  1. Question is more should game reward player for grinding not is it necessary to grind to win the game.

By looking files, one can find lots some quest have been cut out from beta that should be in those areas that beta has and some quest and conversations have been altered so that they don't reference content outside of beta, which has remove some ways to complete some of the quests and restricted access on alternative quests.
  3. Et tu, Obsidian? It can't be that expensive to get proper voice actors. Heck, inXile got Duke Nukem to voice General Vargas, and he has a hell of a lot more lines too. She is proper voice actor (meaning that she claims that to be her profession)
  4. Mm. Part of the reason I started to think about it was because most of the conversation options require 14 in a stat, and if you actually invest evenly, you get 13 all around. Base on beta I would say that stat lines that are something like 12 12 12 14 14 14 or 10 12 12 14 14 16 or 10 10 12 14 16 16 or 10 10 10 16 16 16 distributed in stats in way that you feel that best describes your character, will give you largest pool of options, especially when you take account rest and item bonuses.

  6. In my opinion current system encourages more to everything about average as then you have more conversation and event screen options open to you and efficiency difference to maxed stat is minimal.
  7. Melee engagement system is to way give crowd control abilities to your melee characters. Which will lessen importance of pure crowd control classes like wizards and druids. Obsidian didn't want to go agro threat system route that many MMOs use to do same thing, but instead create system where positioning your melee characters has much more importance. Default build for fighter in PoE is low maintenance front line melee tank that is best in passive crowd control from the all the melee classes, but in final version of the game this should not be only build that you can make of them, because one purpose of backer beta is to determine what kind talents fighters need to work in other roles. Same default role ideology goes for all the classes in PoE and same idea that player should be able to change role that class plays by picking talents.
  8. Health is strategic resource which purpose is to pace player's adventure time by forcing them to rest when player's characters health starts to get closer zero. This need to rest is added with per day abilities and characters' exhaustion status which causes them to get several minuses in their stats, exhaustion status is controlled by athletics skill. Addition to these there is unlimited stash inventory that can be accessed only during resting and places that developers are marked as safe (inns, shops, stronghold, etc.) To prevent players to abuse rest system game has limited camping supply resource which limits player's ability to rest in the woods addition to this inns and player's stronghold offer rest bonuses that last until next rest. There was also plans that resting can be done only in specific places but it seems that is removed. Stamina is tactical health resource which purpose is to add intensity in fights and make it possible to characters to be knocked out fight without them being death or removing strategic use of health resource, like for example in NWN2 did. Because stamina is meant to be tactical resource characters will lose it much faster than they lose health, but as it is per encounter resource player don't need to worry about it between fights, although currently stamina recovery between fights isn't instant, which gives it bit strategic meaning but as its recovery rate is very high, that meaning is very minimal. Stamina is also only health resource that can be restored with spells and other abilities, which makes healing spells to lose their strategic importance to make it possible to play parties that don't have healer and not to be heavily punished for it. Lessening healing power that spells, abilities and items have, serves also purpose in lore and world design wise, as designers don't have to invent reasons why people in world of Eora don't use healing magic to cure all the illness and even death in the world or how world would work when such things (illnesses and death) are rare occurrences.
  9. The plate mail *already* halves the total amount of actions you'll be able to do and the tradeoff is a flat 12 damage reduction. When you eat a crit for like 60 the 15 less damage your fighter's going to take doesn't suddenly make high DT armor op. Plate armor that BB_Fighter has is weakest of its type in the game. You find lighter armors with same DT in beta. And you can stack items that you find in beta your DT to be over 20. And you take only one forth of damage that you take in your health. So that 60 damage hit does under 10 points damage against character's health. And many critters don't do any or next to nothing damage against character with such DT. And you can make your fighter's defense so high that most enemies can't do critical hits against him. EDIT: One thing that I would like to see is DT penalties that armor suffer different type attacks, instead of needing to remember by hearth.
  10. Hmm? No, just design a system where it's either a non-issue or (and I'd prefer that), where it's an issue that matters, and not just a tacked on arbitrary game limitation. Instead they designed, from scratch, a system were this might be an issue, THEN added something to limit it. I mean, you remove one element, a single element that is the completely artificial notion of "restricted camping supplies" and you're EXACTLY where IE games stood. And I can assure you, that one of the FIRST thing a lot of people will immediately remove if possible via mods/hacking/save editing, is just that... So they shouldn't design things that people might change with mods so that they can exploit systems in single player game? And if they know that their previous games had design flaws that people exploited and they design, or at least tried to design, new system that would not have similar flaws, but they may have failed partially, is that reason to just copy flawed system from their old game and not even try to solve issue?
  11. That spam-rest is a non-issue that didn't affect anyone but the ones who wanted to abuse it, therefore didn't need any fixing whatsoever. That's my point And the current fix doesn't solve anything, it doesn't solve the "stuck bug with the rock". It just makes the distance between mobs and the rock bigger, hoping that dragging mobs all the way back (or going to the inn to rest) is so boring and frustrating that nobody will do it. So they should had design such exploit in their new game which they make in every way from scratch?

