  1. Agreed....the people already pointing this out are obviously big fans of the old games and usually not novice by any means.... Never mind the fact that it's not very intuitive....It never sounded like a good idea to me and pretty much goes against what people have come to expect. I mean if we we're trading one system with a steep learning curve with another.....not sure why we didn't stick as close to the first(DnD) as possible.
  2. This sums up my feelings quite nicely atm, especially the armor and percentage system part. Was it ever confirmed or announced that stealth is going to be group only? Or is it supposed to be single character stealth and that hasn't been implemented yet? As a sneaky type of scout rogue that actually is pretty important to me...I don't want my non stealthy party creeping behind me at a crawl with their search circles all over the place.
  3. I agree about the decimals and currency system...sticking with only coppers is fine I guess but certainly doesn't have a good look or feel for me. As far as the decimals go....just round please or better yet use whole numbers across the board. It is strange how you get %+ damage but something like DT is a non decimal number and weapon damage is as well. So are attributes the only place we get these decimals from?
  4. Oi, don't compare that piece of **** to Baldur's Gate. Baldur's Gate was pretty bad. Play BGT without any AI mods(which is a waste of time, tbh) and the difference in quality going from BG to BG2 is pretty startling. Nope
  5. The irony is that he always calls other people a troll....I see most of his post as more troll like than anything anyone else posts.
  6. I agree with the OP and actually made a post in another thread that said the same thing basically. As to the poster who said he literally rested after every fight in the IE games....why? you got beat down that bad? Also you realize you can do this in PE as well? If anything putting that little #2 beside camping supplies does nothing and just going back to town adds just another thing to do for people who want to play that way. In other words its on you if you do that and not the game as it doesn't force you do to so....also you were annoyed by your own actions....
  7. I'm not really a fan of the health/stamina system...not sure why just regular health/healing isn't good enough. I really wonder what the idea/hope was for that because it seems like a terribly unnecessary thing just to say "oh it's tied into the game world"....to that I say untie it as there is no way the lore on that is so great that it would suffer from a change, especially since you can full heal by sleeping for 8 hours.... The power of rest bests magic in this world....I mean I've heard of take a nap and you'll feel better but damn man If I'm down to 1hp(near death) all I have to do is go night night and I'm all better? I gotta hear the story behind this(lore in game) and I hope to be super impressed with the reason.
  8. Hmm, this one I'm not so sure about. I'm not a huge fan of the stampede effect of the ie games when you have a full party. That said, we havent touched the mix yet, so theres a chance we'll make the footsteps slightly more audible. And MAYBE we'll be able to get a footstep slider for those who like footstep sfx. Maybe. The current footstep volume gives an impression of walking on the moon (no sound propagation whatsoever) and is not cohesive with the volume of other sound effects that happen in the distance but they're way louder than the footsteps of 5 characters marching or running on the screen. This effect is more prominent when the music is turned off or at a lower volume. A footstep volume slider would be ideal. But I think is better to have the "stampede effect" instead of insufficient volume because its all about audio feedback which is very important (lack of audio feedback has an alien/unsatisfactory effect) I agree but objectively speaking those BG steps could be tuned down a bit...not saying to make them mute or anything but a tad bit lower would work IMO. Like justin said though if we could have a slider for such options that would work even more. The more options the better and it seems that they are at least trying/thinking about giving us some sliders. I hope we do get sliders for selection circles too.
  9. I don't clearly remember the annoying parts of the battle music that they are referring to but I don't mind some loud battle music here and there. If these are over the top then.... Put that **** over the top AFAIC If the above tunes are what we are shooting for then....carry on
  10. If he's the project lead he should get final say otherwise he wouldn't ever really be empowered and Feargus would just be micromanaging and I doubt that would work or that he'd stay in such a situation. I don't think Obsidian's culture is like that. I have no doubt that they discuss it then JE has the final say and gives his explanation why....at least that's how it works in Dev shops with any sort of decent culture. I doubt JE goes over and tells the tank team what to do and I don't suspect that happens to him either.
