  1. It was a deal Obsidian agreed to, was it not? Yeah, they did. Not sure what your point is. My point is that there is nothing wrong with paying or not paying according to a contract that was agreed by both sides and has very specific terms (most of which are unknown to the general public). I don't know what the all the rage is about. Yes, it was close, but I doubt "getting close" is often taken into consideration when making a deal. Metacritics is a terrible site, yes, but the same thing could happen if the condition was "sell this many copies in that many months".

  3. Except NV was flatter than F3. I wasn't talking about Bethesda's ****ty writing (why do you think I said it should be designed and written by Obsidian?) I was talking about their level design. Exploring in NV consists primarily of wandering around outside, in a terrain flatter by far than F3s (seriously, that's your big argument against F3's world design, "it's flat"?) the only difference is that there's a wall of mountains surrounding the NV area and a wall of mountains dividing it down the center. I already said F3's writing was ****, I say that every time I make a post about F3. That's tangential to the fact that F3's world was simply more fun to explore for exploration's sake than NV. I never said anything good about any of F3's towns/settlements, and I won't. You're just sticking words in my proverbial mouth for the sake of your strawman. You said that you liked the world/level design. That's a pretty general expression, isn't it? It includes design of cities and towns, so I'm not "sticking words in your proverbial mouth for the sake of my strawman". You can point you aggression somewhere else. About F3 being flat, could you refresh my memory and tell me where was any kind of place that had a hill taller than say, 5 meters? It's not like there should be any hills, because, if I recall correctly, DC and its surroundings are pretty flat. And seriously, it's not my "big argument", it was first on the list becuse it's the most obvious one (or so I thought). You already mentioned Mt. Charleston and the mountains in the center of NV map (which include the Nipton pass, REPCONN test site, Black Mt. and all that, I guess), then there is Sloan, Black Canyon and its surroundings, the area between Callville Bay and Devil's Throat, and Red Rock canyon. I think that's more than a third of the map. All I can remember from Fallout as a tall are was the Oasis. I may need to refresh my memory though, it's been years since I touched the game.
  4. Did you really like the flat land, somewhat random scattering of locations, nonsense like building a settlement around a nuke and corridor city DC? When I came to New Vegas, I felt as if I was back in New Reno, only less rotten. When I came to Rivet City, I felt nothing. Big empty. I simply didn't get any "falloutey" feeling from Fallout 3... or at least not any amount to speak of. I did have a lot of fun with Rock-It Launcher though.
  5. KOTOR 2 on sale today. http://store.steampowered.com/app/208580/
  6. Then New Vegas was worse, because I have no desire to explore the **** brown, empty desert with trade mark **** Obsidian gameplay. And Obsidian knows ****ty gameplay. I've tried Alpha Protocol... I'm surprised you've registered here then. What's your purpose here? I'm pretty sure I already know the answer.
  7. I don't like boss fights that have stages. Especially those that hit the next stage when their HP bar drops to zero and it's full when they return. Also saving throws that make most spells / abilities completely useless. Also excessive random stuns and random agro isn't something I enjoy...
  8. I don't think a specific "speech" skill is the best way. More like all skills based where you could persuade someone that he has cancer because your "doctor" skill is high, or because you are a healing priest OR because you are good and you know he/she/it has cancer, though that would prolly also require CHA check. AP has a very specific dialogue system and though I love it dearly, I really don't think it would go well with PE. It was also i no way related too the system used in DA:O. Additionally, it was based based a lot on reputation and dossier intel. By the way, the word is "diplomacy". Won't go to the poll... Didn't vote, too specific.
  9. Oh lookie, first potential issues ahead http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2128128298/expeditions-conquistador/posts/413666#comments
  10. Nobody is forcing you. You don't have to run Steam (therefore the thread has no point). Steam is optional. As you yourself mentioned, you can (and will) buy it on GOG. I regret any dev that had to read this pathetic discussion. They provide you an option to go without DRM, without any clients or anything like that and you still manage to brag about the other option. If I was a dev, I would track your names and addresses and have the game include the original Starforce which would activate when you run it.
  11. I'm pretty sure that quote is from DAO... I don't know, the selection of voices in (for example) NWN2 seemed much better to me. The more the merrier, of course - reasonable variety is always good.
  12. As a person who spent over 300 hours in Fallout 2, 25 hours in Fallout 3 and 228 hours (so far) in FNV, I say don't listen to these infidels. And East coast is oh so boring. Now, Seattle, LA, San Francisco (with many references to F2) or even Utah/Colorado...!!! Texas and Chicago would please me too. Whatever would Obsidian choose (or will choose or did choose) for a new Fallout setting, it would be no doubt addictive (for Fallout fans) again.
