  1. In objective based experience systems player/s get xp when player/s do something that makes gamemaster or developers in case of crpgs feel that player/s should be awarded xp. Which often means that there isn't necessary any locked logic behind xp gain, but instead xp is awarded usually more to support gamemaster's/developers' story telling and intended game flow.
  2. http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/08/15/dragon-age-inquisition-is-over-200-hours-long# So shortest route is 20-30 hours, but if you plan to complete everything then it will take over 200 hours. That is quite lot of optional content.
  3. They said in one of the demos that enemies are in beta especially beetles are set to be quite difficult and they probably will make adjustments on them in final game depending on feedback about beta. And before you start bash paladin you should note that area in game is from middle game, and in demos paladin only has her starting gear that is meant for first level characters, where other party members have better gear. And they used cheesy combat tactics against ogre by holding it and killing it from distance, in which paladin couldn't have very active role because of lack of ranged weapon, but it should be noted that it is quite probable that cheesy tactic would work much less effective without paladins aura buffs that added damage and change to to hit for rest of the party. So she was far from useless in that fight. And they had only very limited time for each demo, which meant that they used quite similar tactics in every demo after the first where Adam's parties were wiped out. But anyway on Monday we will get hands on experience on how combat will work, so then we can say sure how combat actually feels and works and how different classes will fare.
  4. As did Torment? Sheena Easton was Anna, for crying out loud. And Jennifer Hale voiced Fall-from-Grace and Deionarra Broken Age has top tier actors voicing it, so it isn't impossible for Obsidian to hire such talents to voice PoE if they want. If OE does this, I hope they will do so sparingly, and where it really counts. They are plenty of top rate voice actors who aren't "top tier" and so you get an awesome result for a much lower cost. Gotta be frugal with that 4M. Cost depends lot of how many line they will voice. With quite few lines cost difference between top tier and not so top tier actors is quite small as most of the cost will come from other payments, like studio rental and editing.
  5. But why there were police officers geared as they are in that last picture? As I can say for sure that there were zero polices in such gear in that riot that I mentioned my previous post or any other riots that there has been in Finland that I know and it is not because of that Finnish police don't have such equipment in their use.

  7. Maybe they don't want answer questions sent in support through weekend, but instead have couple days off and there also several core members of PoE's team are in Gamescom in Germany presenting game, which probably means that they don't want release beta until they are back.
  8. Yeah, this is more gear that I expect when I hear words riot police, instead of assault rifles and armored vehicles. Picture is from riot in city named Tampere, here in Finland last winter when hundreds of rioters tried to invade to our president's independent day celebrations in building behind police line.
  9. What does "casuals" even means, and why wouldn't they be interested in PoE? The average RPG player probably hasn't changed much in the last 15 years or so, it's the games that changed. Give a "casual RPG player" a good RPG and they will enjoy it as much as an "old school RPG player" would. Fanbase of DA games is pretty big. And some of those people will indeed enjoy PoE. I just have this feeling, that the "core" crowd concists of people that just like a non frustrating adventure and are really into "immersive" stuff like romances, cool cinematics with voice overs etc. PoE is supposed to be a decent challenge difficulty wise, that may scare them away. I didn't play DA2 so I cant comment on how hard it was. I still think that for many people isometric viewpoint with prerenders is a no-no. Someone commented that gamers who enjoyed the IE games moved away to different type of games instead of playing the newer ones. I feel this is pretty much spot on. If you put PoE in easy settings I am quite sure that it will not be too much challenge to anybody who has played DA:O through and like it so much that they can be called as fans. And I don't think that anybody that played DA:O on PC and like it will say that isometric viewpoint is no-no and I think most of them would get over prerendered backgrounds (or more specifically over the fact that you can't turn the camera). If PoE story is as compelling as I hope it will be, then I would say that most fans of DA:O will also like PoE. Biggest problem is to get those fans try it in first place.
  10. Dragon Age group is interested on stories and have show ability to follow through 60+ hours of story driven content, which is something that players from most other genres aren't used. So I would say that it is for them easier to embrace more complex game mechanics, than it would be many players with more complex game mechanics to follow through 60+ hours of story, when they have used to smaller memory loads, even if they play games of their choosing hundreds or thousands of hours.
