I dont care when you call me "Swede" even though the word is "Svensk" in our language (note the intentionally bad argument. are we hijacking this thread yet?)

You have to be PC to be an Indian?

Are there any benefits to registering as an Indian? If you're a Sami in Sweden, you can get tax cuts if yer breeding reindeer

Yahtzee hates all games, thats his schtick. It would be no fun watching his review if he was nice

Free or nonexpensive 3D game engines?
Kaftan Barlast replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Developers' Corner
I think we're going with Truevision3D, it can do everything we've tried with it so far and it looks really good. It lacks a level editor though, so we're working on using 3Ds MAX as an editor and exporting through some sort of ASCII exporter. Inconvenient, but we dont have time to write an editor and apparently the one are available wont work with what we're trying to do. -
The Comic threads clone was in fact the true comic thread

So no one knows what's going to happen to Deadpool? -
I know you're only kidding, but keep in mind the fact that you have to carry the bastard around with you. I know i wouldn't carry any laptop bigger than 15" for work. With a laptop backpack, you can easily carry even a 19" gaming laptop. In fact, everyone should use backpack-cases no matter what laptop they use, if they want to keep their spine in working condition

I just finished the last part of X-men Messiah Complex and there's an ad-thingie in there about the new upcomming Cable series. This had me worried so I checked at marvel.com and not only is Cable getting his own mag, but C&D ceases with issue 50 now in february! What the feck is going to happen to Deadpool now?! Id like to see him in a sweet "odd couples" sitcom kind of thing with Mystique and the Runaways written by Brian K Vaughn, but I suppose thats not really going to happen

I enjoyed the diner part of Fahrenheit but from then on it was just a feast of "wank the keys" and "move the mouse in the right pattern".
-
No one has claimed or hinted otherwise? I just like to expect QD's next game to be as much of a bag of manure, as Fahrenheit was, because QD clarly have their priorities wrong.

It was a bit confusing not to even have a small recap. And I Agree about the retarded voicovers with Cortana and the evil person who I dont know what hes supposd to be. Its one thing to have people talk, it

The eye movement is made using an eyetracking device. Its like an expensive webcam. Nothing impressive there. I hope that they have gamplay this time, and not just that increadinly annoying "press the blue button when the blue dot apperas on the screen" dancemat play they had in Fahrenheit. It still pisses me off when I think about it.

No, that's just NWN2 for yeh. It's drinks fuel like a tank and performs like a lawnmower.

We just finished Halo3, it was meh. But, what do you do with gamescore points? I though you could use them to buy stuff on Live

DOnt you mean CoD4 > H3 ?

To me, he'll always be that really irritating "bad boy" from Ten Things I hate About You.

Me and my friend tried playing halo3 co-op today. It was my first experience with Halo3 and I cant say Im any more impressed than with the first game. Its an average shooter, nothing more and nothing less. It also has severe antialising issues in 720p, it looked like crap on the 42" plasma I also kept waiting for that thing in the beginning that was going to "kick my ass" that Ive read about. We played for three hours and it never came.

Free or nonexpensive 3D game engines?
Kaftan Barlast replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Developers' Corner
Im a bit out of my element in this, because Im an artist of the non-technical kind so I cant go into the specifics too much. But the game we're going to make is an action-avdenture platformer with a stylizd cartoony art design a little like psychonauts. I just got a message that we're also thinking about Truevision3D, and at first glance it sems like a top notch engine for the price. It depends upon skill, some people could, some couldn't. It may require alot of time and patience. What engine is it may I ask? It's under NDA so I cant tell you exactly, but I am allowed to say that it is one of the big ones. I imagine it would be heaven for us artists, but sheer torture for the programming team. -
Free or nonexpensive 3D game engines?

We've also been offered to use a commercial engine that's quite amazing, but they will not give us any direct support. Is it as stupid as it seems to try and use an engine with the in-house documentation only? This is coincidentally, one of those times I wished the gaming industry didnt have so many silly demands for secrecy. Else, I would be expressing emotions of joy and amazement at said offer right now. -
For those interested in next-generation AI in games...

A doctorate from my University will be there, I cant say I envy her. The tech part is ok, it's the academic drivel thats hard on the brain. We get the displeasure of having to read lots of academic papers related to gaming, and its no wonder the gaming industry isnt listening to these guys. We had a professor here(Craig Lindley) who wrote a paper that no human being can read. I spent 15min reading the first three sentences over and over again before I simply gave up. -
We've just started planning a new action-adventure game and we're in the proccess of trying to decide which engine to use. I was just wondering if theres anyone here who could recommend somthing that perhaps, we've overlooked. We cant afford to pay more than a couple of hundred dollars per license, though. Also, the game is very much commercial so the engine license will have to allow full commercial use. Thus far we have looked at Torque3D - Too many faults to count really. unuseable. Ogre - Just a graphics engine, requires a lot of work to be useful Nebula2 - DirectX only, lacks proper level editor, only works with Maya7 Source - Major licensing and legal issues Unity - Is MacOS only C4 - Seems very good, does all we need it to but we havent heard of anyone using it, and thus not the bad things If you've worked with any of the above id love to hear your opinion, but if you have other recommendations that would would be great.

GRAW on the other hand is endless fun when youve played for 45min just to come face to face with a tank, and you've spent your last AT4. Running out of ammo just plain sucks.
-
Really, what sort of things does it do -I have not seen anything so far-? It wreaks havoc with the file/sharing printer stuff in all verisons of WinXP. 90% of the times when someone at the University complains about not being able to access stuff on the network its because they're running Norton. The tech-support guys hate it.

I hav not played any R6 game wher you had unlimited ammo, and Im sure I didnt miss any of them. What are you talking about? Ok... fine, the pistol in Vegas has unlimited ammo, but since they screwed up the cyclic rate, its usless. And spaking of tactical games, is it just me that gets really annoyed when they screw up the rate of fire/cyclic rate of autofire guns in games? I played a bit of CoD4 and it really bugs me that the RoF is all over the place. Automatic fire goes like this "ratatatatatatatata" but in alot of games its all jerky like "rata..tat..ta..ta...tatat..ta". Ive always loved the R6 and GR games for getting the gun sounds perfect.
