Slavery is always a hard issue especially when a religion is OK with it. What happens if the slaves are freed? There are very few instances in history where everything works out well in the short term. Someone wants revenge and someone else wants their property back. The moral grey areas appear when you know that by freeing the slaves you will make things much worse in the immediate future, but hopefully in the long term things will be better. If the church says slaves are allowed then potentially your seen as the villain for freeing the slaves, perhaps your considered by the faith as a thief for stealing a lords property. A God may even punish those who free slaves.

I just thought of a scenario were someone would want to trap a soul. A kingdom that's rulers is succeeded eternally by his reincarnated form. Once the king dies his loyal priests search for his soul and raise the infant to become king. Till the child comes of age the eldest child or highest ranking priest rules as regent. The regent however wants to job full time so locates the kings soul before the priests and imprisons it. I'm sure there are other potential reasons to do it. Hatred and religious doctrine seem the 2 biggest though.

Can a person exist without a soul, can people steal souls from the living creating a soulless individual? What punishment could possibly fit that crime?

I had forgotten how great that was, thanks for reminding me -
Crimes in fantasy games have always interested me. Due to the wonders and mechanics of the world some crimes cant really have as much impact as the real world. For example how do you arrest someone for murder in D&D when a cleric has cast raise dead on the victim? Now in project eternity it is generally accepted that souls exist and that reincarnation is possible. So if death isn't a permanent thing spiritually speaking is murder less of a crime? Is there a greater crime than murder? Perhaps the fracturing or the corruption of a soul. Would some religions perhaps have no moral quandary with killing as long as it doesn't affect the soul? Could a religion even condone murder on individuals with certain types of souls? Racially motivated crimes get raised to a whole new level when your looking at different species. Do groups of thugs go hunting half elves as some affront to perceived blood purity? Could there be species segregation in some areas, parts of whole cities cut off from dwarves because the ruling lords don't view them as sentient. These are ideas that fascinate me. Can you think of some crimes that would be unique in this fantasy setting or just seen as completely different from the real world?

I am now picturing what a Paladin order dedicated to Crom would do. It is glorious and it is terrifying. -
You are female, right? Because that statue is of a male creature... What does his/her gender have to do with foot fetishism? Because I have it too, but I'm surely not looking forward to see the statue's feet Though it was mostly a ploy to discover if JayDGee is a guy or a girl. Of course, JayDGee might have been using the non-erotic definition of fetish. Maybe the giant, underground statue is their character's deity. Heck, maybe that is what happened to Eothas. Or maybe the whole construction was an attempt to create some dark god using the souls of thousands of unsuspecting workers. A conversation that could never have happened before the internet. Although clearly I have lustful feeling towards giant statues feet regardless of their gender (see Statue of Liberty and Colossus of Rhodes )and this is due to me regarding them with awe as the embodiment of a potent spirit. Nothing sexier than a giant foot empowered by magic.

I have a habit of starting all rpg's with a tank heroic type character. I never intend this it just happens. I usually go in with the intention of playing something fast or explosive but end up going for the old reliable. Must be an issue of familiarity. I'd like to play a monk so I'll probably end up playing a paladin or fighter.

That's fine and dandy but given that this is the PE Discussion Forum, we are going to discuss PE and its design. It is somewhat inevitable. Yeah discussion is great and should be actively encouraged. Demanding that someone do their job in a certain way however is ridiculous and some people are doing that. My point was simply if you really want a game made a certain way then make it. Basic game design is easier than ever, even trying it would give people a greater appreciation for what they are asking of a developer. I've donated some not entirely insignificant amount of money to this project and I would rather selfishly like the devs to make a game I'd love to play. That is why I am using this forum to voice my opinions on game design in hope of influencing it my way. I have other boards for theoretical game design discussions. And the "make your own game then" thing is a not really usable, it's on the level of "what have accomplished that gives you right to criticize" silencing tactics. If I have offended you in some way please not it was unintended. It is also not my intention to silence anyone. We all gave money to a developer because we trusted them to make a game that we will love. I'm doing that, I'm trusting them to make it. I want people to discuss game ideas and theories I love that stuff. I don't want people telling someone else how to do their job. There is a difference. I am fairly sure discussion of eternity on these forums and other locations will have influence on the games end design (pretty sure it has already).

JayDGee replied to GrimRadke's topic in South Park: The Stick of Truth: General Discussion
Sadly it will never happen. There are unfortunately very real potential dangers from showing it. It's wrong to me on every conceivable level as I'm not a religious person. I cant blame someone from being scared of extremists especially when people are attacking embassy's for the exact same issue. -

I agree with the idea for realistic violence but acknowledge that there are people in the game who can do the unrealistic, people will be able to channel the power of their souls to do wondrous and terrifying things. Who knows maybe a fighter channelling that power through a blade can create enough force to cause a body to explode. -
There are things I would love to see in the game I am reasonably sure most will appear in it. I am also fairly confident that there will be something I could not have thought of or dared to ask for that will surprise and delight me. I am more than happy to leave the games design to the games designers. Those that don't want obsidian to make the game to their own vision should probably install Game Maker. It's free you can even get it on steam.

only reason I would want to push this is I want to know if the statue has feet. -
I like the idea of a quest giver not being put of by your failure. "OK you couldn't steal the amulet from the manor, but I heard it's being transported for an auction. Get it and you'll still get full payment." "all right the caravan guards were better armed than I thought. but the auction went ahead and the new owner will be at this restaurant tomorrow. last chance get me my amulet" "you let him get away and you come back to my shop. I fence artefacts you think I cant take you!"

I'm going to avoid the forums for a while, as I think I could drive myself mad guessing what the game will be like. Think I should sit back relax play some other games and wait for final release date. To Obsidian thank you. You gave updates to your community constantly. 26 updates during the Kickstarter that's huge double fine has 12 (5 of which are episode updates once the Kickstarter ended) Looking forward to more updates as time goes by and to see how the documentary will take shape. The community here has been fantastic especially the people organising OO. Who knew marshmallows and paladins were natural enemies? The last minutes of the Kickstarter were crazy and hugely enjoyable. Lovely to see a team genuinely happy (drunk admittedly) for the project there about to start. Also every goal hit (happy dance).
