Vapourware: Thy Name Is Dragon Age!
Kaftan Barlast replied to Volourn's topic in Computer and Console
Oh, come on. The Infinity engine had boring combat, JE made fighting fun, if a little bit too easy. The story and characters were just as good(or bad). -

If you claim that ME isnt the best game BioWare has ever made, you're either insane or you havent played it. -

Mass Effect owns all. -
The problem with politically correct euphemisms is that the new word will also become "offensive" with time and without fail. In Sweden, we change the word for Immigrant like every 5th year because the old word has gone into PI territory.

Alright, gentlemen, let's lock it down
Kaftan Barlast replied to Walsingham's topic in Skeeter's Junkyard
Terrace houses tend to have flimsy back doors, from what Ive seen. You should probably get some good solid doors for yer house and maybe some sweet swedish 4-glass windows, hard to break through and keeps the heating costs down. Alarm systems are kind of girlie, but a regular motions sensor in the hallway and another one towards the back of the house? -
Ill be doing you-know-what with my you-know-box tomorrow so I guess I wont ever be playing anything live with yuo guys until they fix "the thing". It's a bit sad, but on the other hand you people noy play when Im sleeping anyways. And Live sucks. So.. any recommendations on what to play now that my choices will be plentiful?

There is only one Cap and his name was Steve Rogers. I stopped reading cap after he died, and I wont be picking it up again anytime soon. Fortunantly, Steve is still alive and kicking in the Ultimates

Vapourware: Thy Name Is Dragon Age!
Kaftan Barlast replied to Volourn's topic in Computer and Console
It was another thing with DA, if i remember correctly then we got to see in-game screenshots way back in 2002. That suggests that the game itself is no more than 1-2years max away from release. But after that, everything DA just died out and BioWare came out with lots of other stuff like Jade Empire instead. That suggested that BW had dropped DA, and until recently there was no sign of them restarting it. -

Free or nonexpensive 3D game engines?
Kaftan Barlast replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Developers' Corner
That is more or less exactly what we are doing at this point. Im not especially thrilled about this system since we're working blind most of the time, but it works and thats great. Currently, Im working on visual design and leaving the tech stuff to the programmers. We wont be using the "big secret engine" for this project, but I have been talking to our producer about getting access to some of the source code to the render engine and shaders so that the programmers might be able to take some of that and incorporate it into our game. Being the artsy type, I dont even know if its possible to do that, but I imagine that it would atleast be a great learning experience for our programming team to be able to take a look at some AAA-class stuff -

The game Prelude to darkness that he mentions, was made by people from my University I remember playing an alpha back in 2005 -
The reason I started watching Yahtzee is that he used to be really dead-on about the flaws of games, and he was funny. Unfortunantly, it appears that he has less time playing the games lately so his latest reviews tend to only focus on the most superficial.

I use tank tactics with the Mako, I engange the enemy from extreme range with my main gun while keeping as much terrain between them and me as possible, jumping over rockets and crap. Its not the fun way to do it, but its the only effective way. You have to have really awesome aim to be able to hit things while moving, especially at close range. While there are games that do it better, ME does have good vehicle control when you compare it to other games. Its just the the fact that you cant aim the turret indpendantly of where you're going that ruins it. I tried strafing out Trasher Maws and stuff, but since forward is wherever the gun is pointing, the Mako ends upp all over the place.

Yeah, you should just be able to start the game at level 50. This "leveling up" **** is just a waste of time. When I pay good money for a game, I ought to be able to just go straight to the last level, none of this "play through the whole game" bull****. Shurt yer face, poo-head. I was talking about this annoying "collect all the tokens" thing that all console games have now. From cog tags in Gears of War to minerals/discs/medals/whatever in ME. It's boring. And if the game has cool stuff like extra equipment only accessible through grinding, thats even worse.
-
The fun thing is that you get no achievements for the gathering quests, and you can get all the other achievements without doing them. Sure, you get a small amount of Xp and some credits(atleast for the minerals) but the boredom isnt worth it. And achievements are kind of *** anyway, you cant do anything with them ...ok, well.. some of them unlock really sweet stuff like how making 1,000,000 credits gives you access to the Spectre weapons. Which is also *** since you shouldnt have to work to play. Ive paid good money for the a game, I dont want to have to play it a gazillion tims and find every hidden generic token in order to access all the features.
-
Going around gathering minerals and crap is unnescessary anyway, all you get is a "collection complete" in the journal and nothing else. I ended on level 49 on my first playthrough, I dont know exactly but it took atleast 70 hours. I hate replaying story-heavy games so I try to do EVERYTHING on the first run. Oh, and ME is the best RPG Ive ver played, and it places high on the shooter list aswell, the combat is much more fun than Halo3 for instance.

Uncharted: Drake's Whatever for teh PS3. I bet it's a decent game, but everything except Mass Effect feels like crap to me now ...also have Assassin's Creed but I think Ill play it on the 360 or the PC instead.

But yours truly making offensive jokes about said ghenocide would almost certainly lead to warnings
-
Well, let's not argue about whos ancestors massacred whos, it ruins all the fun and brings us warnings from above

So the Canadian people are in effect, paying some bum natives who were so fundamentally incompetent that they managed to lose an entire continent? We white men beat them fair and square, and now WE give THEM tax cuts? I dont know how you do it over there, but in Sweden, you dont get a medal if you finish last. We proudly ignore any and all pleas of our so called "natives"(which are really just some sort of disguised Finns), because when we marched up there with our guns and neat tricorn hats, they bugged out faster than anyone could say "ethnic cleansing". Even then, the small patch of land in the far north they left was pretty much crap anyway. All moss and rocks, not a white sand beach in sight. bah!