  13. Steamworks is hardly only a DRM solution. People who like to have games in one place and the place is Steam don't mind Steam running, else they wouldn't choose Steam as the one place to have their games in. Same with people who don't like an application running in the background and people with internet so unstable, that they can't even log in to Steam. The added value of Steamworks is mainly for the developer, but there are some for players as well. Namely statistics, achievements, cloud saves and maybe more. So again, the fact that you don't see a reason doesn't mean it doesn't exist. This whole discussion is pointless. If Obsidian doesn't want Steamworks API to be included in PE (and a dev input on this would be nice), the game will most likely be launchable independently on Steam client. If they do want Steamworks (which I fully understand), it will be launching through Steam client. Reminder: GOG.com
  14. Is that why it taught me (and many many other people I know) to actually buy games instead of pirating them? For many people, Steam (and even Origin) has some added value. The fact that you don't see it doesn't mean it's nonexistent. Obsidian went the ideal way - they offer both Steam and non-Steam versions, therefore OP's post is pointless and the discussion should have stopped long ago before it turns into general Steam/Origin/Uplay/GFWL bashing. We sure can do that! But let's move over to Computer and Console.
  15. I loved how Alpha Protocol did the good/evil thing. Seamless, rewarding and with massive gray levels.
  16. Makes sense. I still miss the joke though and I find that disturbing after 3 playthroughs of AP :D I also have no idea why would you post on GB first. All I know about you (or think I know) is that I saw your name or Codex. Yes, I'm socially awkward.
  17. Is that a wild guess or something you can source? I'd want Jim Carrey as Batman.
  18. I pray for AP2 or a new Fallout. But it will most likely be something entirely new . . . which is also awesome!
  19. So you're just a knee-jerk defensist? You don't know a thing about what Obsidian wants, and how would you form a logical argument around Obsidian wanting something unnecessary and unbeneficial, not to mention added work and wasted time (which you pretended to care about), particularly when they openly show and state that they have no qualms with releasing the game DRM-free? They don't need you to come to their rescue, particularly where there is no attack, lol. Maybe you have an idea of less than you think? First of all, I said "maybe". The fact that such course would be "unbeneficial" to you doesn't mean that it's inconvenient for everyone else. Added work is rather minor. I don't come to their rescue, I would like to rescue myself from potential buginess because of one person who just doesn't get it. So maybe you'd like to (finally) point out why won't you buy the game on GOG as many people suggested. However, I doubt you will do that, so I suggest locking the thread as it won't lead to anything except repetition, insults, stubbornness and other things a healthy community should avoid. There is no such thing in the Steam client. You can log in and then disconnect without the client noticing (except the friends network).
  20. Well I don't know, maybe because the developers would like to have to game on Steamworks? Seriously, I have no idea what your deal is. It's been suggested before, and I guess I'll suggest it again. Get it on GOG. That's why they made that option... so "go home" yourself
  21. Is this a troll attempt? I see no reason whatsoever why would Obsidian consider even thinking about wasting time on a feature absurd like making Steam version somewhat independent on the client. If you are afraid of, as you claim, tracking and if you don't care about achievements, why on earth would you buy Steam version instead of the GOG one? To have it visible in Steam "app"? You can boast with your copy on GOG shelf too.
  22. I don't think that's up to them. Besides, I don't see anything bad about first-person camera Fallout. We're going to have Wasteland 2 for isometric postapo (even though not taking place in the awesome Fallout universe). Besides, any Fallout by Obsidian will most likely be better than anything Bethesda could ever come up with.
  23. I think there's only one "chaotic-ish" ending I can think of, but I wouldn't call it evil. More like individualist :D
  24. @ Huinehtar Firstly, "cloud gaming" is something else than you think it is. It's streaming games through services like Gaikai or OnLive. But I understand what you mean...however! I think DRM or distribution platform is not up to the developer. Also, I doubt that ditching any kind of DRM would help the game to get ported to Linux. Specifically, in case of a Gamebryo 1.5 (Creation engine), I don't see that happening... I have the same issue, but it's for Origin games instead. What I do is that I use the only power I have to express my distaste of this service - I (don't) use my wallet and I don't buy the games that are only on Origin . As for me, I would -really- like to see new Fallout on Steam, mainly because of Workshop and the game hub in general... but again, it's not up to the dev (unless the dev is also a publisher :D )
