PoE at GDC 2014?
Bryy replied to Merlkir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Kickstarter will never be able to do an MMO. -
That would be such an amazingly fun manpower budgeting software solution! You input the specs on all your employees, and it builds them into Tetris shapes. If you can't clear the lines before your shape-ployees hit the top, then it's not gonna work. I was really hoping Game Dev Tycoon would be like this. It wasn't.

Fair representation in media, you say? What a horrible idea. They are just video games.

I'm playing work.

You do realize that the game's message would not be literally that coming out to your squadmates makes everyone fight better?
-
I think any Pirate or Fed quests would ruin the Assumed jab at branching story.

Varric is my persuade option. And I loved Zevran. On every speed-run, though, I'd kill him. My record through Origins is 7 hours.

Fenris was a great character with a horrible arc. He had so much potential and they just didn't do anything with it.

You honestly don't see the fantastic structure in a game where your unit fights better the more tolerant they are? That's a fantastic blend of narrative and storytelling. In other news, EA is out of the runnings for Worst Company because apparently people woke up.

Oh please. That's a GREAT design. I'd play the crud out of that game.

Uh... as I previously stated, Paradox is in Sweden, which is not in the US. I'm not sure if you thought it was, but it isn't. So Obsidian has given marketing duties to a company outside of the U.S.. But what does the company location have to do with altering the details of the kickstarter? Ah, sorry, I read that wrong. I was sure there was a Paradox Austin.

The Drunk Alistair cameo in DA2 was fantastic.

I can. I would have liked to have seen Obsidian partner with CD Projekt RED as a publisher myself. That's the only game publisher/developer in the world I have faith in aside from Obsidian at this point. And they head up GoG.com which would have been perfect I would think given so many want a gog version of PE available and one is promised. I'm actually curious as to why they didn't go with CD Projekt RED, as I imagine they must have been considered and there is communication between the companies anyways due to Obsidian having products on GoG and planning to have more. Two years ago I would have been happy Paradox was the publisher as well, but over the last two years (especially this last one) they've near completely lost me as a fan for reasons stated by some in this thread and others. That said, perhaps they can redeem themselves to me. I'm hopeful but doubtful. And Paradox saying they are anti-DRM at this point holds as much water as your average politician promising you X, because they do use DRM these days. They talk the talk but don't walk the walk, they used to yes, but no longer. Requiring that third party software be installed on your computer to activate/install, patch, and use some features of your software is DRM, anyone thinking otherwise fundamentally doesn't understand what DRM is. I can think of two reasons: 1) I highly doubt CDP wants to work on anyone else's games at this point. 2) They're in Poland. Just because CDP makes good games as well does not mean they are automatically a perfect fit.

This. And the fact that they totally rewrote his personality between Awakening and DA2. He was my favorite companion in the expansion: Yeah, yeah. I know Gaider defended the rewrite as his own idea and stuff. And as a concept for character development, it's original and interesting. But it was a hack job; DA2 Anders just comes off as annoying, petty and whiny. Certainly not what one would expect from a powerful mage that is both the victim of constant unjust persecution and possession by a spirit of justice. The new voice actor didn't help either. Merging Anders and Justice was a nice loophole, but ultimately they didn't fully commit to the idea. It wasn't a retcon or a rewrite, he was simply two different characters.

Issues with NPC/Item Surveys
Bryy replied to AlphaWhelp's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
And 7 nights. But seriously, why is the deadline a big deal? Or are you expecting feedback the next day? Cause I'm certainly not. Debating my Bat boomerang is pointless and I expect it implemented already. Because no backer left behind. I'm sure there will be another update telling people 'chop, chop' before the 31st. -
Judging by what Fox News has been saying about him, yup. When you are saying on national TV that Putin is a better leader than Obama because he wants to kill everyone and Obama doesn't...

The Dev Commentary in PoE
Bryy replied to Falkon Swiftblade's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No idea how those two did it. But it's your basic "Press Q for commentary" thing that you get in various sections, only the commentaries are fantastic and wonderfully in-depth. They are technical, but they still are full of life. -
You guys are going to be the death of me.

I'm pretty sure Anders will be in it, since letting him live was a HUGE option in DA2. Sure, let's make the terrorist, gay, apostate, possessed mage a recurring character. Good role models are overrated in my opinion. I don't know if you're serious or not.
