Enemy fighters have constant recovery, which can make them quite hard to kill with single character that don't have high DPS, as they don't have in my understanding have health and therefore don't die for just doing damage for long period of time, although I am not sure, as my tank chanter was able to kill Outlaw fighter in that second area, even though it took quite lot time to do so, they may have health stat but it is just so high that it causes make it feel that you can't wear them out.

That reaction is quite late addition in the game, but they have gone through multiple different inventory system during development, but they have kept in their original high level concept, which was three tier inventory - equipped+quick slots - top of bag/character's personal inventory space and stash. Although system is not as complex as they originally visioned as they made stash much more accessible and lessened role that personal inventory space plays in the game.

So... Was it worth your pledge?
Elerond replied to Luridis's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It is hard to say before I get those physical rewards, if it was just Kickstarter euphoria or did I actually pledged something worthwhile Game itself is beyond my expectations, but as I would had gotten it with 20 dollar pledge, it is hard to say if rest $338 were actually worth of it, although digital additions seem mostly be quality stuff, so those at least have some worth in them. But as I have accounted all the money that I put in Kickstarters as lost and it has now been over two years from that date when I lost that money, so it don't really have any value for me anymore, which make everything product that I like feel like worthwhile investment in my head, which is probably only thing that should matter at the end. -
Day one patch?
Elerond replied to xsubtownerx's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
This is indeed the "day one" patch. There is no new patch coming today (unless there's a crazy hotfix issue.) We are working on 1.03, but that's not locking down until next week. We'd like to collect issues reported here and elsewhere to make sure any immediate stuff gets resolved. Generally, that number at the end (508) is the daily build number. We don't fire off lots and lots of builds - it would take way too much time too do that. They usually only occur once daily, sometimes 2-3 times a day depending on the situation. Ok well I fail to see the difference with this and the pre-release build. Can we get the patch notes or something? I thought the UI was getting an overhaul.... Item Enchant UI has gotten polish, which was only UI overhaul that I know they have spoken. -

It is legit review, reviewer seems to overall liking game quite much even though he finds some aspects of game bit lacking or would have hoped different kind of implementation. He also seems to be quite knowledge able about game, its mechanics and kickstarter aspects of it. -

Steam only counts revenue from Steam store itself when they sort their best selling list, so redeemed backer codes don't influence it. -
Party size
Elerond replied to Greensleeve's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Beta players can easily comment on this. There are tons of people who played more than 20 hours, they may have a say on this too. But you, as I see, have nothing valuable to say about this, yet you still comment. I wonder how many of those 689 posts of yours are contributing. Beta players can give definite answer for this question because we were restricted to only small part of the game, which makes it impossible to tell for certain what you need in full playthrough. But you get minor (not even close to boost that you get in IE games) xp boost per open slot in your party. There are build that allow you to solo beta, but by nature of mechanics support bigger parties, but most of my playthroughs of beta area I did with party of five because it was default set up and missing one party member don't hinder you too much. -

Pillars of Eternity is number one!
Elerond replied to Aramed's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It depends on day. D:OS was about month Steam best seller and sold 500k copies on that period producing about $22 million (~$0.73M/d) worth of revenue (which is factor that Steam uses to sort their best seller list). But some times they have games that sell over million copies during one week, which usually means that their daily revenue is much bigger than what D:OS for example had. -

