Ultima 7 will let you play a woman, though you may want to read up on the earlier Ultimas -- specifically the age of enlightenment trilogy -- before starting the game. Not necessary but good background. I would also keep a pen and journal within reach while playing the game... Or a text editor. You are also expected to read the manual before playing.

Will definitely read as much as possible the first time unless the writing is not good. Got a suggested one to start with?

Shadowrun bundle for the criminally low price of $7.18 since I already have Shadowrun Returns. Criminally tempting. EDIT: $7.16. Caved in. Don't know when I'll play them though. How time consuming are they?

That to me seems like improper configuration or bad software support for resolution scaling. I don't remember how it's done in Windows but in systems that use the X Window system you just set either the font to be larger or the dpi to be denser in .Xdefaults or .Xresources and restart X. In Windows you can get there just by doing some right click stuff I'm pretty sure.

There are some 40" UHD TVs still but many TVs are 55" minimum and newer TVs continue to be made larger each year, so I don't think the monitor category will go away anytime soon. Personally 40" would be the largest monitor I would consider though at the same time my preference. For TV by comparison I would like at least 80" if I were buying new; such technology is still very expensive though.

SEVEN POINTS Planescape: Torment Wasteland Quake Quake 3: Arena Quake Live THREE POINTS Ultima 7: The Black Gate Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss Fallout Torment: Tides of Numenera Maybe Fallout 2. I hate the intro so it's not easy to replay. I would probably play Quake 2, Quake 4, or any of the Unreal Tournaments if they suddenly became active again. I haven't played them much though -- watched more than played to be honest -- so I don't think listing them would be appropriate. The only games released since 2013 that I've played are Wasteland 2, Torment: Tides of Numenera, and Quake Champions... Plus there are some old classics that need to be played like Arcanum. Much ground to be covered.

Project Indiana Job Ads - from multiplatform to console?
Jozape replied to Infinitron's topic in Obsidian General
I feel like this game has been teased forever now but I still don't know what it is beyond people who liked the humor in Arcanum and Fallout should appreciate the humor in this game. So eager for a reveal. -
Please tell me you're lying. Considering how much love they throw towards D:OS2 I wouldn't be surprised if someone there wants to purchase Larian.

Other than the graphics, is there anything you thought could be outdated about the game?
-
The only one I was sure of was #1 which is role-playing games and is almost the only category I play. Maybe "horror" games at #11. I would have preferred to group them too. Q10 is stupid. One can't recommend a new game simply because of who developed it. At least one shouldn't.

Won't this depend on what type of ending you want and what type of character you play? I guess since you've never completed the game before you couldn't guess on the former. I haven't played in 6 or 7 years since so I can't give specifics, but I've played it once with a character that didn't do any build optimization and I didn't have too many issues completing the game... though I did need quite a few reloads to see only one of the endings. That could be frustrating for him depending on his patience. Also you should stay with a character until you complete the game sometime. It's not as time consuming as other popular RPGs for one play-through; 15 hours should be sufficient. 20 if you are slow.

Since companies don't provide us with free demos these days, a few watches of different "let's play" youtube videos are highly recommended before any buy, imo. Personally, after withstanding the camera of NW2, the worst camera ever, imo, and that of DA:I, I had no problem with DOS2's camera, which I don't find any bad at all actually. OK good point, NWN 2's camera is horrendous. How did they release the final game in that state?! And it's never been fixed! I shall attempt to try it again, maybe it just requires some getting used to. Sawyer has said that they tried to make several cameras to try to please everyone but in the end they made none of them well and pleased no one. Personally I didn't find it that bad after several hours of playing and trying the different cameras. Takes getting used to though.

Dragon Age: Origins has a highlight option IIRC so that's not surprising. Plus I don't think they tried to do any of the camera puzzles that Larian is known for doing. At Least I don't remember such camera games. One thing I really wish other games with rotatable cameras would take from Larian's camera is the automatic transparency of cover based on your camera and character position. But Deadfire has a static camera, so...