  11. I don't think anyone is denying that this game has a lot of 4E influence it's that most people just dislike 4E and question why they went with it....well maybe not the people who know why
  12. Did they not take inspiration from MMOs to appeal to the younger audience? Copy cat world really....WoW had such success everyone figured they would be able to get a piece of the pie...most failed miserably...4E included.
  13. Agreed big thanks to all the fellas putting in hard work trying to make this game the best as possible, even if we disagree about whatever subject the intent is there for the benefit of the game. I'd do a lot more testing and stuff myself if A) I had backed the game for more money B) was not already doing software development as my job
  14. No it isn't and the lack of sales back that up...there is a reason they dumped it with the swiftness...it's terrible. I once thought it'd make a good video game implementation and this game has completely reversed my decision. Although it won't be an actual version of 4E. Thank god for their partnership with Paizo.
  15. The adventuring day is way too short...it doesn't even matter if you play well or play poorly you aren't squeezing out too much more on a perfect battle with all crits and ****z. So far i'd say the idea that rest spamming was solved is false.
  16. Of course, it's using Unity. Uh.... If somebody told you four years ago that you would be getting a new Infinity Engine game,
  17. I personally would have backed it more if it wasn't like this. In other words if it was to be almost a carbon copy of say BG2 with the mechanics I would have forked over a lot of money. I was pretty cautious, especially being an old schooler from the BIS days and knowing how JE thinks/wants to do things. IWD2 was my least favorite IE game but I actually liked NWN2 more than most, especially with the expansion MoTB. The vanilla campaign grew on me even though the Shadow King was lame. Oh well, I guess I don't lose out on much if the game ends up sucking. I do feel for those higher tier guys who are not pleased atm(seems to be a few of them). Hopefully at worst it will work out better than you think and be reasonably fun. OE guys are smart and do take a lot of the well articulated points into account and with the time that's left they can certainly polish up and bug squash the game. I do wonder if it would be better to postpone winter release but I may end up waiting until patch 1 or 2 to get it anyway. *shrug* we'll see.
  18. I agree with you on this and it looks like it is going to feel very cramped and rushy when exploring in PE. I don't mind having some empty space and you could argue that in some cases that extra space helps with combat/tactical positioning. Seems to me that their idea that this game would be *howeverbig* compared to BG1/2 is going to be smaller than they said since they were going from the map count. In reality it seems this game will be much shorter since the maps are actually smaller(I understand not smaller in resolution).
  19. Are the maps really that cramped? I keep reading that different people are getting clustered up into a corner and such. Is the map space too small on some of the maps or does the character models(size) have more to do with it?
  20. PEs portraits overall are worse than any of the IE games and it's not even close....that's just my opinion but wow they are bland and uninspiring. Also like the other poster said...no one is wearing helmets? Hoods? anything? It's almost unbelievable.
  21. Hence the issue with trying to fix what isn't broken. ....No....slow mo and all that jazz is extra and shouldn't have anything to do with standard play. It's actually an unnecessary feature and I have no idea how that got in over other more important features. I'd be impressed if more than 5% of the people who buy the game actually use it. What is this the Matrix? comon Neo...
  22. Hell judging from that video it's hard to argue that they got the bow power wrong in the original BG
  23. gg I agree that the recovery time while moving should be changed or cut. The actual first impression I got when I heard that this game had recovery time paused while moving was "why""what""huh"...made no sense then and still doesn't, even after the explanation. This video shows what probably was normal among elite archer units in many different cultures from eras past. That's not to say that EVERY archer was anywhere near that good but this is a fantasy game and the PC/NPCs in this game(and enemies for that matter) should be super or at least capable at doing special feats in a similar vein. And the IE games game-play was based on RTSs anyway so....kiting exists in these games and is a skill...add better AI or "lockdown" moves for kiteable units if you want to combat such things. Moves such as charge from WoW...this game clearly knocks off MMOs so why not....
  24. I've always done the same thing...I just make up what I think it says and go with it....I've gotten some strange looks from DnD nerds on how I pronounce Drizzt...
