  1. Helm, your fears are ungrounded, many people have tried to make this clear to you. All game-play styles will be available, and sometimes some will be more viable or logical than others. Combat will not be less of a possibility, but other paths are now possible too. Your choices will depend on the skills of your party and your playstyle. The XP rewards for combat specifically were removed because combat was often the no-brainer answer. So rather than becoming less viable from an equal position, it's becoming equally viable from a preferential position. I've seen this thread degenerate into factions and negative language. that is not conducive to good argument. so let's get back to arguing the points, shall we?
  2. I'm happy I can vent here on the forums. that helps a great deal.
  3. pretty much this. unfortunately, for social housing there are waiting lists of about 7 years (I've been on one for 1.5 years now) and for the private market rent is expensive because of the economic crisis, most people decided to rent as it is cheaper than buying. So, high demand, low supply, obvious results. I've been going to various appartments offered for over a year now, and either they are more expensive than advertised, or because of some arbitrary rules by the tax office, I wouldn't be able to get subsidies on them (putting them out of range of what I can afford) And despite my best efforts, I'm starting to lose motivation to go looking. Not that my mother believes I'm trying hard enough. It's never enough, surely she would have found something by now... that's the implicit argument she's decidedly not saying. I've been building a buffer though, so I have some money saved.
  4. tried yes, succeeded no. And having been stuck back home with my mother for over a year now, I can honestly say, yes, I do hate her. I've tried and tried and tried, but I've never actually gotten to the point where she treats me like an adult. I know I'm not exactly the model son, family black sheep and all that, but the constant disapproval is getting to me. I'm smart goddamnit, I'm hard working, I'm sociable, polite, but somehow all she sees are my failings. So yeah, I blew today, after she told me how to use the microwave that we've had for 15 years and which *I* taught *HER* to operate. She just keeps piling on till I've had enough, and when I get angry I get verbally abusive, and then it's all my fault. When I was 15, she kicked me out of the house for a few months, Back then, everyone kept telling me there are two people responsible for conflict. Everyone kept telling me it couldn't be just her. But here I am, 26, back with my mother, and you know what I've learnt? I was right the first time. It IS not my fault. It's hers. it's ALL on her. So yes, Hate is a strong word. it's also accurate. And until the day she starts treating me with respect, I will keep hating her. I'm so done with her meddlesome nature. The fact that it's always me who has to bear the brunt of her passive aggressive behaviour, because *SHE* can't ****ing learn to channel her frustrations and deal with them in psychologically healthy ways. I'm done. She's the type who listens to psychologists, but only hears what she can accuse others of. I've seen decades of advice be filtered by her ears, anything pertaining to her will just not reach her. People told her she might have ADHD as well (since that's you know, genetic) but no... "You got that from your father" or "Even if I did have it, it's not affected me negatively, so why would I need to change anything" the amount of denial I have to deal with is so great, that for me it's insurmountable. I'm not a trained psychologist. But you simply cannot tell someone who won't ever listen. you can't help someone who won't be helped. Edit: Also, she won't ever accept something if it comes from me. which just shows how little faith she has in me, she's completely dismissed me as credible source for anything.
  5. I hate my mother, I hate being poor, I hate being 26 and stuck with her. That Transactional psychology video made a lot of sense. And I don't credit my mother with the willpower to do something about her crappy way of treating me like I'm a child. I hate getting blamed for **** she sets me up to, I hate not being able to see her emotional manipulative behaviour before it is too late, and I hate constantly falling for it and giving an antagonising response. There is just no winning. I wish my apartment was never torn down. Back then I still had a good relationship with my mother. I'm sick of feeling guilty for responding with anger when she so clearly puts me in that position. I'm sick of being barraged all day every day with helpful suggestions I didn't ****ing ask for. And I'm sick of the inherent disapproval and disappointment she constantly telegraphs to me. I ****ing hate her.
  6. Quest only xp prevents me from killing the poor animal, even if I just want to kill it for "fun" or it's pelt (loot)? Wow, that makes sense. Really, it does (not). What? As to your edit; What prevents you? Nothing. It's that you're not REWARDED for it. A very important destinction... What if I'm a poor bastard in PE and really need cash? The "quest xp only" system will prevent me from going on a murdering spree for loot.... how? Oh right, I almost forgot. There will be so much loot in PE that you don't need to kill anything, you will just avoid all combat. The loot system is implemented in a way so that the pacifist players are not at a disadvantage and will still get loot. So not only the "quest xp only" system will prevent me from killing those poor evil orcs, the loot system will too. How funny is that. Killing in PE will be "double pointless". lol Not to mention that you could skip whole areas in Baldur's Gate, because you didn't need to do every side quest and kill every monster, either for loot or xp. If you didn't know that, then you are a moron. But some people like to visit every area anyway so that they can find that super rare loot. Sadly, you must also kill to do this and will also collect more xp for this. How sad. But at least you can avoid the combat in PE now! lol I don't like your tone. Be nice.
