  1. The Un-Nerfed THAC0 by Blucher component of BG2 Tweaks is really good for offsetting THAC0 issues.
  2. Character Art Clipping Bugs with "leather_armor" female version Area/World Map Toggle Bug VFX bug with Barbarian Blooded ability, and possible explanation for glowing Nyfre - recognized by QA Issue: Inconsistency with Opening Item Descriptions
  3. You can open the same item description page three times, or have three item descriptions open at the same time, even though you can't see them. Sometimes (though not recorded in this video) when you open two item descriptions without pressing compare, they go side by side like the compare function. I would recommend cleaning up how this works. I don't think you should be able to open the same item description three times in a row and have them stack behind eachother. You could tab them or something like a web browser, or just limit them to either one open, or two of the same type to compare.
  4. You backstab as much as possible. Thief play in BG2 can be pretty good but you have to make good use of either Stealth or Invisibility Potions (just buy a stack of them, and keep repeating it). Assassin's can get up to x7 Backstab multiplier and their poison on top of that makes for some nasty stuff. There are some enemy types you can't backstab though. I *think* if you go an Elf, you get +1 bonus with Long Swords and Bows in BG2:EE ?? as well so that sort of makes up for it. I think there's a few Assassin guides out there. I think Stalkers and Fighter/Thieves are better at straight combat. Btw, if you get stuck just do a few searches and you might find some tips eg: http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/13301/mage-thief-discussion
  5. Yeah I'm not big on Mage/Thief. Not really my thing, but I'm sure it's pretty good if you pick the right spells (such as Tenser's Transformation and stuff like that). Assassins have poison which is really effective, and at higher levels they can use any item - which is really good and makes up for the THAC0 deficiency. There's nothing about the Guarded Compound that's hard counter related - it's all about movement, positioning, targeting priority and spell use. Crooked Crane is a different story, but it's a lot easier than other encounters of that type. Very easy to beat actually.
  6. Yeah I reported that to Bester, my intention was that only unit highlighting was to be disabled. And yep
  7. Here are the proper links sorry: http://gibberlings3.net/forums/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=696 http://gibberlings3.net/forums/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=695
  8. Kensai or Kensai/Mage is super fun (and a lot easier than many of the other classes). Sorcerer is also really good. I like Undead Hunters as well. Assassins are also great. Ranger/Cleric is supposed to be pretty good too, but I've only played one in BG1 and IWD1. I also highly, highly recommend Two-Weapon Fighting Oh yeah Monks are cool too. I would also try doing the Kalah quest with the pointers that I think Mr. Magniloquent or Stun gave you. You can also do the slaver quest in the Copper Coronet in 'reverse order', meaning that you can either do the Copper Coronet back room stuff first and then go through the sewers, OR you can go outside the Copper Coronet, kill the slaver guard outside their compound, pick the lock to the door and go in that way then go through the sewers and come out in the back rooms of the Copper Coronet (just make sure you talk to Lehtinan first so he gives you access and stuff too). I would advise taking some side trips to the Graveyard (find the Crypt King's Tomb) and maybe to the Crooked Crane Inn in the City Gates and find the secret door there. If you're going to do the Temple District stuff, go to the Guarded Compound before the sewers IMO. The Bridge District quests are also pretty easy, and one of them (which you get from below the Inn) takes you to the Sewers in the Temple District anyway. I'd also swing by the Government District and have a look at Viconia and Jan Jansen too. So yeah ... after you do the slaver stuff, don't commit to any quest straight away - it's not necessary. You can do your own exploring. Trademeet and the Umar Hills content are fairly suitable for around level 8-9 as well. Windpear Hills is a bit harder. edit 3: Also I don't know if you knew, but you can buy a license in the government district to cast spells outside in the city for 5,000 GP.
  9. Just sounds like you had one sour experience and it's marring your experience with the rest of the game's encounters. If I have time I'll quickly put together an Inquisitor and play the BG2 I have installed and see how I go (and bandicam record important stuff for ya). What Weapon Proficiencies did you go?
