just out of curiosity Sensuki, what is the speed of your hard drive? I suspect you're using one that's 5400 and I bet if it were 7200 or even an ssd drive it would be much faster. Since the game is basically only loading one humongous image, there's not a ton of stuff going on in the game and I think your performance hits are related to the read write capacity of your hd.

worst case scenario, in older versions of unity you could lower the shadow intensity very quickly so they weren't so intense. I imagine it's probably even more efficient now.

480 Discussion
Since there's a programmer present, do you think you guys would have time to include an option to flip portraits in release so they face right or left? No biggy, but lots of the portraits are great, but if you have a pet, then they cover up a good portion of the portrait.

Update on the Update
just out of curiosity, I've seen some dev's posting about playing the game and they're on version 488 I think currently. Was the version the folks reviewing the game the same version of the 480 BB, or was it slightly newer, and are they getting a patched version before the release date to have a fair opportunity to write on stuff that may have been addressed? Also, how many folks internally are testing the Mac and Linux versions vs the PC? It seems like there are specific bugs on those other versions not being reported elsewhere which is good I guess that they're being caught, though I suspect there are quite a lot more folks testing on the PC.

Monk tank build experiments
What's funny is how much fun folks were having with the cypher class because they were OP. Now that they nerfed them they're not as fun. Similarly with Monks, you kind of need to get them leveled up to feel fun. Remember these guys are playing at level 4-8ish when final cap is 12. So mid game content roughly, they should feel fairly strong by this point.

I've been on the internet for a while and Sensuki is literally the only person I've seen use the term like this. And even if people are using it the way you describe it, it is wrong and should be corrected (like people who say "for all intensive purposes" or "I could care less"). For all intensive purposes, I could care less about the way LARP is used as a monogram. intents and purposes

Update 91: Closing in on March 26th!
I've gone through what Lord Crush has, so I can understand some frustration. In fact, I ordered a book from Europe on the 22 of Feb. It was supposed to be here in 5-10 days. Now it's the week of the 16th of March and it's still not here, nor has the company acknowledged that it's on it's way. Only stating that it's shipped. So I'm feeling a bit frustrated, but I think it only frustrates me not having a way to know where in transition it is. At least you'll have a way to play it and experiment a little bit and maybe even try out a few different builds before thing's show up, and when it does you'll know the game a lot better and you'll probably appreciate the extra goodies even more by then

ohh, birds should only be heard at daytime. I bet they could have used a dedicated audio programmer to catch stuff like that.

Will the final release use polygonal shadows, or vertex shadows?
I was wondering why shadows are still being used with what seems to be vertex shadows, and wondered since Unity supports in engine real time polygon shadows and there's not really that much going on for processing, nor is polygon shadows much strain on the computer and would look a lot nicer, could we have an option to toggle shadows in game? Or would it be too much to ask for a tiny particle emitter to be created to shoot out a dark shadow under the feet of the player to help them feel more grounded in the world? Some shadows in game are way way too strong, while others feel pretty reasonable, but it seems like ya guys are faking the shadows and I don't know why. Granted they do work MUCH nicer in 5.0, but still seem pretty decent in 4.6 as well. Ooops. I posted this in the wrong thread. Mod you can move this if you need to. Also I had a typo in the title, it should be real time polygon and not polygonal.

Backer Beta Build 480 Portraits
Can you dev's add an option for us to flip the portrait so they face left or right without having to duplicate the images in the folder and waste space?

Maybe change the size/position of animal companion icon?
that's a valid request, friend. The animal portrait needs to be about 20% more off of the character portrait, or indeed be dockable to other corners of the main portrait. Additionally, it would be nice if the animal companion portrait was sort of transparent and only became opaque as you hovered over it to select it. I think it would be a nice gesture to include an option to flip the portrait facing left or right. That would be easier than having to load duplicate images in the folder and taking up space.

Music in Backer Beta
It's kinda like the SNL skit where the guy says I got a fever, and the only prescription is 'moar cowbell!!' that xylophone over and over is still almost like the initial horn part that was going dada da dada da dada dada for near eternity. That has been really reduced at least. I don't know how much that combat music is used in game you shared, but the other ones used in the livestreams were great and not annoying at all at least.

i wonder if that's what Brandon was talking about with there being an issue in the way audio is streamed for this version of the bb?

Backer Beta Build 480 is Live!
if you paid for the backer beta during kickstarter, or within a window of time afterwards they linked you your key to d/l the bb on steam. If you're just now finding out about the game you'll have to just hold out for 2 more weeks when it comes out.

[480] Long item names in shop overlap with price
That background of the light wood really needs to be darker too. That looks horrible with the white font. Obsidian, you can keep that graphic, just make it darker and resave it before it goes into the shipped game. That looks very amateurish. Also, I suggested to Sensuki to make a separate bug report because it's kind of related. Text needs at least a 5-10 point padding inside the text box containers. Holy Radiance and Frenzy are two examples where text descriptions have the font on the margin of the box and there's no breathing room. But it's in several areas in the game.

This site is no longer up, but it used to be awesome because the character's like this one was an image, but she blinked and I wanted to recreate a similar thing if the processed worked.

Music in Backer Beta
The audio guy was experimenting with how frequently music play's and last he mentioned there was a 4 min delay from ambient music playing in area's and we know that he also is aware of listener fatigue, so hopefully there is a lot more in the real game. I watched a 30 min bb stream of vs 480 and that combat music has gotten a lot better than before, but everything else ive heard in other area's are a lot less repetitive in the melody.

Backer Beta Build 480 Portraits
Hey guys, I wondered something.... I have an idea... Just for grins can someone attempt to load an animated gif file as the portrait in the BB? I'm not sure if it would work, but it would be pretty awesome if it did. I may create custom animated portraits for players once it comes out. I'd like to create some portraits with the toons blinking or winking and stuff eventually, but since I don't have access to the BB I'd thought I'd ask someone here if they have the smarts to try it out and report back

[480] Blurry Environment Art in Winfrith's Shop and Hendyna's house
they did say that they wouldn't have time to go back and polish all the art in the game, so they tried to get it "good enough" on the first pass with hopes to go back and make it nicer later. I suspect, the man hours needed for this went to things like more portraits and ui tweaks.

PLEASE add seperate Sound Effects and Ambient Sound volume sliders
It has ONE audio slider. It does not separate the SFX from other sounds and stuff like that Some fella had a video on youtube for BB 480 I was trying to pause it on his screen it looked like there were like 5 sliders on his sound page. What do they do?
