  1. i think you have a wrong impression of a bow as a weapon here bows are compared to other firearms of the late medieval area the weapon that has the least punch bows have very different advatages: - by far the fastest ranged weapon, you can fire like 20 arrows in the time it takes you to fire a single bolt from a crossbow or bullet from a musket of that time-period - large range while still being very accurate yes, a bow should be the strongest ranged weapon by far, but for those reasons, not for the punch it deals if you want to do it the realistic way though, a character would have to invest, let's say 20 skill points to learn basic skills with a bow where it would take him 1 skill point to master a crossbow it's hard to simulate in a video game the fact that you need to train shooting with a bow for half your life, while every peasant can learn how to shoot a crossbow in like no time btw, isn't the japanese yumi rather known for being poor in comparison to european bows?
  2. people tend to overreact... a lot and they tend to only see black and white, as usual, it's either eternal doom or heaven with every single decision i can't say how much i agree with the OP
  3. They will not be. Dark elves are an old concept, but the dark-skinned "drow" are a Gygax invention. We have a few elven subraces, some of which will seem more familiar than others. In addition to the subraces, there is significant cultural division between separate groups even within one subrace. The elves that came across the sea with their human allies to settle in the Dyrwood encountered Glanfathan elves that looked almost identical to them, physically, but spoke a completely dissimilar language, dressed differently, had different values and customs, and lived virtually at a Stone Age level of technology -- all this despite abundant evidence that an ancient empire once stood around them. As a result, the elves who settled in the Dyrwood tend to feel much more kinship toward human neighbors, with whom they share a language and hundreds of years of coexistence, than the Glanfathans. i like how every single post mr. sawyer makes on this forum has this very special aura of assurance you know this "we have thougt of it a lot and intend to do it right" feeling btw, can't help it, this post screams Dragon Age into my face :D
  4. i hope there will be a cheat to have more than the max number like in neverwinter nights 2 all the characters in MotB are so great, i simply can't leave someone behind :D
  5. all those IWD2 portraits are so great you look at them and almost instantly have a character in mind with a certain personality and a backstory that fits the portrait really inspiring far superior to the baldurs gate ones in my humble opinion (the portraits in neverwinter nights 1 are outright ugly!) but i liked the dwarven ranger very much too, so i'm confident obsidian will have some great portraits even without mr. sweet
  6. theres like 234123515 games with dark elfs, certainly not a licence problem they said they will include sub races, didn't they? and there are going to be elfs i guess chances are good enough that you will see dark elfs
  7. javelins and one handed spears for a change probably the most used weapons in human history, but absent in almost every game
  8. only two things really: - the usual obsidian camera (there's hope, maybe an isometric game will have a decent camera for once) - super hard end bosses that are like 3 time as hard as any other enemy, icewind dale bosses were ok, neverwinter nights 2 was NOT
  9. i still hope the class concept will be flexible enough to make multi classing unnecessary like in: your class choice only sets a basic set of skills, but after that you are able to develop your character in any direction you like mage in plate armour and swinging a huge 2handed axe? here you go!
  10. random encounters are one of the most stupid things ever introduced to video games simply
  11. Fair enough, I didn't know credit cards are less common in Germany. less comon is quite an understatement of all the people i know i coudn't think of a single person who has got one (including myself) in total less than 25% of the population have got one, maybe more among people interested in this game, since they are younger than the average german
  12. i loved how it was done in alpha protocol if you started out as the "recruit" class in your first playthrough, you could unlock the "veteran" class and had some new dialog options because people asumed you are a battle hardened guy - quite well done if you ask me
  13. how's that one: Age of Eternity: No sleep for the Watcher i kinda like it that way
  14. we have a winner! this is exactly how the game should be named!
  15. Eternity is good enough for me possible subtitle: no sleep for the Watcher :D
  16. skill system all the way i really like how it works in WoD - but i think you should not get xp to spend on points, but rather increase your skills if you do certain things in game e.g. talking out of a situation = get skill increase in talking killing a enemy with a sword = get sword increase, not on every enemy but on certain points in the game
  17. 24, my favorite RPGs are Mass Effect 1-3, Dragon Age 2, and Neverwinter 2 with addons (especially MotB of course) and Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption (never liked Bloodlines that much, it's awesome as long as you are in Santa Monica, but after that...) if i'm not playing RPGs I love my Total War and Freespace games
  18. there really should be an option to create a full party it is easy to implement and will make some people happy
  19. i agree very much, hide the numbers! i always end up playing in a way where i try to get the highest score with everyone - i just can't resist the numbers away with them! let us _feel_ the reaction of the guy, don't show us the numerical equivalent!
  20. Chris, of all the obsidian guys it is you who i wish the most luck for making this game the companions are the thing that will make or break this game more than any other keep on rockin' !
  21. i agree with what has been said here oh how much i liked this in titan quest!
  22. I don't care much if classes or specializations are few or many, to be honest. I just hope they are going to be highly differentiated. What they wear, what weapons they use, what special abilities they can learn. I really want to feel the difference. and i hope for the exact opposite :D have it without classes but instead every character can learn every skill (as long as the lore and logic supports it) but i guess you'll win in the end