  10. Yeah the new suppression rule changes (which were not described at all in any of the patch notes, I'm not even sure how they work) are not working correctly. Bonuses do not stack correctly, and things can be suppressed if you apply buffs in the wrong order.
  11. Wasteland 2 and Pillars of Eternity are a bit more resource hungry than small indie titles. Hormalakh had to switch from Win7-32 to Win7-64 because his games just kept crashing.
  12. By trouble performing stably, I mean CTDs. XP32 only supports 3.25 GB of RAM, even if you have 4GB installed.
  13. If you don't have "access" to 4GB of RAM it likely means you're running on x86 architecture instead of x64. All of the recent Unity games (Wasteland 2 etc) have trouble performing stably on x86 systems, simply because I don't think they are optimized for them.
  14. The Engagement mod will not be ready for use immediately. Currently it's just an experimental feature for testing purposes. There are still many AI, animation and pathfinding glitches that make playing without it a bit silly and many abilities, talents and items that also need to be changed so that those are not trap choices with the mod.
  15. Well you were asking for content appropriate for your level The dragon fight is good fun. The good thing about BG2 is you can do the content in any order you like in Chapter 2, and sure, you may not know what content is what level - that's part of the fun. I believe most older games are like that - the Fallouts for instance. It sounds a bit like you want the game to hold your hand instead. Inquisitors are supposed to be one of the easiest classes, with their innate Dispel Magic and True Sight. When I play the game I usually do the content in a similar order to what you did, I do the Copper Coronet stuff, then either the Docks or Temple District. I think you might have not spent your money (literally do not worry about the 15K - buy items, you'll have 100K gold in no time anyway) or known the location of a lot of the good items that are in the city - for instance there's two awesome Longsword +2's that can be found upon leaving the Slums district in different static locations in the city. One is in the Graveyard, and the other is in the City Gates area. Also if you are going to stop - install some mods. BG2 FixPack BG2 Unfinished Business (I don't use the unfinished class kits or the old portraits) One Pixel Productions BG2 Tweaks - the most important one for you, I think. Don't install everything, you want to select the option ask for each section and install things that sound appealing individually maybe even ToBEx, which removes the fake weapon attacks, but keeps the combat idle, among other things
  16. Over the unit's head wouldn't be a good idea, but they could do those in the enemy tooltip, sure. Just with smaller icons probably.
  17. I know the occasion you're talking about, but I don't think it's a cipher ability - it's a dialogue related thing.
  18. I agree that Pillars of Eternity has a lot more effort put into reactivity, alternate quest options and all that stuff, but I'm not sure if it will have the branching nature/sheer depth that some of the BG2 quests will. For me the combat gameplay is what matters more than absolutely anything. It's also important to consider that for PE to have good quest design, those mistakes had to be made in other games (like BG2). The IE games were actually a step down in quest design from some of the earlier 90's RPGs. Eg. Dark Sun Shattered Lands - that had more options/ways to do stuff.
  19. Yeah PE combat is pretty boring. Yeah sure, although you have to beware of mod compatibility as some mods often step on eachother's toes and cause bugs. There is a huge megamod called Big World that actually makes a lot of these mods compatible together, but it takes a long time to install properly. I like Ascension mostly for the Harder Bosses mods that come with it. I also use ToBEx, D0QuestPack, D0Tweak, SPStuff, Spell50 and a couple of other minor mods - some of these mods you have to be careful with compatibility though, I read a guide on the net about which order to install them in, and what components not to use. If you're going to be using a few mods, it's 100% worth googling which order to install them in, because you could run into a gamebreaking bug if you install them in the incorrect order. I think the BiG World manual is the best thing to look up mod install orders for (from memory) but a few forums have guides too.
  20. Yeah the actual Mae'Var questline as a whole is really good. Maybe all of the sub-quests of it aren't A+, oh well.
  21. Every game has their share of these. Even Pillars of Eternity When you think of it, that quest is just a sub-quest of the Mae'Var quest, which isn't bad in itself - it has lots of stages, takes you to a few different locations and you do have more than one option in a few of the quests. I think you can also side with Mae'Var, too. Be nice if you could use some Cipher abilities in the dialogue in PE, but so far - they don't let you.
