  1. Maybe two should define the word rape first, because the general definition "forced intercourse" is very broad. Some might even say that rape is a kind of torture. Some might say that what the Russian prison guards did some time ago was "rape by bottle" even though there was no intercourse. Then of course there are people who claim that "I wasn't in the mood but I did give in after he/she touched my butt" is still rape. However, as it was concluded (or so I believe) earlier it all comes down on how one perceives each kind of villainy. For example, a lot of people are mostly apathetic when it comes to animated gore thanks to its vast presence in popular culture. And turns out views on these kinds of things are difficult to change, heh.
  2. Actually it takes place in Ukraine and they speak Ukrainian . And I personally didn't mind the accents in Skyrim, what I hated was that there was 3 voices for all guards everywhere. And I also didn't really like the fact that I didn't understand what were some random people talking about in STALKER, because there are no subtitles for that. There was a number of suggestions on Bethesda's boards to move Fallout out of US, so I expect they'll make a DLC with that.
  3. There is a large difference between a detail not being present in the game at all and the game breaking integrity of its own rules. There are titles that deal with this differently - they simply make all "good" characters unkillable. But that's something I find extremely lame, though I would understand if it was present in a low-budget game and I wouldn't complain unlike in case of selective immortality.
  4. Obsidian underestimated how long it would take to make a video game? Say it isn't so. Now we get to know how Sega felt. Well, I pledged with up to two years long delay in mind. Seriously. Considering Obsidian's past and history of "somewhat special" games, it is inevitable. Resistance is futile.
  5. Heh, certainly not waiting for "leaks". Also, I'm on Obsidian forums, PE is really secondary even though I've invested a few bucks into it :D
  6. Can't people keep their mouth shut nowadays? Not only does this spoil any surprise, but it just feels wrong... I don't mean that as a personal insult, more like about complaint about the trend of these days.
  7. I guess that's why Dragon Age didn't receive any major criticism even though the main character could actually kill that possessed boy and the violence/gore levels were sometimes over-the-top, hm? (it's just an example, I don't suggest putting something like that in PE) The thing called "good taste" is extremely subjective. SR3 isn't really that violent...
  8. That is terrible, but there is a gigantic difference between that and setting Frodnar from Riverwood in Skyrim ablaze. And clearly I'm not the only one who though of something like that. First two thirds are safe for fragile minds.
  9. Fine.... I guess one reply shouldn't start a flamewar. If I was to put it shortest way possible, I don't see any difference (on moral/evil scale) between rape and torture. And I certainly don't see any difference in manslaughter by age. In real life, all of it is condemnable and should be "rewarded" by extreme punishments. But depiction of such? Nope, can't see it. In Fallout 2 when I was playing the ar*ehole character, I got that "gods, I'm a bastard" feel when I annihilated the entire Wright family. But that's what comes with playing no-more-mr-nice-guy characters. When I first met Horrigan, I had similar feeling towards ... it and the Enclave goons. Alpha Protocol had some pretty shocking moments. The point is that it reminds too much of political correctness, a practice I dearly hate and that I consider to be extremely hypocritical. Especially when coming from someone throwing words like "sick ****s" even though he/she clearly knows better. Hence my previous statement, I'm sorry it offended you. Additionally, without kids the game would feel incomplete as they always do, unless it makes sense like in PS:T. With (partially) immortal kids it would feel plain dumb... Then again, I get the feeling that this whole discussion is pointless as Obsidian has probably already decided everything related to the topic some time ago.
  10. Fallout is highly related to the culture of American 50s, I believe... Lots of artdeco, good music, drugs, guns, crooks and all the little things.
  11. Totally agree. And Fallout 2 (not sure about 1) also had some references to your karma. Even though that's a very one-dimensional approach, it's a start and I'd like to see something like that in PE, except it would take into consideration more levels, such as unnecessary violence, trustworthiness, morals, lawfulness, etc... I'm also waiting for a game that deals with thievery in some good way, not that it automatically lowers your karma or does nothing. Morrowind at least didn't allow you to sell stolen items back to its owner... No game has ever considered there could be delayed consequences (something like very simple simulation of a finished investigation). Just hypocritical (no offense, everyone is in some way). But that discussion is too long to be had on something as slow as forums. *cough*IRC*cough*
  12. I'm all for what op mentioned if, as they say in Oz, it's justified by context. Child slaughter can be even used as a great game mechanic. You'd really like to use a powerful AoE spell, but there is a kid in the middle of the group. Of course, the solution becomes obvious if you have some anti-spell targeted buffs or something like force field. But it's just an example, I'm sure Obsidianites could come up with more and better uses . Then again, they might choose the way of idiots from Bethesda and ban even for discussing such ideas.
  13. Any companion that is mostly autonomous, has good dialogues / interactions and isn't vital is good... I liked them most in Fallout (2).... then again, I imagine it's much easier to make one that just shooting than one using various abilities.
  14. Uh... I never said that it would be any risk for Obsidian itself >.> . And even then, I was exaggerating in both post, I thought that was clear enough. I'm not stupid enough (even though most people like to think so) to judge anything by rumors or hires, especially when it comes to a company that has a record of a large number of canceled / suspended projects. So there
  15. Well, I don't know, usually when I see "MMO", things start turning ugly. I'm a bit sceptical about expensive and risky projects like that :/ . "MMO panic"
  16. It's getting way too MMOish for my tastes.
  17. My good sir, I'm sorry, but my ropes and poles use metric units and your imperialistic habits insult me, you scoundrel. A pox on you, and your kind! Ahem. What I'd like to see in the dungeon is: -hard-to-spot secret rooms (and not really "spot" by stats like in D&DO) -maybe a finite end of the whole thing, perhaps even repopulating by something else than monsters (with additional places to explore, something Fable 3 did with Dark Sanctum) -of course corpses of past adventurers and/or their logs. Maybe even logs from the time the dungeon was not corrupted (assuming there was such time) -a sealed large vault (details up to Obsidian) What I do not want to see is turning the dungeon into infinitely respawning XP and loot grind. I have Grim Dawn or Diablo 2 for that.
  18. I'd like to be an intern in Obsidian, too
  19. Thanks for sharing. It currently shows 16 views, so it needs sharing badly :D
  20. I demand new Obsidian Fallout, or else. (using Skyrim rhetoric there)
  21. Always nice reading from Chris. But speaking of companions, what of pets/summons/familiars? Are they going to get some personality as well? I think it might add a lot to the depth of the game. I'm getting tired of empty murder machines. Note: I would appreciate if you didn't use "Google" as a synonym for "do a search"
  22. Hah, that one is tough. I fought her using crit. Lucas, I was not having good time :<
  23. I would prefer feature-rich game with massive world with a lot of various things to do and many memorable characters and moments before bug-free release any day, thankyouverymuch. I trust Obsidian will try to sort out any post-release bugs as soon as they can, but I'm patient.
  24. If it was up and running, there would be a large red panic button on the front page and all pledgers would be mailed. Be patient.
  25. With that scope and potential, it's hardly doable with mere few millions. Not for US devs anyway.
