  1. I only comment on the ones I know Pride and Predjudice: Is a comment on growing up, morality, power and class divison in the english society. Anna Karenina: Is a comment on russian society, family and death. (...and like almost all russian books anti zarist) Gone with the wind: Portrait of the downfall of the southern american lifestyle. (Thats why Red Buttler did not give a damn because he symbolized the new area) Jane Eyre: Its a bout gender inequality and social class divison. Romeo and Juliet: Its about how dreams cannot survive reality. (Their are speculations that its also a comment on the queen which shakespeer disliked) All great stories use love as a vehicle to transport a deeper message. Thats why stuff like titanic is considered B-Grade. Love itself is not very interesting in stories because you dont need to explain it, you can always just say "those two are in love". It needs something else to make it important. All these stories use romance as one of their focal point to help them to tell their messages. I would point out that Titanic comments of social class structure and how some people are felt to have right to some privileges that other people don't have. It uses romance of higher class woman and lower class man to look how those classes see each other and what kind of expectations they have. And in end it takes look how some of those privileges don't die even in face of disaster that risk life all the people. Great stories need conflict that don't have singular straightforward answer which keeps readers interest up and where people can ponder things from multiple points of views. In most of these stories romance is part conflict as they take look if love between two people should negate society's expectations and rules, and etc. things. Love or any other singular thing isn't usually enough make story interesting, but instead you need mix of multiple things that create conflict in the story and how that conflict will solved in the end are usually the key to make story interesting and gives it ability to tell some sort of message.
  2. Romeo and Juliet Titanic West Side Story (although this is only modernized version of Romeo and Juliet) Before Sunrise Pride and Prejudice Anna Karenina Gone With the Wind The Notebook The Time Traveler's Wife Jane Eyre Message in a Bottle As for example of critically acclaimed novels and movies that have romance as one of their main focal points.
  3. I thought the pets were supposed to be unkillable (but also useless) mascots - did this change? --- +1 for helmets providing some kind of base bonus. Piglet pulled agro on some stone beetles, he died, but un-equiping and re-equiping him allowed me to re-summon. His pathing was still bad after his piggy easter, however. He does his own thing. So far it's seeming like pets aren't really going to be worth it. They're cute for about 5 minutes. Hopefully the KS exclusive pet will have something more compelling for a reason to keep it around - maybe a plus 1 to perception bonus or something. It will most likely not as people demanded that KS bonus items and pets should be only cosmetic during KS campaign and I think that Obsidian will probably stick with that as it is safest choice.
  4. Environmental narrative is important to make world feel 'real'. This isn't depended on any way what xp or any other mechanics game have or not have. Of course developers can drop random enemies in maps randomly and players themselves invent better or worse narratives why those enemies are there, but if developers put at least some effort in what kind narratives their environment and encounter placements tell then game will offer much consistent experience for all the players and therefore in my opinion will be much better. In my opinion Baldur's Gate used excellently it environment and encounters to tell narratives that made game much more immersive to me, which is why I hope that thins will be similar in PoE, which is why I suggested putting clear visual clue why wolves are in the tower and replacing beetles with bandits, as I can't invent any reason why beetles would terrorize a road, but I can invent multiple reasons why bandit group would do that.
  5. That is mostly talk from people that don't actually know much about wolves. French for example were somewhat obsessed about wolf attacks against humans and from their documentations we can find records for under 7600 fatal attacks against humans between years 1200-1920, Moriceau, Jean-Marc (2013), Sur les pas du loup: Tour de France et atlas historiques et culturels du loup, du moyen âge à nos jours [On the trail of the wolf: a tour of France and a historical and cultural atlas of the wolf, from the Middle Ages to modern times], Paris, Montbel, ISBN 978-2-35653-067-7). I live area that has wolves and I have seen them in nature and I can tell you that they run away from humans (although it is recorded that wolves that live near humans long time will cause wolves lose their fear of humans gradually) if they have chance (driving them corner or attacking them will often cause them to attack humans doing so). Worst that wolves usually do is to attack yard animals, but even that they do quite rarely. Although when wolves attack against humans they usually attack against weaker people like children about 90% of predatory attacks (cases where wolf attacks human because they think that human is prey), victim has been under 18 and most of cases against adults victim has been woman. Reason for such is that wolves hunt weakest and most vulnerable members of of their prey and that historically children were more vulnerable to wolves as they did go unattended to pick things from forest or herd cattle or sheep on pastures and as such habits have ended in Europe at same has wolf attacks against children dropped (in Asia especially in India such attacks still occur as there it is quite normal that children go alone herd cattle), now days most predatory attacks in Europe happen when children mistake wolf as dog and try to go pet it. And world Eora in technological level where urbanization and firearms have become normal. Can't remember anyone saying that wolves were unstoppable murder machines who literally killed everyone everywhere. Attacks by wolves were common, and still are in developing countries[1]. The idea that wolves living within a four hour walking distance of a rural village in a renaissance-inspired fantasy world is somehow preposterous is actually preposterous. My point was that wolves don't attack human settlements and steal children from them, such talk is from people that haven't ever seen wolf in nature. Attacks of wolves haven't ever been commonplace thing but they aren't also rare thing to happen, but in most cases they happen because of human provocation or against single individual that comes across them in nature. That village is not in four hour walking distance if of that village (even it says so in transition information, maybe road is in very bad condition ) as there is tunnel that connect that place and that village and that tunnel isn't several kilometers long.
