  1. I have little doubt that within about the last 2 days of the campaign the expansion will become an add-on. It makes perfect sense, first tempt the 100 + dollar pledges to up theirs, then, after they got some of them to commit to the increase, make it available to everyone. At the same time that they make it an add-on they add a little something extra for the 165+ tiers to keep them at those levels. I think this move is quite intelligent from a making money point of view...and as long as that extra money goes into making an even greater game... Well, I'm not going to complain, afterall it's our choice, and lets face it, all of us here are already dreaming of how great this game will be to play. And this move will make it greater, whether I like wrestling with the temptation to up my pledge or not.
  2. I think that the level scaling in standard Oblivion was horrible, and I hope to see nothing like that in Project Eternity (Not that I think it will be that bad at all). I personally hope they take a look at the Oblivion mods which effected the leveling scaling by Setting maximum levels based on what the type of enemy it is, like a Thief can't be more then level 15 or something, and won't have the best armor and weapons. I'm currently too tired to go into more, but the level scaling mods I liked with Oblivion were Oscuro’s Oblivion Overhaul and Francesco’s Leveled Creatures and Items Mod. Lately I have been playing the latter and I have been liking it very much. Basically I want the game to be challenging, of course, but, I also want to be rewarded for my efforts, with being able to easily dispatch enemies that used to cause me a lot of trouble earlier, makes me feel like leveling and clearing every map actually means something. So mixed with the creatures that are hard on my current level, should be those that I can crush with a flick of my mighty wrist. Level scaling is not the black death, though I don't love the way it usually works, still I do understand how it could make the game more enjoyable if done right. I think as beta testers, we will be able to tell Obsidian if they have done it right or not. If the game is fun and keeps us involved with it to the end, they did it right, whatever their level scaling scheme is. Time alone will tell.
  3. I've got it! Dusk Elves! They will be the mortal enemy of the Afternoon Elves. No, No, No. Dusk Elves are the mortal enemies of the Dawn Elves. Afternoon Elves despise Morning Elves, Noon Elves, Midnight, Etc. Why must I go through this every signal time this discussion pops up?! Gosh!
  4. Maybe they could take a picture of it and put it in the END credits of the game (you know with them sitting in front of it or something). I believe what matters most is that the people who are making this game will see those names every day, and they will know that this is not a project funded by people who want to make money off it, but, by people who want to have a game they can love, remember, and play a decade from now. Those names on that plaque are there for the game creators; to inspire them each day, to do their best, to honor their fans/supporters, and to help them remember they got just about the best gig in the world. :D Still, I agree that your picture idea is cool too. And thanks Killroy for helping to make my future favorite game be even better!
  5. Watch it or Drizzt will get medieval on you.
  6. I am immensely fond of you Chris, I don't know you half as well as I should like, and I like one half of you half as well as it deserves. Happy 402nd you old bag! Don't disappear on us hey?
  7. Simply put: Cats rule.
  8. Title of a book ingame?: Who Could Forget the Royal Pain? YES! :D an excerpt: The Royal Pain, went running, running along the plain. Setting fires to fields, and signing of maidens freshly tilled. Proclaiming his infinite love of an Order, that had no border. Obsidian! Obsidian! Alas, so much better then Bethsidain (or something). An Order so unpedantic, its membership united, ecstatic, even fanatic. The Royal Pain with his pipe, played, played with a delightful hype. And was so outta tune, that lords payed him to not resume. Yet, they could not kill him for he was a member; who joined in September. Joined the Order for life, a $8 protection fee against his many plights. The Order gives his mouth courage, and his loins a certain extra "storage." He brings delight, as a plague brings blight. It is now plain, none could forget that Royal Pain. Thank you, thank you, brothers and sisters of the noble and true Obsidian Order.
  9. I'd be fine with just adding banks myself, they being much more important then money weighing something. However, most of these type of games don't have banks in them, and I figured the main reason why is that gold has no weight in them. Give gold weight and you will NEED banks. So that is the main reason why I support gold having weight. I think banks could be very interesting addition to this game. As far as some thinking they will have to go to the banks too often, well I believe people are too used to having to pay HUGE sums of gold for just about everything. As an example, I believe that instead of having to pay 1,000 gold coins for a suit of plate mail one should have to pay 100. What I'm saying is that if inflation wasn't quite so huge, enemies wouldn't be needing to drop huge mounds of gold, and thus you could go much further without worrying about its weight. And finally I added the "Bag of Holding" as a quest reward idea so that once you get to a certain level and you are finding too much gold to carry for long this quest will pop up, or maybe it will be given by a bank when you have a certain amount of gold in it. Thus this will make it so one doesn't need to run to the bank when you are finally getting huge amounts of the golden cash. Like I said before though, if they gave me a choice between money weighing something or just adding banks, I'd choose banks every time. I think they would add so much more than just dead weight.
  10. I do think gold should have weight, and to deal with this there should be banks in the game world. This will add another element that will help the game feel more realistic in my opinion. It may seem like busy work to some, but, just think of it this way, with banks will come more options, such as robbing them, trying to cash in NPC's bank notes, and getting different quest from bankers. Also seeing a bank in every city will undoubtedly make it feel like a more living world. I suppose if one gets enough money or finishes a quest they could acquire a "bag of holding" that takes the weight away if they want to carry it all with them. Still, I think having gold weigh something will add to the gaming experience more than detract.
