  1. Okay, I officially don't understand this way of thinking. Réunion might be politically European, but geographically it's a part of Africa. Do you really consider yourself fully European? I wonder what the poll would look like if Britain still had its colonies and all seven continents voted "Europe" Or maybe Europeans are more likely to become active members of the community while Americans just back the project and move on. Over 70k people pledged on Kickstarter, but only 900 voted in the poll.
  2. I don't want generic humans. Jack-of-all-trades mentality bores me to death. This is a fantasy world, humans don't have to be a carbon copy of our race - they can be unique and have a specialization. I'd like them to have bonuses and penalties the way other races do.
  3. Yes, it would. We're afraid of anything spider-shaped, whether it's an actual arachnid or something else. I once had a panic fit when someone threw a spider-shaped plant at me and I thought it was alive. I'm arachnophobic, but oddly, giant spiders in video games don't scare me. I think they're too unrealistic to affect me; when I modded ambient creatures into Skyrim, tiny peaceful spiders creeped me out, but their larger friends didn't. I know other people find them uncomfortable, though - hence my question: would it be feasible to include a no-spider (and a no-snake while we're at it) button turning these creatures into something else? Or at least to mod it in when the tools are released. TES games have mods which replace spiders with bears.
  4. I hate to break it to you, but the EU isn't a continent <-- it's there on the left. Poznań, Poland.
  5. You won't get an argument from me on that. It's sad to watch (and play) the empty shell that TES has become. It's crucial to make sure that the game world recognizes and responds to the player's actions. If you make a habit of slaughtering villagers, there should be a reaction in other places you visit. If you walk around throwing fireballs left and right in a place where magic is illegal, you should be immediately attacked by the law enforcement. These are the basics, but recent games showed that developers still (or maybe not anymore?) can't grasp them. I believe that Project Eternity won't suffer from this problem because it's going to have a reputation system - the best way to measure your activity. It won't be black and white, but rather "you helped me, so I like you even if other people have issues with you". I liked the thieves guild armor in Skyrim. In fact, I used it for the rest of the game. But yeah, if every assassin in the province dresses the same, then it's ridiculously easy to throw them all in jail
  6. This is true. If I have to choose, however, it's story hands down. If a game has excellent story and mediocre gameplay, I'll still enjoy it immensely. If it's the other way around, I might get bored halfway through. I don't understand people saying "for story I'll read a book". Show me a book which tells the story of The Nameless One and his quest to solve the riddle of life and death. Show me a book about the Courier and her journey across Nevada. Show me a book about the Bhaa... no, wait, there is one and it's so awful I regret every second spent on it. It's not a choice of game versus book. They aren't equivalent. As a rule, games with a great story are far more memorable to me and more likely to make me tell someone: "Yes, it's an amazing game, you should definitely play it." 10 years from now, which game is going to be called the pinnacle of RPGs and still be played by hundreds of people: Planescape: Torment or Kingdoms of Amalur? Not necessarily. In fact, I'd say that video games are by far a better medium than movies - they can be cinematic when they need to be, at the same time leaving space for other storytelling devices. As proved by Torment and recently by Dear Esther (which is technically an interactive story), games can be as engaging as a well-written book - the problem is that most players and developers still treat them as entertainment only, not as a medium of artistic expression.
  7. This is IMO a bad idea. If the author is a good narrator, sure, why not? But if he's mediocre then they should definitely hire a professional.
  8. I didn't realize Baldur's Gate needs an order of guardians. I thought everyone was overjoyed that Project Eternity is going to be similar to BG
  9. Yay! Someone knows where I live without having to google it Jest nas tu więcej niż się spodziewałam. I wonder if they'll keep updating the Kickstarter page throughout the development? They still have a year and a half to go...
  10. Thats basically all Bethesda games ever. Actually, it's not. Before Oblivion every guild had a set of primary skills and attributes which you had to develop to advance in ranks. Yes, you can join the Mages Guild, but you'll stay a journeyman forever and stop receiving quests if you don't train your magic skills. Morrowind had three great houses of which you could join only one. Fighters Guild and Thieves Guild conflicted with each other (if you completed an early quest for Eydis Fire-Eye, you couldn't join the thieves anymore). Not to mention the guilds you didn't discover in your first playthrough (hidden requirements in Daggerfall, vampires in Morrowind). TES had potential for consistency, but it was lost when Todd Howard decided his games were too spread-sheety On topic: I agree with all points but one. Time limits - I don't like them. Yes, if there's a quest which requires my immediate attention, there should be consequences for not doing it right away (rescue mission in ME2, first mission in DX:HR). However, I don't want to constantly be under time pressure. I love exploring and I'd rather most of the game was obligation-free, so I can go wherever I want.
