Dread Delusion It's got Sega Saturn-esque graphics and the models all kinda wobble, the textures are atrocious; by all rights I should hate the look of this game. But I don't. I can see why people have been comparing this to Morrowind. I definitely got that same feeling that I did the first time I stepped onto the shore of Vvardenfell, everything just seems so weird and alien. I'm on some kind of floating island, the sky is purple, there are humongous mushrooms, flying ships, weird mechanical constructs. I love the vibe. The game is still in early access, so I'll mostly just mess around with it for now to get a feel for the systems. I haven't had a chance to try out spell casting yet. Once it fully releases I'll attempt a full playthrough. I don't usually do early access, but it was on sale because of the Steam Summer Sale and this seems like it would be my jam, Sega Saturn/PS1 graphics notwithstanding.

I went to a BBQ yesterday. The weather was spectacular, save for the fact that it was hot as ****, but it's July in Cackalacky, it comes with the territory. My friend Thiago is the grill master. We bring him the meats and he grills them; my dude is a freakin' magician on the grill, plus he makes amazing chimichurri. An utterly obscene amount of food, meat and otherwise, was consumed. I brought kielbasa from the Polish store, there was steak, wings, pork belly, and the surprise hit from the previous cookout, chicken hearts. After I got home I was in a food induced coma on the couch for several hours. Good times!

@HurlshortDid you get to fire any rifle (M16?) in full auto? If you go by movies then everyone fires assault and battle rifles full auto all the time (from the hip for extra accuracy ), however they are generally more effective when fired in semi auto. Full auto has its uses, for example suppressive fire, but semi auto is used a lot more than full auto. That said, full auto is SUPER fun to shoot.

The LEGENDARY Scott Steiner math promo: My favorite part... I mean, I love everything about this promo, but keep an eye on Petey Williams' face. You can see the wheels inside his head spinning as he tries to follow Big Poppa Pump's math. The best part is that in a twisted, warped, fantasy land, the Steiner math actually adds up. The longer you listen to this promo, your chances of winning drastic go down.

Broken Roads demo It seems to be Aussie Fallout with a pinch of Banner Saga. Come to think of it, Aussie Fallout would just be Mad Max, except I've not met anyone wearing bondage gear yet. No world map, it seems, you just go from place to place with (random?) encounters along the way. The art style is quite nice. And that's the last of the demos I downloaded during NextFest. Phew, that was a lot of games.

This one is for @ShadySands This is maybe the best whisky I've ever had, but I rarely buy Lagavulin because I don't have Elon Musk money. That peaty goodness, though.

I broke my own rule about not watching anything that has Alex Kurtzman's fingerprints on it and attempted to watch Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. I made it about halfway through season 1 when I lost the will to continue, for now, anyway, which I think is further than I made it with Discovery. I'll give it this, it's not the horrific nightmare that was what I saw of Discovery and at no point was I seriously considering throwing my TV out of the window. Anson Mount is good as Pike and the show does have that hopeful vibe that I'm looking for with Star Trek. It's got it's moments and the melodrama is not quite as ridiculous as in Discovery. But man, they get so ****ing proud of themselves. There are those moments at the ends of the episodes where I can see the writers patting themselves on the back and I guess I'm supposed to get teary eyed and maybe I should stand up and clap or pump my fist in the air, I think that's the reaction they thought I'd have. This is me instead:

@ShadySandsEverybody has a different idea of what old skool is, plus that changes with time. For me, what changed hip hop forever was the arrival of Wu-Tang. 36 Chambers came out in 1993, so that's my own line in the sand. It's up to the individual, though.

The Muller-Powell Principle demo Under no circumstance is this Half-Life. Seriously, I know it's also got a hyphenated word in the title, but get those thoughts of Half-Life out of your head. Yes, I'm talking to you. What did I tell you? Just stop it! On a serious note, These devs definitely took inspiration from a couple of Valve games. In terms of look, feel, and tone, this wears its Half-Life inspiration on its sleeve. In terms of gameplay, there's definitely some Portal here. It's a first person horror puzzle game. That gun in the 3rd picture can absorb energy and then discharge that same type of energy as a beam. For example, if you find a heat source you can absorb the heat then discharge a heat beam. The gun and picking up and moving objects are used to solve puzzles to progress. There's no combat, at least in the demo, but there is a sort of spectre. He (said spectre resembles a man) appears in the intro cinematic and again at the end of the demo. If he touches you it's game over, reload checkpoint. You can't kill him, at least not with the tools available in the demo, but you can temporarily slow him down with a specific type of energy beam. So, basically, when senor spectre shows up you run and he serves as a ticking clock element forcing you to figure out how to get past obstacles quickly. Anyway, I like puzzle games, this could be a good time. I guess it will depend on how creative they get with the puzzles in the full game.