  6. You could farm your characters to level cap in couple hours in BG by killing respawning high xp monsters like sirens for example. So? That only affects you and its your game so who the f*** cares. If you are the type of person who does that then the issue is yourself and not the game. If some fool spends his time derping on sirens for a few hours to reach max level then he's in the wrong game anyway. Plus that's easily solved by removing respawning sirens. It is comment about BG being very balanced xp wise. I didn't present any opinion one way or another about it being good or bad thing or any other thing.

  8. Well, wolves are territorial and that's part of their territory. I mean, maybe they could have them roam, but other than that they don't really need a reason to be there in particular. They're wolves, they do wolf things. You don't have to go down there and bother them if you don't want to. I don't know if wolves in Eora are different from wolves of our world, but wolves in our world would avoid kith and even place so close of kith habitation if there isn't food for them there. But giving them narrative reason to be there is in my opinion quite easy by placing body/carcass/meat pack left by one of the cultist there, which would same time explain why wolves are there and why they attack player's party (as they are trying to drive them away from their catch). It is minor detail, but it would make at least for me world feel more real.
  9. My mom has a lumia phone and updating it was pain in the ass. You have to download Microsoft Zune to your computer so you can update/patch your phone. Other than that and it being a closed system I don't have any complaints. 'New' Lumias (WP8.x) don't need any outside software to be updated and they have also removed all other reliance for Zune. My Lumia 920 has worked fine for last about two years. Only major complain against that I have is lack of some apps that you can find for iOS and android, but app library has gotten much better in last two years and probably will get better in future, as I don't think that MS will stop their efforts to support platform any time soon (but you never know for sure)
  10. I would say that they are overreacting and unnecessary invasion privacy of their journalists/writers. Because if you don't trust publication/journalist/writer/etc. then I don't think it will make any difference do you know if said publication/journalist/writer has given money for project/game/person/etc., without it being investment with monetary returns from products sales/other income, they are covering, but same time such policy causes said publication/journalist/writer/etc. lose their right to use their money as they see fit. But they are free to do what they want, but I think that this is going in comical levels.
  11. I agree that there should be narrative reason for every encounter in the game. Which is why I would change beetles to bandits (as people spoke in town about bandits on the road [if I remember correctly]) And I think Sensuki's idea about bodies or maybe food hoard would make occurrence wolves look more natural. And I would like also know narrative reason why there are different type spiders in one nest.
  12. I would like to see character portraits in left upper corner, because combat is currently so fast paced even with pause that it is quite important see character status changes as soon as possible and left upper corner is best place for such information for people that have used to read from left to right and from up to down. Both logs are currently quite important to actually comprehend fully what happens on screen, so logs probably should be moved in left lower corner, lower middle where they are easier to follow same time when eyes are focused on middle of the screen where action happens. Control panel I would probably put in right upper or lower corner as it see quite little of use in course of the game. EDIT: It probably should mentioned that I think that better visual feedback on battlefield would lessen significantly importance of the logs. Currently visual feedback don't give you nearly enough information what is happening in the fight.
  13. This happened to me too, but my journal had also emptied itself which I though was probably reason why she didn't talk. Also I could not open secret door in next chamber by using lever in wall, as using didn't nothing.

And which they need to take into account when they design or alter their design for those.

