  1. ^^^^ It's wickedly cool that KS projects are willing to show us early alpha demos like this.
  2. The Inside Out Plane As with the Shadow Plane, this realm lives in parallel with our own, albeit in an entirely inverted manner. The realm of the Inside Out is the space traveled by spirits of the elemental earth; it is open where ours is filled by stone and is obstructed where we find air and ocean. The surface of this realm lies just beneath our feet, and it stretches downward like a crystalline ocean in a perpetual twilight of rosy heat. The dwellers in this world gain sustenance from the heat of the inner earth, and thrive in those locales wherein the ground is most active. Hence, volcanoes and geothermal are hotbeds of Inside Out activity, whilst rich old loam and virgin forests form their barren deserts. The inside Out is a place of constant strife where tribes of earth spirits battle over rich resources and mysterious stakes. Their struggles sometimes spill over to create the earthquakes that can split the earth and flatten cities. Travel to the Inside Out plane is not a simple task, as it requires a type of transmogrification understood only by the masters of elemental magic and certain powerful spirit guardians. But once it is achieved, the rewards can be breathtaking. The richest of the earth are at your disposal, requiring only that you find a means to extract it.
  3. Yup, some people like team sports and some like individual sports; it's the same with CRPGs. Besides, I think you're more likely to get a better story with a single-player game.
  4. Here's a clue: those two KS projects started before PE.
  5. I kind of enjoyed exploring the shadow plane in MotB.
  6. Well, you could always try that info@obsidian.net e-mail addy and see if they are open to making an exception.
  7. I don't think it's crazy; just a logical business decision. Some of the pledge levels have a direct impact on what goes into the game, so they would need to wrap that up before starting the next step in the design process. They also need to plan out their budget.
  8. I think you're out of luck unless they release a boxed version commercially. See http://eternity.obsidian.net/.
  9. My understanding is that the number of preset companions is going to be limited so that the game developers can focus more attention on their interactions. The amount of voice-over work is also going to be limited due to budget constraints. But there will be a lot of writing. Lots and lots of writing.
  10. I suppose they could both use the same loopy inter-dimensional kickstart autoconveyor gadget to travel somewhere and leave it a mystery as to where it came from.
  11. 3D printer technology entry level cost is now down to c. $2,000. It would be cool if, at some point in the future, some downloadable models of PE figures became available for use with a home 3D printer. Just a thought... for the future.
  12. ^^^^ Different death screens based upon the path you've taken through the game might be interesting.
  13. To me he's another in a long line of Venezuelan despots. I know he was a champion of the poor, but power, even with the best of intentions, needs to be carefully restrained. As usual, his implementation of dogmatic socialism has screwed up another economy.
  14. Only in North Korea.
  15. Legend holds that a colorful fish, familiarly known as the ancestor fish, may sometimes be seen by an individual who has recently lost somebody precious to them. The story goes that when a solitary mourner is seated beside a calm body of water, the fish may poke its head above the surface and begin to speak with the voice of the one who was lost, attempting to comfort the person or confront them with an uncomfortable truth. Once the exchange has been completed, the fish then sinks under the water and vanishes from sight. Whether this legend is true, or if it is simply a tall tale, remains in question. Some scholars argue that the spirits of those who have suffered a horrific end may linger nearby for some time afterward. The fish is then provided by a deity as a means for the spirit to communicate with the living, in order to ease the spirit into its next cycle of existence. Regardless, the desperate mournful may sometimes seek solace along the calm shores of a calm pool, hoping for a kind word from the ancestor fish. Pools of water where said fish are claimed to put in an appearance may take on an elevated status in the local community.
  16. A suggestion I made earlier was to be able to buy an arrow "inventory" item representing a "stack of identical arrows" that effectively gets replenished from your infinite stash. The item has a "cool down" that simulates running out of your current stock. The item is similar to purchasing a lifetime supply of arrows; the merchant is gambling that the adventurer will die before they have used up more value in arrows than the supply is worth. For example, you may spend 500 g.p. to license an infinite supply of ordinary arrows. Yeah it's not a perfect solution, but it may be much easier to manage the arrow supply this way.
  17. Not really much new there, but it's good to hear that they're still on schedule.
  18. Wait a minute, she almost has it figured out...
  19. ^^^ Aye, well it didn't seem like that thread was for combat (weapon/armor) items.
  20. I'd rather not see magic gadgets that break the fourth plane; i.e. those that make reference to items from our modern world and period.
  21. Because I'm in the mood... Hammer of Gravitas -- Induces the struck opponent to focus all of their combat energy on the wielder, preventing a switch in engagement slots to other characters for one or more rounds. Makes a deep booming sound on contact, possibly alerting other nearby enemies. Robe of Recoil -- If an opponent strikes you with a melee weapon, a potent magical force hurls them back out of engagement range. Has been known to malfunction from time to time, knocking somebody away for no apparent reason. Circlet of Lucidity -- Protects against any magical effects that would reduce mental acuity, whether intelligence, perception, or social skills. Wearer may find themselves exceedingly bored during even the briefest lecture. Helm of Te Deum -- Your ears are filled with mind-numbingly positive words of encouragement. This wards against effects that would lower your morale, but also reduces your listening score. Has been known to drive some to madness.
  22. More thoughts: Enemy forces that are magically gated in to deal with the PC interloper. A talking guard door that you can convince to come and guard your stronghold's treasure room. Rare potions that can cure magic-resistant diseases. An ancient network of portals connected together by an extra-dimensional road. A diplomacy pen that translates your words into another language. A mage that has teleported himself part way into a wall and is begging for help. A magical fountain that causes intense thirst, and a victim who can't stop drinking from it. Wizard's underground lair where the tunnels are longer in one direction than the other. Magical henge crackling with mysterious forces. The site of an ancient magical battle that has left the ground tortured and the surroundings distorted. Levitation rings that allow an archer to fire down from above, reducing the concealment advantage provided by cover. A magical tail that you can equip with a small weapon for an extra attack.[1] Seemingly weak predatory creatures that can magically change their size, becoming more powerful and dangerous. 1) In fact, just having an extra slot that you can equip with an oddball item would be nice: toe ring, extra eyeball, a tail, nipple ring, ... you name it.
  23. I didn't mind the Threat mechanics; it was the 'run around and skirmish' nature of combat that didn't work for me. There just wasn't much of a meaningful tactical flavor to it.