He's 69 years old. I'm in my mid 40s and I lift weights every day. I'm every bit as strong as I was at my peak in my late 20s, but I don't have the stamina I had 20 years ago. I imagine my stamina is only going to further deteriorate in another 20 years. Since Biden won't debate him, or Marianne Williamson, for that matter, I propose a posedown instead. I want to see Marianne break out a rear lat spread pose.

This Bed We Made demo This is a 3rd person mystery adventure game. It seems to take place in Canada in the late 50s. You play as a hotel housekeeper. In this short demo you discover that one of the guests has been stalking and taking pictures of you snooping on guests. The demo is just going through this one room. I tried to both do my job as a housekeeper (tidy up the room, throw out the garbage, make the bed, etc.), and snoop, but make sure to not leave evidence of my snooping (e.g. I found a key to a briefcase. After snooping through the briefcase I made sure to close it and put the key back where I found it). The game told me that there will be consequences, good or bad, for picking up items, but the demo wasn't long enough for said consequences to happen. Graphically, the game looks decent. Environment details, objects you can pick up and rotate all look great, decent particle effects. The character models, or should I say model, I only ever saw the housekeeper I played as, was overall decent. She looks a bit... wooden, like she's a very lifelike marionette, rather than an actual person, and the somewhat stiff movement animations kind of go along with that. What I'm trying to say is that the production value is definitely not AAA, but it's not bad either. Voice acting was decent. I'll keep my eye on this, I like mysteries and adventure games. The idea of trying to snoop on guests while trying to not get caught snooping seems like a solid core mechanic, if that's where this game is going to go.

Random video game news... the critical eyes have it
Keyrock replied to Hurlshort's topic in Computer and Console
Yeah, I agree with the sentiment that Dragon Quest (originally Dragon Warrior in North America) was the first of what we would later call JRPGs. There were games before Dragon Quest before it that we might call JRPGs, but DQ is the game that popularized the genre. Interestingly, it was a western RPG that heavily shaped what JRPGs would become, that game was Wizardry. There were some kinda sorta RPGs in Japan before Wizardry arrived on the island nation ,but Robert Woodhead's seminal blobber changed everything when it took the country by storm. -
Stray Gods demo So, it turns out that this is a musical, as in a good chunk of the story is done in song. I mean, it's in the title, or, rather, subtitle, but I didn't really pay attention to that, I downloaded the demo because the art style looked great. The singing was performed well enough and there's an audience for musicals, I'm just not a member of said audience. The art style is great, though. It's not fully animated, but rather a series of stills, sort of like a comic book, but not arranged into panels like in a comic book. It's got Greek Gods in it, so if you're into musicals and Greek mythology (with a modern twist, I guess) then this might be up your alley.

Do I get to pick which ancient enemy I get? Maybe it's selected by culture. I'm Polish so would I be given Holy Roman Empire for free? The entire HRE might be a bit much. Maybe just the Duchy of Bohemia.

Kung Fu Hustle is GOD TIER. I can't recommend it enough. I'm watching Forbidden Door 2: Rasslin Boogaloo. Awesome show so far, as expected. Props to the folks in Toronto tonight, a hot crowd makes a big difference for a wrestling show and these fans are going NUCLEAR. It will never happen, definitely not while Vince is alive, but a WWE, AEW, NJPW, and Stardom supershow would be the greatest thing ever. Edit: Orange Cassidy vs Katsuyori Shibata vs Zack Sabre Jr vs Daniel Garcia was so ****ing awesome that I had to put a pillow on my lap to hide my erection. Edit 2: Holy **** what a fantastic show that was. The only criticism I have is that it was too long, 5 hours is a bit much. Now that I'm done complaining about too much of a good thing, holy smokes that main event. Bryan Danielson vs Kazuchika Okada, talk about a dream match. The ending was stunning.
