PoE and Windows XP
TCJ replied to TCJ's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Thank you for your most helpful reply. I shall have to nominate you as poster of the year. In case anyone is actually interested in providing a helpful reply, aside from XP my computer is sufficient to run the game based on the requirements. XP is the ONLY issue. -
PoE and Windows XP
TCJ posted a question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
So... For awhile everything I read abour PoE said it will run on XP. It will run on XP. It will run on XP. Quite naturally, I'm happy because I have an old computer that uses XP and I would have to do a major overhaul to get a newer operating system running. Namely, I'd have to get a new cpu which means getting a new motherboard (they don't make the old stuff anymore!). Now today I'm browsing PoE on GoG reading a little about it again in anticipation of playing it in the near future -- but what should be looming there except the system requirements: Windows Vista, 7, or 8. What happened to XP? Does anyone have experience running games meant for newer operating systems on older ones? Is it possible? I'm a little miffed and if I can't run it I'd probably be wanting my money back because I'm not really in a position to purchase a new computer right now or in the near future. -
Overflowing with money.
TCJ replied to Karranthain's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
The best game I've played for balance of money is Drakensang 2. If you looted everything, you'd probably have enough money to barely purchase everything in the game, but because it's that close, a little mismanagement in the money or missing some here and there can cost a little. You can still get plenty of equipment, but you might have to skip on a piece of equipment here and there. Every other game I've played I ended up with so much gold I hadn't a clue what to do with it. -
Kickstarter Backer Badge 2
TCJ replied to LadyCrimson's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I backed the game in a group (The Sorcerer's Place) and not individually, so it means I haven't gone through any pledge management process. Does this mean that even though I gave, I can't have a Kickstarter backer icon? If so, it's not a problem. I'm just curious. -
The Official Romance Thread
TCJ replied to Blarghagh's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Personally, I'm of the opinion that adding a romance is a waste of limited resources, so I'm happy that Obsidian decided to not include any. Do I think that's it's possible that they could have written one that adds to role-playing? Probably, but I'm always a skeptic. BG2 wasn't bad (saying all the cruel things to Aerie was fun, but required loading!) in the possibilities, including the extra quests, minor as they may have been. I think playing more upon the added content in new quests directly linked would be essential so it's not solely a few dialogue choices. You might say that I view them more as an introduction to a new adventure. -
Only if the housing bubble can crash in the game, too.

There was a server error which I fixed now but I fear that the last registrations might have not worked. Could you please register again and tell me if you get a confirmation mail now? I registered today, too, and never got the email. But I was told that it was probably manual authentication. I guess that was wrong! I'll go re-register. I just take a look if you are in the system. Edit:You're in the system and I approved your registration now. The setttings tell me that "user-verification per e-mail" is enabled but it seems that admins still have to approve new users.... :/ Well, I'm in. Thanks! The email just doesn't seem to be working. Usually forums will send an email once an admin has manually approved an account, but I've not received that either. On the plus side, this will greatly decrease spambots!

It says the user name is taken.

If they put them in, fine. BG2 had drugs in a minor portion of it just as something to add to a particular setting, but they weren't focused on. I'm okay with the type in Fallout 1, too, that you could use to temporarily boost stats. What I would not like to see is a game with a focus on drugs because I find it uninteresting. Keep them in the background for the most part if they get put in.

I get a little tired of giant this, giant that as a monster, so if giant spiders go away, fine. However, creepy as they may be to some people (I don't particularly like them, though I have no fear of them) I don't see how it could be as much of a problem for someone with arachnophobia as in, say, Dragon Age... a game where you're up closer and everything will be larger on the screen and, thus, more detailed. P:E being an isometric view will not show the spiders as very large (unless Obsidian truly makes some whoppers), especially if you zoom out all the way.

In BG1, the main character needed to be young because of the plot (so elves didn't really make sense), but if the age of the character is no central to the plot, then I see no reason why not to give more freedom in choosing age. I can see how age could affect dialogue and make it more difficult, however, since NPCs might react differently to the PC depending on how old they are. They might call a 20-year old "child" but that would have to change if you're playing an older adventurer.

I'm guessing that there will be more than enough space to add in new quests. After all, I'd think that the developers would tend to go for having extra space that they don't get around to using entirely as opposed to not making enough areas for the content they need. Modders will be able to fill in those spaces.

Time Facebook
TCJ replied to Forber's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The problem with that is if we get to sixteen, then we can get the square root of four. That is much more "even" than multiplying five by three. -
I would also point out that from the smith's perspective, even if such a form-fitting plate could be just as strong as a normal one, it would take a lot more effort and hours of labor to make such a thing.

Typically I will make replies with words, but in this case I think some emoticons will say it best. Then again, perhaps I should spell that out. : Amazed that someone would declare something so absurd to be a fact. : Looking around to see the faces of everyone else present. : Trying to hold back the laughter. : Too funny. Can't stop the laughing. Comedy gold!

For now, once a month is nice --- often enough so we're not in the dark entirely, but space between so the developers aren't spending all their time compiling updates for us. What I would like to see is updates be more frequent as the game nears completion to help build up anticipation of its release.

I think we'll find that one of the levels of the mega dungeon is filled with kitty litter... and giant cats.

8 companions: is it enough?
TCJ replied to RAE's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Don't forget that we'll likely have about two dozen new NPCs modded into the game within a year, so... Make of that what you will. Heh.