  16. A guy broke up with his girlfriend and posted the "why" to a website with screencaps of texts and tweets. Girlfriend is a game developer who (according to the posted screenies) admitted to a relationship with a game journalist who wrote positively about her game while still in a relationship with guy. Internet explodes. At least that's what I've gotten out of it. Like I said before, if an insider said EA was paying kotaku to get good reviews and positives articles, the internet would explode (and rightfuly so) But since it's a woman that had sex with a journalist (instead of bribing him with money) apparently a lot of people are dismissing the issue right away, people can't even discuss this in many websites without getting their comments deleted and their accounts shadowbanned. Even here I've seen many users suggesting the thread be deleted wich is embarrasing. Internet didn't explode when GameSpot fired one of their journalist because he gave too low score for Kane&Lynch, because Eidos (games publisher) demanded it, by threatening removing their ads from GameSpot's webpage. Eidos was then one of GameSpot's biggest advertisers. And that isn't singular case where big game sites have exposed to get payments for good reviews by big publishers. Now days they only do it more subtlety by getting journalist to play their demo versions in controlled events and then hype their games.
  17. Or move damage for fire arms to Perception. You could same time but melee damage there as hitting right place is much more important than putting strength behind hit when it comes to making most damage. And you also could put healing there, as seeing where damage is quite important to maximize your patching efforts. Then we could put interrupt in might as harder hits have higher probability to cause character to lose their concentration. And dadaa everything is solved without any actual changes in system
  18. Stoneskin stops attack as whole, so it don't cause any effects.
  19. One thing that I don't understand in this scandal is why 4chan and other similar online communities advertise Zoe Quinn and her game so vigorously?
  20. You could farm your characters to level cap in couple hours in BG by killing respawning high xp monsters like sirens for example.
  21. For part three there is already Exhaustion mechanic, although it is governed by athletics skill instead of constitution
  22. Even 33 pages worth of bugs and more isn't something that they could not fix in 3 months, it is quite lot time to fix bugs, finding all the bugs from the game is usually the thing which fails, as it can be quite hard thing to do for any software and especially when we speak game that is over 30 hours long, with multiple ways to complete.
  23. Wizards don't read their grimoires, but use soul energy absorbed to them to cast spells and spell pages on those grimoires do most of the work in the casting. And might also represent character's mental strength addition to physical strength and intellect represent character's logic and reasoning capabilities, it is not such general all including as D&D's intelligence attribute (and for some reason D&D's wizards never actually read books as their wisdom is generally only about average ).
  24. Regarding bow: bow strings have a certain amount of kg of pull that they support, so a stronger bowman can pull further the string and transfer more force to the arrow once shoot, while the amount of force that a crossbow transfer to a bolt is only given to the physical structur of the crossbow itself. Bu this is an abstraction because if you apply to much force to a bow string the string could snap or a bowman with a certain level of strength could always pull the string at his max capacity, it's simply another method for calculating bow damage (with some actual logic on his side). For the rest: i'm not fairly sure what do you mean with magic add physical damage, you mean like in a lot of anime? Do we really want to move this game over the JRPG area? And lastly: Str:govern everithing that require physical force Dex:given or taken as it is in poe Con:Health Int:govern everything that require insubstantial force like magic, intelligence(the mind, the psyche call it as you want) rapresent the will that people put in controlling something invisble and insubstantial I would use only those attribute, the rest would be only a series of skill. Bows have certain draw length which is optimal them, and pulling over it will only hinder usage of bow, as if you draw arrow to behind it will not leave cleanly from bow and lose accuracy and speed and if you use longer arrows there is still limit how long you can pull bow and longer arrows are also heavier, which means that longer draw don't necessary compensate speed lose which their weight will cause, and drawing bow too much also risks their structural integrity. So stronger bow man needs to use stronger bow to actually get any more strength to their shots. You can also in theory put more gunpowder in blunderbusses, pistols and arquebuses to get more velocity for bullet, and stronger man can use more gunpowder as they can handle bigger kick from the weapon, but in reality those weapons can handle only certain amount gunpowder, before their structural integrity is compromised, which is usually amount they are recommended to use with. For example spell sharper edge that adds physical damage that your sword does, is this damage covered by strength or intelligence in you system. So what skills you would then add to replace mechanics that are in PoE (health, concentration, interrupt, size of areas and duration of effects for abilities that aren't from insubstantial force (like barbarian carnage, and rogues special attacks))
  25. What is your reasoning that strength adds damage that bows do? Archer's strength determines only how strong bow they are able to use not how much power bow can put behind arrows that are shot with it. And if magic adds physical damage that character do should that damage be determined by character's strength or intelligence? And what is reasoning behind you choice? And how attributes should work otherwise in your system, meaning what attributes there should be, what they should do and reasoning behind them? As it is easy to demand changes in system but it is much harder to actually make them work in the game as intended.