  11. Focus on MOBAs is in competitive co-operative multiplayer. They usually have strategic layer where it is important to select right characters for you team so that they work against characters in opposite team and they usually also offer ability to ban certain number characters from selection pool, which means that you need to know how to play multiple character to actually be successful in the game. And banning right characters is also quite important strategic aspect as it gives your team ability to remove some character's from the selection pool that are more difficulty handle by characters that your team know how to play. MOBAs also have tactical layer, where it is important to know when your team should farm (usually killing some sort constantly pawning minions), take environmental bonuses (usually by killing neutral monsters), when to ambush try enemies, when to go in team fights. And then there is personal skill layer, which consist from players understanding how character's skills work and how they can be combined, especially with skills of other characters, how to move, knowledge when you should engage with enemies and when to run, how to build your character especially taking in considering what characters and builds player/s on your line in opposite team have. So there are some aspects in MOBAs that are similar to some aspects in PoE, but I would say that main hook in is different, but that don't mean that there isn't players that like PoE and MOBAs (it should be noted that all players that like one MOBA don't necessary like [all] other MOBAs) both. My opinion to OP's point is that even though MOBA players are numerous, I would focus main marketing efforts on players some other games, like players of bigger single player focused games.
  12. I though they said victim was stopped because officer wanted ask questions about robbery that happened bit earlier that day. In police report by officer that shot victim, which was written after victim was shot he says that "After viewing brown and reviewing this video, I was able to confirm that Brown is the primary suspect in this incident,". It should also noted that authorities have previously said that a scuffle ensued after the officer asked the teens to move to the side and that witnesses of shooting tell different story to both of these narratives. So there seems to be lots of narratives about incident, but they all end to situation where armed police officer shot unarmed kid several times until he died.
  13. Mass Effects are action rpgs where you don't get xp from combat Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines is very combat oriented rpg, which don't have xp from combat.
  14. Some would say having a world where generic fantasy races are mixed with primarily new races is more creative than not. Eora and Numenera have very different goals as settings. Eora is settings that tries to give you feeling of familiarity, but same time offering new things to discover and change perspective in some old views, where Numenera tries to change very familiar setting (Earth) to alien world where you find something strange and intriguing from every corner you look at. Both settings need lots of creativity and brilliant writing to actually work and both have their strengths and weaknesses when you try to sell them to people.
  15. Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity and Torment: Tides of Numenera, where all such high success mostly because of the people that run those campaigns. Of course nostalgia from games that those people had done in the past helped, but if it would had been some other people that said they want to do successors for those games, then I am pretty sure that campaigns wouldn't seen similar success.
  16. I usually put characters in 1-6 and quick slots, skills, spells, etc. in qwerty or qwertasdfg-keys, if character isn't controller wasd(qe)-keys. Which gives me ability control most important things with my left hand moving it only little.
  17. Areas in beta are optional side content for the game which you get access about half way of main story. There is plenty other side content areas, which means that game will with high probability take 60+ hours to finish if you do most of the side content. Max level in game is 12, as mentioned previously and it is said that you can't reach that level if you don't do side content areas. You probably should specify why character creation looks crap, so that there is at least some chance that Obsidian will make changes on it to make it less crap looking for you.
  18. Custom key bindings is thing that has very little change not to exist in the game. But macro bindings are feature that I would say has much lower chance to be find in the game especially when we speak about custom macros.
  19. In real-time games, game time progresses continuously according to the game clock. Players perform actions simultaneously as opposed to in sequential units or turns. In turn-based games, game flow is partitioned into well-defined and visible parts, called turns.
  20. There is AI in the game at least on some level as enemies move and attack player's party, but they probably didn't put party AI in or on for the demo, because it isn't finished or they felt that it could hinder presentation.
  21. Implementing turn-based system in this state of development addition to RTwP is something that this project don't have enough resources. Although solution what you propose isn't turn-based system, but auto pause. And I would point out that game isn't turn-based in anyways, even same sense what IE games were, as it uses timed actions instead of combat rounds. Game don't currently have command queue, but your character's should auto attack enemies after they have executed your command, but that was not activated or it didn't work in shown demo build. And at least in release version there should be quite lot of auto pause options which you can select ones that you feel work best with your play style.
  22. I know , but there is also other days than Fridays and Tuesdays that are retail release days in Europe and USA, so I didn't think that it would make bet invalid.
  23. My guess is that they will make it so that it is out 6th of December to solemnize Finland's Independence
  24. Thank you for posting that, the cosmetic pet part was fun, wondering if the special kickstarter item is a pet now. I don't think so as there was also "Kickstarter Exclusive In-Game Pet" for all backers that backed tiers $50+.
