I started with a math and physics teacher of mine in 7th grade who introduced me to pools of radiance which was on an old apple 2e computer lol. holy cow how times have changed. he gave me a copy of the floppy disks and he somehow managed to recreate this odd cypher wheel that acted as a key you input the certain glyphs in order and you could continue your game. I remember we had a 50 min lunch break and it took like 30 min to load the game, so i might get in about 20 minutes of game time if I was lucky. To this day, I love that cypher wheel idea, and I'm going to use it in my kickstarter project later this yr. I also started playing final Fantasy 1 and loved it. from there, I just loved the idea of exploring worlds and finding loot. I would make my own mazes on graph paper, create scavenger hunts and treasure maps, and realized I loved creating those types of things ever since I was about 8. I still do even though I'm all grown up now.

Really confusing guys, the price points, the content in each, etc it's really not explained very well what's in what, even for digital versions. I own a chunk of the digital versions in my backer tier, but I'm still unsure if I need to purchase the 512 page hardcover book or can use the digital guide, and don't want to buy the hardcover just to read every backers name in it, although I do appreciate everyone, I already will see your names in the credits. I know there was an official post a lil while ago and things look nice, but it's still kinda confusing what each one does.

I'm a bit worried
Falkon Swiftblade replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
o_O what is this I don't even Meaning it's not like you can just play for hrs interrupted on a pc. Unless your 14 living in your room with only enough space to walk to the door. Most folks old enough to remember these games have kid's and a life now. The computer is a shared household commodity. It's not like your cell phone you can take anywhere with you. Because it's a 60 hr+ game, finding time to sit down to play it without interruptions will be a chore. -
I'm a bit worried
Falkon Swiftblade replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
man ram is dirt cheap, and the extra 4 gigs of ram on the mac's are actually a pretty noticeable speed increase. That would've been my top priority. Although I can't fault the dude. They primarily write articles and play console games. Probably make their video reviews with imovie haha. Since I'm on an older macbook pro, I probably will have to just use my pc which is fine, but I was hoping to avoid the main room with 50 people in there watching TV and walking by every 3 minutes. That's one of the only crappy thing's about PC's, unless you have a dedicated game room, or your own space that's not shared it's a chore to be able to sit down and play a game like this and enjoy it. Granted, it sounds like it will run on a normal laptop too. I'm just in a unique environment. -
v480 Character Art Issues
Falkon Swiftblade replied to Sensuki's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
armors are looking much better than I anticipated though, that's good. Doesn't look generic at all. -
Backer Beta Build 480 is Live!
Falkon Swiftblade replied to BAdler's topic in Backer Beta Announcements
no I don't think the release patches will work with Beta. I saw another dev say that files from beta won't work with release, something about how they were having crashes because of saved data on old betas and not being compatible with current game. -
I'm a bit worried

omg the timing of this thread was hilarious! No sooner had I read BAdlers first reply when my computer locked up and I had to reboot. It never does that. -
If the game is gold....
Falkon Swiftblade replied to Halsy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Actually, you bring up a valid point.... I wonder how poe handles auto saves? It seems like a ton of bugs are related to save game's and loading saved game's in the beta. I hope this isn't one of those game's you have to save after every encounter. -
Review Watch?
Falkon Swiftblade replied to Fenwick's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm actually a little worried about the spoiler story stuff. I feel like they're going to be too cliche'd with the story and especially the ending of the game to try and appease 'the feels' of the old games, and I'm hoping it's at least something original. -
Female Orlan taller than male orlan
Falkon Swiftblade replied to Kiofs's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I actually really like that they made the female's taller than the male's for one race. That's fun. There's a few nation's in our world with taller ladies than men, I lost the stats but anyways good for them for having some fun creating a new race. It's one of those thing's like dwarven women having beards. Just enjoy it and have some fun. -
If the game is gold....
Falkon Swiftblade replied to Halsy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No trust me you didn't want the game early. I've been following the beta since they released it and it was a pile of poo until recently it's coming around. So it looks like thing's should kinda be ok by the first patch or two. I'm fine as long as it's not as bad as skyrim at launch. That was the worst experience I've ever had at launch, yet they still gave that game goty?! I think this will be much better. -
Nice, I'll have to watch it after you put it online cause I work through that time. Ask Josh for the sake of balance was there a way to play test the game against specific creature types before they were planted in the world, and what made him go with creatures such as lion's and giant beetles vs kobalds type's of creatures. Are animals an important part of the world? Also, what does he think about the idea for the expansion if rangers can get a skill to allow them to summon more creatures during that battle. So maybe extra lions come running in to aid in a fight or maybe bird's come from the sky and claw baddies in their eye's! That could be a per rest skill.

Also, hi5 to the art team. Man did they really up their game from the alpha they shared with us last yr. Those old model's were pretty yucky. These are pretty dang nice, and even nicer when not in uber big mode.

I haven't played yet, however I would think the more elegant solution would just limit frequencies of how often you can cast spells. Similar to per encounter or per rest use is now, you just scale those up or down by 1-3 based upon the level. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't currently gain additional uses of spells as you level up like the old dnd, but some per rest skills become per encounter. I would treat it the same way with armor types, except maybe you earn the right to wear plate at lvl 5 or above and leather at lvl 3. As you gain levels not only can you still wear all armors, but the amount of spell use per encounter or rest will increase by 1-3 based upon earlier context of what I said. Hopefully that makes sense.

[480] Crossbow reload animation glitch
Falkon Swiftblade replied to Sensuki's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
that's the expected results if I were to create a character. I want my guy to be faster at loading and shooting stuff. Cause if you're expecting the pet to be helpful you're playing the wrong game. Sensuki, on 17 Mar 2015 - 11:34 AM, said: Arquebus - same issue -
Sorry, I don't understand what you are trying to say here. Without healing spells you can't die? But with healing spells you die in one fight? Yes, exactly : without regen, you just "black out", and can finish your fight with the tankier characters... But with regen, your squichy fighter (why not) will just see his resistance oscilliating ... until his health begin to get low and he dies... Falkon, what is your kickstarter ? For the record, I can understant why my first question is not implemented ... and as their skill can be used in scripted interaction, they are still relevant. It is just stange ... but understandable. I haven't officially announced it yet. I'm still building my team and working on pre production stuff for when I take it to the masses. It's either going to be an interactive storybook, animated feature or a video game depending on my funding levels, so I'm trying to cover all bases when I pitch it.

On the first part I'm with you, and I agree. I'm working on a kickstarter for later this yr and that is one of the thing's I plan on doing for my project. My supporting character(s) will assist or comment on situations I get myself into. Maybe not the entire project, but certainly in parts. I'm also planning on character stats to dictate animation as well.

Monk tank build experiments
Falkon Swiftblade replied to Odd Hermit's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I have a feeling that's why there's so many bug's. Folks working on the game are probably just as confused as we are. Probably 2-3 people actually understand how to play the game as designed, the rest are just shaking their heads in agreement haha. It's slowly coming together though. Egads I can't imagine how this would've come out had they not allowed the backers to be on the beta for so long catching all these things! And this is just a snippet of the real game, yikes! -
To Sensuki overly pixelated lightning effect
Falkon Swiftblade replied to mrmonocle's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
if that wasn't pixelated, that does look like an AWesome vfx, probably my favorite I've seen in game so far. -
Basically I was hoping for dynamic shadows, or possibly worst case scenario some of the areas can lower the intensity of the shadow map. With such a strong shadow it indicates a very high light source such as 11am-2pm vs a softer shadow for a more ambiguous time of day, and it helps remove some of the visual clutter on screen when you have a full party.