  11. I wore a badge once...It took a nurse 3 hours to unstitch it from my arse. She was cute, so it was okay. Actually, I'm guessing, but I think you're just supposed to save the image you want as your "badge" from here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obsidian/project-eternity/posts/316398 and then make that your pic.
  12. I just want to be a master smith and churn out magical weapons that I sell to pampered knights and lords. Then, at the appropriate time, the swords will take possession of their owners and these "leaders" of men will form my initial army. An army who, for some shocking reason believe that a little known smith from Road's End should be emperor of all creation. I will of course act modest and humble, but ultimately, for the good of all the people, accept their just demands. Thus shall the true might of the smith class be known to all. No more will people poke fun of our black and sweaty faces. No more will they haggle for our wares. No more will they tell us their horses' shoe was of poor quality, and demand their monies back. No, my friends, we will be respected, nay worshiped. And our forge-fires will light forth a new age of metallic beauty, elegance, and fine cooking. Also, I hope in this game you can multiclass.
  13. Yes, I agree, I love going down into the sewers, it really feels like I'm coming home somehow. :D Plus I always look for some mutated ninja turtles down there to eat pizza with. Cowabunga!
  14. I personally am willing to sacrifice nearly all voice work. However, I do still like to hear the occasional line from a major player in the game. It does help me to feel more like I'm in that world. Still it isn't the most important thing, and I could live with reading every line in silence if that is the way it had to be. Still, I can even now hear the voice of the opening character in Icewind Dale and it gives me a warm feeling and an urge to walk the snowy depths even now. So, truthfully, I believe voice work enhances the experience of an RPG like this if done right, and I think Obsidian of all people can do this right.
  15. I like the old style better. I believe that it adds more tension to combat and more need to plan and have a strategy. I like to think more, and not just click "attack." I don't need regenerating health, I like the idea of health potions, which will hopefully allow one to make their own using a herb-lore/alchemy skill. Making that relevant, and adding another way to distinguish one's character(s).
  16. They need to have a segment on changing diapers and telling the kids to eat their vegetables.
  17. Nice poll, I would especially love to have some sort of draconian species in this game, say like in the old Wizardry games. Forked tongues are not a crime. Sssssssss!
  18. Yes! As long as they can grow it, their beards. And, the women should grow out their underarm hair and fashion them as beards. :D
  19. Give me an actually good well fleshed out manual, and a few tool tips in game, and I will be happy, especially with a well fleshed out manual. In fact, you can cancel any sort of tutorial if I get a fatty manual that I can keep under my head and use as a pillow at night. Since that is not, no doubt, the way of it, tool tips will work, as long as I can disable them later of course. I suppose my real manual will be thick enough to fly away with the breeze after I read it in 10 minuets, at least the birds will have a new friend.
  20. My personal view is: I like getting XP for every orcish skull I cave in. Every time I imagine hearing a sickening crunch, I want to visualize my level up bar getting fuller. With every disembodied pig-nosed head I want to feel my mouse finger getting stronger from the experience. Every last eviscerated corpse I leave in my wake, I want to see "XXX" XP gained in the message bar. And every time I stand triumphant on the mounds of my enemies beneath me I want to yowl in glory, and soak up the XP rays. Yes, and when I defecate, later that night, I want to remember, eyes shining, the glorious experience I have gained that day when so many orcs lost their life blood. That is all that I ever wanted. And that is what I have personally lost. Hold me. Now.
  21. New game plus sounds good, I figure why take options away? I probably wouldn't start over with the same character, but, who knows, if there was a greater challenge, and I really liked the chracter I made, I might just decide to. So why not, I daresay, why not!
  22. On that point I agree, the PC shouldn't have so many falling over him at all. And if one does it should be a slow and gradual build up, at least the actual "loving feeling" part. Unless of course the PC wears a special Armor of Pheromones +2 that makes him irresistible, and all around them insatiable. I wore such armor for some time in my youth, but, I have to tell you now, it got confusing talking to a "companion" about getting it on when the one I just got It on with a minute ago was still getting dressed! And how that armored chaffed too! Well anyways, I agree, I don't want some teenage attempt at love, nor do I want everyone to be hitting on my main character. I doubt our killer-hero will be so dashing as all that. However, I do like the thought of by the end being able to "settle down" in your abode with a certain special dwarf.
  23. YES, the Adventurer's Guild recruiting has my vote too! That is an awesome idea! "Make it so." Please, with a cherry on top. :D
  24. I believe that romance options are important to the game, but, only if it is handled maturely and not all just about "rutting." Adding romantic emotions to the characters should help flesh them out and make them feel more alive, which will help draw one into the world. The more they make the worlds characters like real people, the better, and romance is a big part of what it means to be human.
  25. I have played both kinds of games, and to tell the truth, I think I did enjoy creating my whole party at the start in Icewind Dale better, in most ways. That is only because I gave each member a personality and I wrote in long bio's for each. So they were my team, and I enjoyed walking the snowy depths with them most of all. At the same time, I liked how in Baldur's Gate and Knights of the Old Republic how the companions that join you have their own unique personalities and quirks. Come on, who doesn't love being called a "Meat-Bag" by HK-47? And I can't forget Boo the space-hamster either "Go for the eyes Boo!". I think if those behind Project Eternity can make interesting companions, that give us a lot of input, and even argue among each other, I will be content with just making my main character at the start. Making those companions interesting is of vital importance for the enjoyment of the game though, if the companions are dull and uninteresting, the whole quality of the game will suffer greatly. I think Obsidian knows this.