As for the "technically downloading" when viewing of sites. It's bull****. How could I know what the site contains before I enter it. As you said there was a lot of them on numerous forums and sites. People that check those sites regularly would see those pics without knowing whats what. And they should be prosecuted? Downloading files that are shared illegally is also against law in EU, because of our new uniformed piracy laws. Yeah... not many EU country have signed or passed this law in their countries so...no it's not. And it will not, google ACTA outrage But that is beside the point. I was asking about SEEING the pictures. You know on a website etc. So it is legal to download pirated movies in Poland? Yes. We can download almost anything if it's for personal use, only sharing and publishing of such materials is illegal. Interesting, are you sure that it isn't against law (as it is part of copyright directive that every country need to ratify)? As in Finland downloading illegal things is against law, but there isn't any sanctions for it, but it is mentioned law that people should not do such thing. Sharing and otherwise making such things public is criminal offence. So even though downloading pirated movies/etc. is illegal in Finland one can do so freely and without fear of any punishment given that they don't share them as well.
  13. err..no? unless maybe there's a coder on coffee break and bored or something. But don't take that for what it doesn't mean. If something is there for a reason, it must fulfill that reason without issue (be it cosmetic, etc). That means if there's a typo in a lore text, it must be fixed. If the rock is pink because the texture is screwed up, it must be fixed. If the rock is there to present tactical challenge and whatnot, it must be fixed as well. I mean, sure, if EVERYTHING else is working perfectly, the game is 1000% playable from A to Z without any other issue, then, why not! But otherwise...who cares? 99.9% of your players won't ever notice it and even those who do, probably won't abuse it. As a note, my point was: no reason to try fix everything, fix what's important..just putting it out there that this is my point, not the rock itself So when when developers begin their process to produce game should they aim one that don't have bugs (in code, area design, system design) that allow exploitation in it or should they design such exploitation in game in first place? Or what is the point?

Same thing if you streaming movie or song. If source don't have rights to share copyrighted piece then downloading (watching/listening/looking) it is considered to be act of piracy, which is in some countries against law and sharing said piece is often criminal offence in eyes of law. (Although as policing such laws is nearly impossible, which means nearly all of the offenders will never face any consequences for their actions)

  17. Bit out of topic (sorry!) but any word on being able to scout/sneak with just one party member? From the videos I've seen, people were only able to sneak with the entire group. Depends on what you want, if you want to go move only one character around to scout your surroundings you can do that, but if you want that only one member of the party goes in scouting mode then that isn't possible.
  18. I just don't understand why you'd design your entire core system (Health being the end all game over mechanic in place) to do that. I mean, I never spam-rest in any IE games because part of my fun is to manage resources properly, what do I care if some people did! Some people will always abuse the system: who cares in a single player cRPG! Designers (at least some/one) of those games cared, which is one reason why they wanted change things in PoE. Rest spamming wasn't only reason why they decided to use health/stamina(or endurance) system, but they also wanted to create world where there aren't healing magic that could heal long time injuries and they liked how Darklands' similar system works. And if you read what they have said subject, you would find out that they don't blame people abusing their systems, as they have designed those ways to abuse them, but they take it as challenge to try to create system which players can't abuse because of their design decisions.
  19. I think that removing need to rest maybe isn't way to go to prevent rest spamming PoE even though it probably would be quite effective way to stop people doing so.
  20. And fighter would be nearly immortal with their constant stamina recovery. Numbers have to be balanced, definitely. It's just the overall concept I'm talking about. Fighter stamina recovery could always be nerfed to accomodate such a change in rules. That would need also serious balancing on other abilities that fighter has or other wise they lose lot of power compared to other classes. And also Barbarian would need quite lot balancing in such system not to be too superior, also monks could become even more ultimate warriors than what they currently are.
  21. That basicly, again, forces meta on top of you. You can't know what's behind the next corner unless told so by NPCs. Also, higher difficulty levels are a thing. Even on most highest difficulty level with every extra difficulty option turned on you don't need spam rest (which you cannot even do as your resting is so limited). You don't need to know specific encounters to survive them without scratch you only need to know how game mechanics about work. Although if players don't scout ahead will have much harder time ahead of them.

  24. Not really, both had a premise based on the fact that games are violent/sexist and both ended up with the conclusion that games make people violent/sexist. Only if you make simplified their issues in such state that it isn't anymore issue that they have and way they represent things. But it is good make accusation that are full of fallacies and lies because it makes argumentation much more easier than trying using arguments that take more comprehensive perspective to issue.
