  1. Perhaps it's just me, but the zombie gaming market seems overly saturated right now. It seems like the undead tropes are getting a little stale... or else I'm jaded.
  2. To make up for the U.S.'s pathetically poor education system that starts off a year late and skips three months every summer, we'll add two more years of catchup at the end.
  3. I'd like to see the pool of Wizard spells include various force effects. In some respects, these can play the role of summoned creatures as they tie up opponents and prevent them from impacting party members. The effects could even manifest themselves visually as a vaguely creature-like form. But they would be unique to this class because they would be limited in their engagement abilities and wouldn't have the same types of attacks and defenses as summoned creatures.
  4. Not diminishing returns; a cap. Once you've killed enough critters of a particular type, you know everything there is to know about killing them and don't get any more XP for them. Also, no XP for killing people (=not beasts or monsters). Essentially, this is what happens in D&D; or at least in D&D v3.5. As you go up in level, you get diminishing amounts of XP for slaying lower CR creatures. Eventually it becomes pointless XP-wise to seek out and engage weaker foes.
  5. Does anybody know if there is going to be Training XP? I.e. use the loot to buy training from a master.
  6. That might be the case since they likely require another set of animations. Perhaps they will make an appearance in the sequel?
  7. D&D Wizards were the swiss army knife of spell casters. Per illathid, PoE tones that down and narrows the focus so that Wizards now seem to have more of a purely artillery role. That certainly would seem to make them less interesting to play.
  8. Boots of Speed Dating... now with built-in heelys.
  9. I think we can expect this a lot in the future. People are accustom to getting XP for fighting. Seems to be pretty traditional in games. Players will have a hard timne understanding that there is at theoretically a non-combat path and the devs have tried to balance this. It's classic Pavlovian conditioning: kill the monster; the bell rings and you get a treat. Some experienced players may have a hard time getting past that. In addition to replacing this with the monster lore XP, the game could reward the player with random comments from NPCs. "Ooh, I just love a skilled bandersnatch slayer!"
  10. There is no God. God is a comedian, playing to an audience too afraid to laugh.
  11. Scarlett Johansson has been signed for a Ghost in the Shell film by Dreamworks.
  12. To me, ToB seemed very grindy; more like the Icewind Dale series than the prior BG titles.
  13. My wife and I were happy for twenty years. Then we met. --Rodney Dangerfield
  14. If they'd sold physics to us this way at school ...I'd have spent a lot of loose cash in dimly lit physics laboratories by now. Friction, elastic collisions, pendulums, momentum, inertia, optics, and pure electricity. It's all there, man. A day late for Newton's birthday, but so it goes.
  15. What a dreadful, horrid year. Who is going to save the industry from all the new trolls?
  16. Ah, just think what would happen if the bonus Kickstarter item was the only means to unlock the special, unique ending? The one they talk about for years because it was such a fantastic piece of work. This could lead to rioting in the streets. Fux News would start talking about the decaying morals of America's video gaming players. They might even have to call out the national guard. Oh my, this is worrisome.
  17. I woke up this morning, got dressed for work, and drove into the office. Hmm, there's nobody in the parking lot. What a bunch of slackers! Wait, what? Yeah, you guessed it: my calendar was messed up. So it's back home to relax. Woo-hoo! Merry Christmas, everybody! :)
  18. Yes, there are people who won't even play BG2 because they don't like how it looks. Their loss.
  19. Pirates aren't exactly digging deep to "justify" their actions... all to masquerade the real thruth... they just dont want to pay for someone else's hard work. Any excuse made otherwise is just that, an excuse. If it's not this kickstarter thing it will be something else, always an 'excuse'... Right, but it's not "promoting" piracy, any more than any other add-on component. The argument I read goes like this: there's an exclusive item only available to some buyers; ergo this promotes piracy; hence there should be no exclusive items. It's nonsense.
  20. A free potion for Kickstarter participants promotes piracy? Does everybody have to employ hyperbole these days just to make a trivial point?
  21. Mildly amusing thread this. Almost as daft as the film is sure to be.
  22. Pretty sure they always said that was the plan. I'm not sure how tightly the graphical style is tied into the engine though as I personally too wouldn't mind a more "realistic" art style (that said, D:OS graphics worker perfectly fine for the game, even though I had my reservations at first). I always appreciate how Swen just throws his ideas out there, few game developers are as open as Larian about what's going on on the inside and I really appreciate that. The one element I don't like about the D:OS engine is how it limits your panning ability. It felt awkward to be constantly fiddling with the direction trying to get a decent look at the scene.