How do you know GOG doesn't get that many people a day? I think a lot of people underestimate just how many gamers have permanently said "no more, never again" to any and all forms of DRM. Witcher 2 has been one of the biggest sellers in GOG's history and GOG's version had cheapest price (shared with other stores) of all the legitimate stores and it had most additional goods and it was created and published by their sister company and still Steam managed to sell 5 times more copies. Of course GOG has grown from those days and maybe with Witcher 3 we will finally see Steam to lose little bit of its dominance of PC market. http://www.pcgamer.com/gog-release-witcher-2-sales-stats-steam-dominates-all-competitors-combined/ "Direct2Drive, Impulse and Gamersgate's combined sales combined hit only 10,000 sales of CD Projekt's RPG, whereas GOG managed to shift a cool 40,000 copies. Then there's Steam. Valve's digital distribution service managed to shift 200,000 copies in the same time period." -
9AM PST release
Elerond replied to ElmoHatesMe's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Ahem. Most of your 'core customers' are actually in Europe, so we are looking at 4 - 5pm GMT / GMT +1. If you look his post bit more, you notice that he didn't claim that their core customers are in California or even USA, but that 9 AM release for them means that all their core customers are able to play same time and as 9 am PST means that it is late afternoon (4-5pm) or early evening (6-7 pm) in Europe and late morning early afternoon in USA, which means that people from those areas are probably able to play the game same time and as it is weekday, European timetable is probably best suiting for most of the people as it is just after workday ends for most of the people. Australians and Asian this timetable is quite ill suiting (where it is middle of night) -
WTB Rogue suggestions/advice
Elerond replied to Yosharian's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Rogue works fine with big two-handed sword, especially if you go with backstap build and start fights with rogue giving massive hit. With two handed weapons dexterity is in my opinion more important than might, as you get more hits and rogues sneak attack already gives you 1.25 multiplier for the damage. For example Fire/Nature godlike (good choice because of their bonuses when endurance is below 50% as you will with high likelihood take quite lot damage) Mig 15/18 (18 if you want maximum damage) Con 10 Dex 19 Per 14/11 (14 if you want bit more defensive ability by adding deflection and ability to interrupt your enemies, which is supported by long interrupt time from two handed swords) Int 10 Res 10 This attribute distribution is quite conservative and you can try much more min/maxed distributions Here some example picks for abilities and talents and some explanation why Abilities: Blinding Strike (Level 1): This is good for two hand build build as it gives your opening blow more damage and if you blind enemy they don't engage your character, so you can escape if there is need to do so and if no then you get sneak attack bonus against your target. Escape (Level 3): This let you get safe from your front line position after your initial attack Riposte/Finishing Blow (Level 5): Riposte addition to two hand build as you get free attack every time enemy misses you. Finishing Blow lets you... finish the enemy. Adept Evasion/Coordinated Positioning(Level 7): Adept evasion works very well with riposte as it converts 50% of grazes you receive to misses, which give you change to get those free extra attacks. Coordinated Positioning lets you change place for example with your tank character, which lets you to escape engagement and engage the enemy with your tank same time. Talents: Backstab (level 2): This gives you +2 your damage modifier for attacks from stealth or invisibility, which gives you ability deliver quite devastating blows Shadowing Beyond (Level 4): This gives you ability to become invisible, which lets you escape engagement or deliver additional backstab attack. Fast Runner/Graceful Retreat/Superior Deflection (Level 6): Fast Runner adds your movement speed, which makes sneaking next to enemies easier and it gives you defense bonus against disengagement attacks, Graceful retreat gives you defense bonus against disengagement attacks, superior deflection gives you deflection bonus to help get more those misses for riposte. Fast Runner/Graceful Retreat/Superior Deflection (Level 8 ) As additional note: You get riposte attacks also from missed disengagement attacks, which is why it is nice to build your defense against them, as it gives you ability run away after your initial attack and instead of being punished for doing so you get additional attack. -

what does Gromnir win?
Elerond replied to Gromnir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Bah, don't try to hide the fact I'm more versed in Dragon Age lore than you are. Which is something embarrassing to brag about... am pretty sure that the use o' Ban, as a title o' nobility, predates dragon age by a few years... or a few centuries. HA! Good Fun! I was more bragging about knowing the correct spelling from the game. My knowledge of actual history is limited to "America is best." First know use of Ban as tittle for nobility is over thousand years ago in book called "De Administrando Imperio" ("On the Governance of the Empire"). -
The Custom Portraits Thread

Did you do that or did someone else? I think I made it pretty clear, that I do not appreciate my work being posted cropped or without backlink. (Not that I should have to.) This is essentially both. Aside from obviously no credit being given to any of the other artists either. But it's pretty obvious, many people here have no respect for artists , their work, or their rights, whatsoever. Just remove your portraits from these forums. You post on a public forum and expect people not to use them? When asking for being credited for your work become equal to excepting people not to use your work? -
The Custom Portraits Thread
Elerond replied to Namutree's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
That is like saying that you don't understand why some developers don't when people share their game to other people without their permission, even though nobody is trying to make money by doing so. People generally don't like when they work is used without their permission, especially when they don't even credit for the work. And in this case problem is not that person has something against people using her art in game, but that they share that art without giving her credit for that art. -

Where they mentioned that to you? As I can't find comment from Kickstarter (I gave link to every comment that Obsidian's members have officially written in Kickstarter) And I have seen any proof that the devs intended to release game early for backers during kickstarter, only that they wanted to please backers who were angry because press got to play game earlier than they, but they couldn't do it because of technical reasons. -

https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/obsidian/comments In kickstarter they have only spoken about how beta would be early access instead of real beta, but as we now know that was not exactly the case. I didn't found any comment where any of them have said anything that would give impression that Bakcers would get earlier access than people who preorder game.