  11. The Kickstarter page only displays money collected on Kickstarter - it's quite logical when you think about it. They'll keep posting updates on their website and here on the forum, so this is where you should look for news from now on. There's already a thread about the Endless Paths artwork. IIRC, Feargus said that they all had to recover from the celebration and they're generally swamped right now, but it will be updated soon.
  12. If your novel is set in the world of PE and you intend to use it for commercial purposes (which selling on Amazon definitely is) , you need Obsidian's permission. More likely than not, a chunk of the profits would have to go to them. You need to contact one of the devs to know the details. Out of curiousity, how would you go about writing a novel set in a world you know next to nothing about? If you really want to write it, wait until the game's released, play it, take in the world's culture, politics and history and start from there. Right know all you can produce is a generic fantasy novel based solely on your imagination (which isn't a bad thing in itself, mind you, but it's not enough in this case).
  13. I'd like to know too. Half-elves are my race of choice in every game that features them. Was anything announced about sub-races? I know there's at least two groups of dwarves, but I don't think they ever said that we can choose to play as one or the other - I don't even remember if there are purely cultural differences or if their physique differs too. It seems that at least some of the races can interbreed, so even if we can't play as half-breeds it would be nice to see some NPCs.
  14. Simmer down. They can't possibly translate Project Eternity into every single language in the world, so someone will always feel neglected. That's why they're going to release translation tools - there seems to be a dedicated Italian community here, so even if you don't get an official translation you can do one yourselves. Be patient. If the devs look into this thread - and I'm sure they do every once in a while - they already know there's high demand for Italian localization.
  15. Wait, it is? Damn. I'm one of those who say it's not chocolate at all I got hungry reading about all this chocolate. I think I'll go make some delicious brownies.
  16. You are female, right? Because that statue is of a male creature... What does his/her gender have to do with foot fetishism? I'd love to see the updated picture, but it's understandable that they want to take a break after their successful Kickstarter and wild celebration. It's been a crazy month, they should focus on planning the game development now - giving us more concept art can wait.
  17. People tend to forget about Brazil, don't they? And that Russia, while a large country, doesn't have even half of the US population. A while ago someone made a thread about Spanish. Apparently, the one used on PE website is European. If the translation uses the same version, then South America isn't covered at all - neither by Spanish nor Portuguese. This leads me to believe that we need both Italian and Portuguese. I'm not sure about Asian languages. Is there really a market for a game like this? If there is, then I guess they should make a Mandarin translation. Think about it: they considered new translation and now that Polish and Russian are covered by the publisher, they don't need to pay for these two. Why not use the resources for another language?
  18. You are absolutely right. They should hire Asja. You know, the one who sang the original song which was INFINITELY better than Malukah's cover? I'm sick of Malukah. She's everywhere, but she's not even that great a singer. I liked The Dragonborn Comes, but not the rest of her covers. Age of Aggression was particularly awful because this song needs passion and her rendition was too mellow. I don't want her in Project Eternity, if they hired her I'd do whatever was necessary to remove her voice from the game. There are so many less controversial artists out there, why not choose one of them?
  19. Hear, hear. I hope GOG supports Linux by 2014. This will be just about time when I have to buy a new PC and I wanted to use this opportunity to get rid of Windows for good.
  20. Elven rogue, like I always do. Although I've been entertaining the idea of creating a monk... I'll see.
  21. How is Shivering Isles "during the game"? You can start it after you've completed the main quest. I prefer post-game expansions.
  22. Favourite: Baldur's Gate, Witcher and TES (I'd pick Fallout too if it was in the poll) What PE will be like: I won't be original, picked BG and Torment Also Witcher, mostly because of the soundtrack - I hope PE has one that fits it as perfectly. Well-written political bickering wouldn't hurt either. We are legion.
  23. For some reason the majority of bisexual characters are rogues, while kights in shining armor are always straight. Coincidence? Making all characters bisexual just so every player can romance anyone is a bad design decision (see Dragon Age 2 - romance in this game was absolutely awful, and I'm saying this as a homosexual). I cringe whenever I see bisexual NPCs whose only function is to appease the LGBT crowd. I don't want to be appeased, all I want is one or two well-written characters who happen to be gay. Think about Fallout's Arcade Gannon and Veronica - this is how gay characters should be portrayed. Their sexuality is mentioned casually and is just a fraction of who they are. Of course this is impossible to do with romanceable characters whose sexuality is, by definition, clearly stated - but I'd love to see that it is an integral part of a character's design, not just something the devs threw in at the last minute because of political correctness.
