  1. Never heard of it. Are they actually voice actors or is this a Felicia Day type promo stunt? They've all been doing VA for ages. Most of the cast members have a decade or so of VA on their resume. Ah, ok. Just looked them up. Well that's something, at least. Still, it feels like a very overhyped and niche announcement. They could have at least had a series of videos where they talk about their characters or something for those of us who had no idea who they are.

  3. http://zaumstudio.com/ Disco Elysium, formerly known as No Truce With the Furies (I kinda enjoyed the previous title, but still looks interesting). Yeah, I've been keeping an eye on that and I'm interested but a bit baffled. Like I can't tell exactly what the setting is intended to be, whether it's supposed to be serious or comical, whether we can actually make our own character etc.
  4. I was really not a fan of the POE soundtrack on the whole (it felt very derivative and the combat music was really dated) but it's simple to swap out with tracks of your own choice (I particularly enjoyed having 'Needle' from the GOT soundtrack playing in Defiance Bay). I'm assuming Deadfire will be just as simple, but I'm expecting a more interesting soundtrack based on the more exotic setting anyway so I'll give it a go first. And as already stated, dynamic combat music that builds or changes depending on enemy type would help.
  5. As with any feature, I'd like it if I felt like the world and/or characters reacted to it. Like instead of having dozens of different creatures there were just two or three and they kind of became a staple of your keep with all of the companions having a few dialogues and interactions with them or anecdotes about their behaviour. Without that it's just pointless cosmetic fluff.
  6. I'm going to admit to being very basic here and say that I'm looking for something that plays more flashy and action oriented with not too much micromanaging and was wondering if anyone had any good advice for what feels fun in that regard. I'm committed to Skald as my first class choice and I feel like rogue would be fun to play as my second class but I'd prefer wizard or druid for roleplay dialogues and such so I'm conflicted. Is there a way to take wizard or druid and keep them fairly passive in a way that effectively synchronises with a melee based chanter or am I better off just going with a rogue?
  7. Generally quests which involve a lot of roleplaying dialogue/persuasion and intrigue mechanics while being minimal on combat stick with me. The winter palace from DAI, the brotherhood quest in Oblivion where you bump off all the other guests, pretty much the entirety of Mass Effect: Citadel. Also the quest to find Virgil after he leaves your group in Arcanum using the clues from his actions and backstory and the same with Magnus and his lost clan, Glory's personal mission in Shadowrun: Dragonfall, almost all of the side quests in VTM:B... In general as far as side quests go, if they're going to continue to be a part of the core roleplaying game makeup, writers need to set themselves a series of rules to abide by when creating them ie: 1. Does it allow for the player character to enhance their roleplay story or show their skills/background through dialogue choices? 2. Does it reveal something new about an important character/companion or some interesting new lore about the world? 3. Does it involve a unique mechanic? 4. Does it show the effects of current events in the main plot on the world in ways that might otherwise go unexplored? 5. Does it not require mental roleplaying gymnastics for the player to justify why their character would stop to do this given whatever is going on in the main plot? Etcetera. If the answer isn't yes to at least two of those questions, then it shouldn't be in the game.
  8. I kind of got the creeping impression that, with the setting and story, the writers WANTED to do something more unique but were afraid of offending all the people clamouring for Baldurs Gate 2: The ReBalduring and it resulted in a fairly bland locational choice and low key, somewhat indistinct culture and design choices. The games story shone with things like the Dunryd Row stuff and the Asylum mission (both reminded me a little of Arcanum) but it would always slip back into something more generic just as it was getting interesting. I'm thinking (and hoping) that now the IP is established and seemingly doing well as it's own beast that further content will be more creatively daring. Disclaimer: I played BG2 years after it's release after endless claims that it's the best RPG ever. I disagree.
  9. The artist has posted these here so that anyone who wants can crop the pictures for their own personal use. She probably doesn't want them to end up uncredited in a big portrait pack, which is totally reasonable. The hostile response is really foul and uncomfortable.
  10. Does it look like it's possible to use the console to create a kind of hybrid class? Druid suits my RP more but the chanter abilities are so darn cool.
  11. Your character(s) think so about Paladins b/c they can't picture others doing stuff not for personal gain, which is a hard truth, but in a fantasy game one may dream :D everyone does what he does for personal gain one way or the other. one type of modern day paladins are the soldiers of ISIS. do you think they have a higher just cause? the cause is just a hypocritical excuse their leaders (who do it for money and power) use. the average soldiers do what they do because they have been promished a place in heaven as a reward... the cause is an illusion to make the promise of reward more believable a guy who does volunteer work, does it for self satisfaction. he does not feel like it is a duty of some sort that is forced upon him, he draws pleasure from it just like a masochist draws pleasure from pain (and if the volunteer is a rich guy, he probably does it for publicity) Ok, I know it's off topic but I have to tackle this opinion because I feel very strongly about it. So you're saying when I go volunteering and it makes me happy to help out other people, that is somehow a bad and selfish thing? Would it be somehow more genuine if I did it even though I thought it was a slog and it made me totally miserable? I understand the point you're trying to make. The problem is it's a bad point TO make, because it attempts to invalidate any act of kindness for the sake of bitter cynicism. And in regards to taking pleasure in attempting to shatter the idealism of passionate, caring people for the sake of being 'right'...well, that's plain awful. It seems like you're trying to justify your own morality by projecting your negativity on those that possess traits you don't have.
  12. Are there going to be more godlike variants available in the finished game than in the beta? I was hoping to play a godlike with an aspect of Wael or Eothas.
  13. On the off chance someone has a beta key they don't want, I'd also love to have one.
  14. Absolutely. I'd much rather go the quality over quantity route. And eight isn't exactly a paltry amount to begin with.
  15. Huh. Well, I mostly play games for story and character progression so the fact that I could just choose 'harm' at the start of the game and breeze through most battles was probably a point in Arcanums favour for me. I can see how that is a problem for other people but it's still well worth playing.
  16. When it was said that he WOULD play Arcanum I simply assumed that meant a full, proper play through. Anything less than, at least, the main quest line would be a total cop-out.
  17. Upped my pledge $8. Woe is my bank balance. From this day forth I would like to be known as 'Progressive_Stupidity, Snarky Shaman of the Obsidian Order'
  18. At this point I'd like to see a 3.6 stretch goal of more character portraits/a more diverse range of portraits for each companion showing a different facial expression or emotion to bring more life to their conversations.
  19. 2.8 - Romances (though it's obviously controversial so I don't know if that would backfire or not) 3.0 - Class/race specific origin stories ala Dragon Age. Perhaps optional for those who would rather fully make up their own background. 3.5 - A massive new region with accompanying quests, items, enemies and NPC's.
  20. Ecstatic about mod support confirmation :D As far as pets, in a fantasy world it's more feasible to go for something a bit more exotic than a dog so my preferences would be some sort of tiny dragon or a bird of prey.