  7. Colour code all stats so you can see at a glance what's good and what could use improving.
  8. It depends on the FOV you have whether archery is useful. If enemies can close the distance in seconds it's quite useless to have @3) yes, that's a good idea. And maybe it's nice if some enchanted arrows have an X% chance of returning to quiver. The reason I usually stay melee is because (decent) ammunition is a constant money drain.
  9. that's actually a good solution, if these xp's are part of separate upgrade paths. but that might not work out for a diverse party.
  10. UpgrayeDD have you considered that incentives might work differently?
  11. We've got a good discussion going on here. clearly this is something important. I find the problem of much of the conflict resolution and encounter solving is that it's clear that you're dealing with an obstacle. When that's the case you're searching for a solution, rather than playing and acting like you would. (If you get what I mean) not delivering xp for specific solutions goes a long way to making it much more like playing an ongoing game and less like solving independent problems.
  12. except until a player gets there he'll have no idea how much he has yet to gain. XP at some early point in the game will always be preferable to the risk, because you can reload. Unless you're playing in ironman mode in which case avoiding combat is king and the best way to proceed. But in normal play if you lose a character yeah theres always the reload and if you find its too tough then you can always sneak or talk through(which are the paths of least resistance). Once you make the rewards equal(or near enough) for all paths Most people(not all) will opt for the easiest path. easy for them. that's the thing, some people are better at combat, others are better at dialogue.
  13. what do you mean, "if"? In one example, the US military paved over an archaeological site when they needed a landing strip for aircraft. Do you know how much an aircraft carrying tanks can weigh? everything below was destroyed. That pissed me off too. Though it was early in the war (Iraq) so I can understand the reason, even if I don't think it's a valid one. anyway I'm ranting I'm not really disagreeing with you.

  15. I think he legitimately tries to point out that Al-Qaeda is a broad term used for many organisations which are autonomous from Al-Queda leadership."Al-Qaeda linked" doesn't say much. It's just a convenient term for us to put it into context Edit: it's like saying "Anonymous hacked the playstation network" Who is in Anonymous? any-one who claims to be. And what some do for anonymous might not involve much more than a fraction of its "members" All you need is a Guy Fawkes mask and an internet connection.
  16. I watched Django: Unchained. Very impressive movie, I had my doubts about Quentin Tarantino's ability to keep growing as an artist but this movie puts all my worries to bed. It's definitely a Tarantino Movie. And he is definitely a master of his craft. It also explained a bit to me which always troubled me, which is the difference between language usage in some black communities in America and white America. It's still a hold-over from slavery times, and I guess for Americans that might be obvious but for me as an European it mystified me. A lot now has a context where first context was missing.
  17. If you want to come to Europe, go backpacking. spend little, meet people and let them help you, you'll do fine. If you are seen to make an effort to speak the local language, all the better, though in Germany or the Netherlands or the north of Belgium, you'd have no trouble. I know the disapproving/disappointed parent thing too well. And I know how depressing it is, but you're not living your life for them. I too have felt (sometimes still feel) that life is passing me by, but then, I look at the people I admire and find many of them were late to the game. Some of them found they wanted to do something completely different with their life than what they had expected they wanted. So who knows. There's no guarantees that I can offer you, but don't get hung up on failures. besides, my greatest failures ended up teaching me the greatest wisdom I've come by.
  18. Personally I was rather upset that they destroyed cultural heritage sites of old muslim tombs because "Blasphemy!" the tombs were idolatry. There they were at one of the most spiritual places in the world, where real theology was practised, where great ideas (whether for good or bad I leave to you) were inspired. and they ****ing destroyed it. poof. gone from history the oldest korans in north africa, burned, gone the beautifully constructed tombs, bulldozed. why? because they didn't practice their religion "the right way" So I'm biased. The cultural anthropologist in me is upset.
  19. 1. Crafting is already in, as it was a stretch goal. 2. Perhaps you can't craft anywhere, but only around workbenches like in the KOTOR game. then the game will have some sites with forges and billows and moulds and ****. 3. I was hoping, hoping mind you, that people would get the idea of this thread and post about 1-2 lines of what they would like to see implemented. I'm not saying no discussion is allowed, but if you start focussing on one suggestion we'll be here all day and we might as well split it off and give it it's own thread. (which is fine. you take a quote from here and make a thread about it) Back on topic: I think it would be cool if there was this one scene where you enter a tavern and the music is so loud you can't hear anyone talking and you have to go outside to talk.
  20. American accents tend to be immersion breaking for me, especially when they're trying "ye olde english".
  21. Quite the opposite, encounter xp means you can choose your own way to solve the encounter, whether you prefer stealth, combat, or social skills. And all these lead to the same or similar rewards. So it rewards how you prefer to play.
