Fog of War
GreyFox replied to Billy O's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It's probably a mistake or unwanted result of adding increased range to LoS since vision range was so short at first. I imagine that walls will block LoS in the future. Well the characters probably can't cast through a wall I meant player vision, although some of the beta testers can make sure that we can't cast spells through(or over) walls -
Spell queue
GreyFox replied to ryukenden's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No to action queue it was god awful in NWN which is where Sensuki is probably coming from(and also where the people who want it are coming from). This is not NWN. -

When Sensuki says auto attack was not on does that mean he just wasn't using it? Or does this game NOT have an auto attack? -

There is something to be said for familiarity IMO. The setting is already new and the game mechanics will take some getting used to. Most of us know what the "blue plus sign" does(heal) so it's one less thing to try and figure out. Besides how many different ways can you really put haste or heal into an icon...just google haste icon and....yup most people use boots with wings or something similar. I do understand how people may think it is out of place though since the setting is more dark/stoney. The icons are pretty bright and colorful. -

It's definitely good to point everything out, just in case, but, at the same time, I really don't think anything at this point is supposed to be "final." Not any of these little details, anyway. This is sort of the "stuff's going to need tweaking" phase. Not the "okay, everything should be good! WHAT?! FLAWS?!" phase. That comes later. Yea I agree that's why I was saying I don't think it is the final version of the animations...unless that was lost in translation. -
Transparency in Talents
GreyFox replied to Pray's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think one of the devs made a post saying they were going to add descriptions to things like talents, ability scores, and other areas where a tooltip would be useful. In the E3 demo there was also nothing really shown so the viewers had no idea what things did....but we don't know what build the beta is compared to a build that could have descriptions. -
I look forward to being totally owned in the beta. I think I can maybe do a little better than Adam even on a first try, but if I don't get party wiped a few times before getting the hang of it I'll be disappointed. Upon even more review I wonder if they will want to revisit that whole healing spells don't heal actual life idea. It looked as though you can't get very far without taking a significant amount of real hp damage.(The way attacks work in this lead to way more hits) There were clearly a lot more enemies to fight in that zone and he was taking damage at pretty high clip.(real hp damage) It would be something like heal 1 real hp healed per 4 or whatever stamina healed with a spell. I think something like that would be on par but I guess the backer beta will tell us more. Or the 1:4 (is it?) real hp to stamina damage taken could be upped to 1:5 etc.

What race will you play as?
GreyFox replied to Barothmuk's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I always tend to play a human rogue in my first play throughs in games like these. I could get behind an Aumaua like this though: -

Oh, yea that is probably an animation issue? Saying that it was coming from the feet is being nice on one it look like he basically farted out a spell. Boogerman? former Interplay -

Spells don't come out of wands AFAIK. Wands have their own attack. Think of wands like bows for mages. Iirc, its wands, staves and rods that allow the "Blast" (?) ability. Do spells come out of the grimoire or are they supposed to come out of the mages body because, soul power? I'd imagine it should look similar to BG where the mage sort of "pushes" it out. Like in BG there was that circle the mage/cleric seemed to move his hands around and then "shoot" the spell out. In the video I could have sworn I saw a 'hadoken' from the cleric but not much hand waving to speak of. Soul power and coming from the body would make sense to me. Actually looking more carefully, it looks like both magic missiles and standard mage attacks (stuff coming out of wand) come from the character's feet and then travel along the ground after the mage swings his wand. I hope this is simply an unpolished animation issue. Spells should come out of the wand because it's kind of misleading for the mage to swing his wand like a projectile is going to come out and then it magically comes out of his feet. Maybe one's soul resides in one's feet in PoE? Yea I was going off Josh's post on wands and how they have their own attacks and increase blast damage when being used as an implement. I wasn't under the impression that you had to use the wand though so spells wouldn't come from it. -

Pathfinder CRPG by Obsidian?
GreyFox replied to Jigawatts's topic in Pathfinder Adventures: General Discussion (No Spoilers!)
Yea...not to mention that MTG card game + Hearthstone and such are already in place for people who play card games online. I'm not sure a Hearthstone player would play Pathfinger Cards as most of those guys only play it due to WoW, Warcraft, or another Blizzard game put them there. It's not like they were aching for a cardgame from Blizzard. I guess we'll see how it goes that's why I assumed Pathfinder people would mostly play it because who else knows about Pathfinder Card Adventures? -

Upon watching the stream again I find it so strange that the Aumaua has white man hands and a big blue face. Not sure why I can't get over that, it's freaking me out that his hand color doesn't match his face. -

Pathfinder CRPG by Obsidian?
GreyFox replied to Jigawatts's topic in Pathfinder Adventures: General Discussion (No Spoilers!)
am actually not knowing many pathfinder fanatics that would be interested in a card game, but clearly there is enough. we joked about the possibility o' the project being nothing more than a smart phone app, but it seems that our mocking were closer to the truth than we hoped. d&d d20 were actual a very good system. sure, the game eventually got too big for itself with literal hundreds o' splat book prestige classes, feats and spells, but the core system were excellent. and yeah, stuff like the ranger class and harm spell needed to be balanced, and bab were a flawed thac0 wannabee from d&d, but 'tween levels 4 and 12, d&d d20 were a relative intuitive and well designed system that allowed for a great deal o' dm freedom. when d&d abandoned d20 and went to 4.0, there were, understandably, more than a few folks who wished for a more familiar incarnation o' d&d. so, paizo created pathfinder and many o' the d&d refugees were overjoyed at the results. not only were the core rules more coherent and balanced than d&d 3.5 (and why wouldn't they be as there had been so much time to perfect d20,) but the adventure paths were frequent superior to wotc offerings. rise o' the runelords, with the possible exception o' the final module, were excellent and thoroughly fulfilling. more than a few o' the adventure paths has been at least as good as runelords if not better. reign of winter, for example, is the best commercial adventure we has played in years. on the negative side, much as d&d began to collapse under its own weight, so too has pathfinder. there is simply too much. the more rules and feats and classes you add to a game, the more difficult it is to retain coherence and balance. with each new book, pathfinder becomes more in need o' a serious overhaul. paizo boards is awash with optimized builds and discussions o' rules exploits. a large % o' folks is gaming the game, and that is not healthy. that being said, d20 were excellent. many gamers realized that d20 were excellent. that is why pathfinder has been so well received, making it the mostest popular pnp system. obsidian making a pathfinder game strikes us as a good idea. on the other hand, obsidian making an electronic card game is meh. am doubting most pathfinder players actual care 'bout this news, but as we noted above, there must be enough folks to make this a reasonable project... which just goes to show how many pathfinder fans there is. still, the actual news is... meh. HA! Good Fun! Couldn't have said it better myself! Like for you sir -

Not that I personally care about graphics but I do wonder if Obsidian set themselves up for uneeded critique by using the models in that way. It's almost like half paper doll half want to be nice 3D looking rotatable character.(except it's not high rez at all) I personally can't tell if that Aumaua is a regular person wearing a mask or what. Seems like his arms shouldn't be standard human/white....shouldn't they match his facial colors? If the idea is that only the face is fishlike then....wut? Maybe would have been a better direction to not showcase low rez models like that.

At least you made it to 2 minutes! I can honestly say I have no idea wtf is going on anymore the only thing that amazed me was just how far away that apple is from the tree.
