Permanent Injuries

I'm going to veto this. If my arm gets cut off, I will reload, as will a lot of other players, I am willing to bet. -
How many [Rings]?

Perhaps rather than upgrading your stats, maybe some rings could actually give you some options (different but of equal value) in Dialogue or combat. -
How many [Rings]?
JFSOCC replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No you'd be reforging them, they'd be objectively more powerful, just not as powerful as the two equipped separately. Imagine picking the finer parts of each ring and combining them. Say the gemstones, the better quality metal, etc. -

Beyond good and evil

it's true that choice is important, P:E is going to have a prison in the stronghold, so maybe you can capture the person who sets the fire instead of killing him. Still stopping him. Now you have an ethical/tactical choice. just remember not to give him any flammable objects while he's languishing beneath your stronghold. -
I'm already working on a story for a mod. I've never really modded before (save from some tiny tiny stuff) so it'll be cool to get to do this.

How many [Rings]?
JFSOCC replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
what if you could craft rings into more powerful versions by combining them with other rings. Crafting lovers have something cool to do with their skill, powergamers/minmaxers/spikes get to become more powerful, and If you have several rings that you can't wear you can make them useful. Meanwhile it respects a lower limit. If you let the increase be a fraction (not y+x=z, but rather y+1/2x=z) you curb the powerspike And the crafting itself could be appropriately expensive. -

For study purposes the hypothetical scenarios are excellent. This class prepares you. If you watch the series further, you'll find he uses some real life scenarios as well. The "lets assume you know that" is part of the premise, because it's about thinking about your decision-making that is what is being trained. -

Doodads and other artwork which you can use to dress up maps without being able to draw well. The ability to script a wide range of complex triggers. Adding abilities/features/traits should be possible as well.

Beyond good and evil
JFSOCC replied to Auxilius's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'd like to use what I call the "which vs what" argument. in scenario 1, you have to choose between two options, and no matter what, it's going to be one of them. In scenario 2 your choice is less clear. The option to push the fat man is a 'what' option, rather than a 'which' option. It's an additional choice, rather than an initial one. -

Beyond good and evil

Well the difference is between categorical thinking and consequentialist thinking. One judges the actions themselves, the other the resulting world from those actions. I'm firmly in the latter camp. I believe holding on to absolute morality like that leads to horrors of doctrine. Where you would not lie to save the life of a friend, because lying is bad... Maybe you're interested in this: It's a series of 20 lectures (2 per episode) given by Michael Sandel, a Harvard Professor teaching his ethics course. -
How many [Rings]?
JFSOCC replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
10 rings makes the most sense to me. Or 1 per finger, in case different species have differing digits. And then space out rings in loot to be rare enough that most people never get 10 rings on their one character. Those with crafting and time and resources might max it out, if they want to so desperately. Play as you wish. -
I played Journey while high last night, I got to say it's been a mythical experience. I'm so glad I finally got to play it, it lived up to the hype and then some. I've never felt so rewarded for exploration and faffing about.

true, but what I dislike is that some classes, historically, have had preset dump stats. there was always that one attribute which you simply couldn't take as a mage/rogue/fighter, and there were attributes that you simply could not *not* take. I'm perfectly ok with dump stats, as long as they're based on my choices, not class pigeon-holing. I'm looking forward to this new attribute system.

The Appeal of Fantasy
JFSOCC replied to mcmanusaur's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I don't particularly know why I prefer fantasy over other genres, I'm not sure if I do, though there certainly seems to be a preference. I think it is because fantasy is free to tackle subject matter that wouldn't otherwise find its way into fiction, and it can do so in a politically neutral way. I find though, that most of the reasons why I like fantasy, are reasons why I like fiction, rather than the genre specifically. Yes, it can challenge beliefs, yes it is escapism, yes, fantasy is imaginative (hence the name ) But mostly, I think the fantasy genre allows an author (or authors) to set up a world free from real world conventions, and imagine their own. In that way it's very much a clean slate from which any idea could be investigated. The author is free to create his or her own setting. -
