My argument, although not backed by evidence, is that Fantasy is the most formalised genre with the least amount of patterns. Kind of like how you dont have as much freedom if you write a Punkrock song, as you would if you wrote a Symphonic Rock song. You dont have the same amount of chords, you can only use 4/4 tempo, you cant have a flute player etc. because then it wouldnt sound like a punkrock song anymore, and thus wouldnt be a punkrock song. Does that make it clearer? Im saying that Fantasy hass a smaller amount of useable patters (we could call them schticks too) than other genres, and thus leaves less room to be creative and/or original -
Ive only had real experience with 720p as my neighbour has one, but there is a noticeable differance in resolution.
