So it was that rumored card-game Pillars tie-in. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2081578473/pillars-of-eternity-lords-of-the-eastern-reach-car Looks like fun. Not much of a cards guy, but I may back it at a later date.

Journalism and Bias in the Gaming Industry
GhoulishVisage replied to Blarghagh's topic in Way Off-Topic
My personal theory, completely unsupported by anything, is that it's because red is the colour of arousal. An aroused person often looks flushed and pink. Red cosmetics, such as blushes and lipsticks send subconscious messages to our brains that we should find this attractive. -
From the official Obsidian twitter account: The first Pillars expansion? Next Obsidian Kickstarter? The unannounced project?

Journalism and Bias in the Gaming Industry

Something tells me McIntosh is behind that little tirade. The petulant whining about violence in media is McIntosh's drivel verbatim. I believe McIntosh also holds the view that media cannot properly critique violence if it contains violence itself. I have never seen someone spew so many words so devoid of meaning. -

So in relation to my theory that Warner Bros would offer George Miller a shot at directing one of their DC films it seems like that already happened in the past. George Miller was going to direct a Justice League movie titled Justice League: Mortal, but that was cancelled quite deep into pre-production. Wonder what it would have been like. -

Saw the movie today. Absolutely fantastic. Visuals were amazing. Action was amazing. Soundtrack was amazing. Dunno why Hardy seemed intent on doing a Sylvester Stallone impersonation though. Spoilers, yo. While the movie does focus on Furiosa quite a bit, and Max is more of a catalyst than a verbose character, it is completely disingenuous to say that he was a non-entity. At the beginning of the film Max is more like an animal than a man. He's been wandering the wasteland alone for years and the events of the previous films have had their toll on him. This is reflected in his non-verbalness and feral attitude, his entire existence was one of pursuit and violence. He only interacts in a non-violent manner with other people when the situation is forced on him. Through the film as he comes to care about the rest of the characters on the War Rig he is drawn out of himself and becomes more like a man again; he talks more even though it seems difficult for him and he decides to stay with the women and help them to the end of their quest rather than go back to his animalistic ways when given the chance. By the end of the movie he once again cares about something, where in the beginning he said himself that the only constant on his mind was his own survival. -

I wonder if Warner Bros will try to rope George Miller into doing a DC movie for them for their DCCU. Warner Bros like returning to directors they've previously worked with, and the DCCU is reportedly going to be going with a rather "director driven" approach, as opposed to Marvel's more tightly controlled method. -

The Road Warrior is a landmark movie. It's a film that has forever altered the general population's view of what the apocalypse looks like, it's brimming with iconic imagery that has inspired countless movies, video-games (most notable being Fallout and before that Wasteland) and works of art. Fury Road may be a brilliant movie, and I'm going to be seeing it this Sunday, but it too is something derived from The Road Warrior. It just won't have the same impact on popular culture that the original had. The Road Warrior broke new ground. Fury Road treading a path already made for it. -

Having a second playable character is a brand new mechanic for Assassin's Creed. I don't doubt that it's going to be for this AC what ship-sailing was for Black Flag. Of course they're going to holler about it from the rooftops. It'd be like if Warner Bros didn't mention the Nemisis system for Shadows of Mordor. It would look a bit odd if they were showing off this new character and they didn't make any fuss about the fact that she's the first female playable character in a main installment of the AC franchise. Edit: Also, thanks for my new sig, Bruce. -

Damn, man. I read my first Terry Pratchett book, Reaper Man, when I was eleven years old. His books have accompanied me all the way to present day. We've known this was inevitable for a while, but it's still incredibly gut-wrenching.

It does not however use the World of Darkness license. Instead it is an entirely new IP in development by Dontnod Entertainment. Titled Vampyr, it is apparently set just after the First World War with the player character being a recently turned doctor, who has to balance his new lust for blood and his instinct as a trained physician to try and save lives. The sparse details about it can be found here, but there's very little information available. We don't even know what platforms it will be available on. As a huge, huge fan of Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines I can't help but feel some excitement at the prospect of a game like this being made. That poster even seems to be deliberately recalling the Bloodlines boxart. However I am too jaded these days to not feel some amount of cynicism for this project. I have not forgotten Dark. Do you guys reckon Dontnod will be able to tap into the Bloodlines magic? I did not play Remember Me, so I cannot comment on it.

I personally think that the most likely candidate for the next Obsidian KS will be an original IP, but it will be a spiritual successor to the KOTOR series (particularly KOTOR 2) in the same way that PE is a successor to the BG games. That way they will be able to capitalise on existing fans whilst still retaining control of the IP and be able to stretch their creative legs. KOTOR fans have been salivating for a new game for a while now, and I doubt Obsidian have been deaf to the multitude of posts clamoring for a new KOTOR every time they've put out a statement of any kind. Feargus was quite wistful about the possibility of a new Star Wars RPG in this interview. He seems to be mulling over the idea of an isometric Star Wars game with 2D backgrounds ala the Infinity Engine games, which would be substantially cheaper to produce than something with kotor's production values. It would also be easier to make as they already have the tools to make it with the tools they've created during the production of Pillars of Eternity.

I think that Monte Cook's other Kickstarter funded game The Strange is a possible contender for a property Obsidian might take on for their next KS. It's got some definite Planescape overtones to it from what I've read. His Numenera license is being used by inXile at the moment for Tides (which Avellone is writing for), and it's possible that he's receptive to the idea of The Strange being used similarly.

Really should have been a HBO series. In fact, I'm surprised that Warner hasn't mined their darker DC and Vertigo stuff for shows on HBO at all. It's kind of perplexing, actually. There is so much untapped potential there.

Oh dear. Oh wow. http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=216873 If this turns out to be true... well. You can't take the moral high-ground and be a scam artist at the same time. Edit: That said I'd wait for more info on this before getting too riled up. -

Hey NWN_babaYaga, I think you could have introduced the topic a bit better in the OP, outlining the situation and posting some of the arguments from either side. It'd create a better environment for discussion. I've been following this drama on and off. Rather interesting series of events, to say the least.

Damn. Just, damn. Depression sucks. It really sucks. Going to go and dig through my DVD collection for some Robin Williams favorites to re-watch.
