  1. And by cons, I'm more specifically talking in this initial post about WonderCon, which is taking place in Anaheim and is in a week and a half. http://www.comic-con.org/wca And, of course, with San Diego Comic-Con comning just 'round the bend. Anyone going to either?
  2. That's beautiful, and then you notice the trees are cut off at the water. But beautiful.
  3. That being said, the whole 'madness from incomprehensible things' angle is one of the things people usually cling to because they are afraid of leaving traditional Lovecraft jank behind. I read an unproduced screenplay that had the main character go insane not because Cthulhu was so... weird... but because it opened the floodgates to anything being real. I really abhor all of the crud authors write just because they are afraid of fanboys.
  4. If this really happened, you are my hero. I was only kidding of course. They loved my boomerang! So much that boomerangs are now a new weapon in the game! Are you serious about this?
  5. It is clearly two cats tied to each other, spinning in beauty and fury.
  6. Universe mystery types of things or horrible reality of the world and the eldrich horrors that slumber below types of things?
  7. Agreed. Say what you will about it being "dumbed down", it friggin' worked.
  8. I assume more than half of the people that backed have never played an IE game. Okay, possibly a little less. Hell, my first IE game was Torment back in '98.
  9. Considering he was in loading screens, it's a pretty safe bet.
  10. At first, I broke a bottle but then taped it back together.
  11. Everyone needs to stop saying Torment was a horrible game before I explode into a million blobs.
  12. I, too, would enjoy an Obsidian-bred space saga set in San Francisco.
  13. Yeah, innovation is just another word for 'we hate our audience'! What I personally meant was that lots of people think being original or different automatically makes something great while forgetting the importance of execution. Way to kill the joke, C2B.
  14. http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/21npjc/oculus_didnt_expect_such_a_negative_reaction_to/cgf2htj Death threats now. Against their families.
  15. "Still feels a bit feminine" had me in stitches.
  16. Yes, that has RPG elements, too. I'd go as far as to say it is more RPG than FPS. But once again, you're not making a very good case (or any case) besides "I don't like it so it's not". Which is all good and fine, but for some reason you seem to want to "win the argument". What I intended for my case to be is "these two games that we can agree are not RPGs (TF2 and Bioshock) are considered RPGs under the definition proposed by Piccolo. Thus, his definition is not valid." Sorry if I did not make that clear enough. What does it matter what his definition is? It's his opinion. Is there a reason why you need to prove that his opinion is invalid? Genre and subgenre are hard. There's no real line between them anymore. Hell, Madden has an RPG mode.
  17. I don't even know what to think anymore! It really is terrible. Each installment in the Elder Scrolls series has improved on many aspects of the previous one. Pretty much this. Oblivion was just a tech demo for Skyrim (which is actually their best TES game, but still a horrible game).

  19. I got out of my writer's block. Sort of.
  20. To add to my earlier snark with non-snark: It's not apologizing to say how your game is different. Josh has made it pretty clear that this game will be different in both atmosphere and gameplay. It's not apologizing to talk about how your game is accessible. It's talking about your game. Marketing your game is not "defending". People want to know what sets your game apart from the rest, and it's not apologizing to talk about any of that. Why would they apologize for making a game? Yes, we funded $4.5m for this game; but at the end of the day, Obsidian has to be proud of the product they made. It has to satisfy them.
  21. Yes, those are RPG elements. But those are not the primary styles of gameplay.