Agreed. Anything that's first-person can benefit from this really but game developers need to abandon the weird novelty controls and movement for most things. Keyboard and mouse really should be okay as long as you're not one of those kids raised on nothing but smartphones. Any conventional controls that normally require muscle memory should be okay really.

The R3 Summit Ridges serve as a substitute until the R3 and R5 Raven Ridges release which seems to be some months away. Also its a way to get into the platform on a budget. I almost bought an R3 because I intended to buy an 8-or-more-core CPU based on Zen 2 next year or the year after. I settled on the R5 1600 though as its twice as fast in most non-gaming applications and I didn't want to gamble on AMD or ASUS maintaining compatibility. AMD said they would maintain compatibility but both AMD and Intel have lied before.

Obsidian's Cancelled Stormlands Project Revealed
Jozape replied to Infinitron's topic in Obsidian General
It doesn't seem like it would have been a good role-playing game honestly. Vague ideas, dialogue wheel, no RTwP, massively multi-player, etc. Plus being an XB1 exclusive is not a plus. I like the path Obsidian has followed since much more. -
Yes, many of the Infinity Engine games had multi-player as did the primarily multi-player Neverwinter Nights games. Most of us are aware of the existence of those games and have played them. No "google" -- that's web search and I use DuckDuckGo thanks -- needed on these forums. Most of us have also played many more older CRPGs that have no multi-player, and some of them are excellent like the Ultima games, Wasteland, Darklands, Fallout, Planescape: Torment, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Wasteland and Planescape: Torment are my favourite CRPGs of all time. So to answer your question, they come from more than 30 years of CRPGs. Party members aren't necessarily controlled by the player; Many games have had optional scripts you can make and use for them. Dragon Age: Origins had some really good scripting that could be applied to any party member including the player character.

Good that you can at least admit that you were mistaken. Human daylight vision is actually among the best on Earth, beaten only by some apex birds. Using some basic geometry and assuming you have 20/10 or 6/3 vision -- good, but not close to the best possible human vision -- you can calculate that you can resolve pixels on a 7680x4320 pixels screen at an angle of view equal to 60 degrees. 60 degrees is only really achievable on desktop monitor and television screens though as you need to view from a distance equal to 3/4 of the measure of your screen's diagonal assuming a screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio. 30 to 40 degrees is common for smartphone, tablet, and laptop monitor screens; Not much more than 3840x2160 is resolvable for a person with 20/10 or 6/3 vision at such viewing angles. 3840x2160 is almost resolvable at 30 degrees and 5120x2880 is almost resolvable at 40 degrees. Benefits from more pixels doesn't end at what you can resolve though. More pixels means you have less aliasing caused by representing a continuous signal with discrete elements aka pixels. Realistically you shouldn't need much more than 2x or maybe 4x the resolution to get an image indistinguishable from perfect.

I'm not sure what I want other than anything but either generic high fantasy or anything too close to it. Some settings in games that interest me are BioShock, Alpha Protocol, Fallout, Wasteland, Prey, Numenera, Planescape, Wolfenstein, and some others to a lesser degree. Unfortunately many of the settings in games that I like are not ever a setting for a role-playing game. Generally speaking hard sci-fi interests me too. Bio and neuro seem to have the most potential on one end with crypto and info on the other end, but physics is my favorite subject. Unfortunately physics is more difficult to do, at least that's my perception.

I've only dabbled with most of them. The ones I've actually managed to play much are Wasteland 2 and Tides of Numenera. I played Wasteland 2 twice already since starting in February actually. Waiting for the content update to replay Tides of Numenera. I like both though I prefer Tides of Numenera and I think it's closer to its predecessor in quality. Neither are as good as their predecessors when taken as a whole but still enjoyable.

I like the name if nothing else. I have Shadow of the Colossus but I hate it; I don't know how anyone can stand the camera or frame drops in that game. The latter shouldn't be a problem in this era though...

I never finished PoE either -- I have played less than 10 hours according to GOG -- but I'm glad to have contributed to the KickStarter campaign. I'm only waiting for Obsidian to announce something with a universe I can actually enjoy these days. Maybe I'll become less allergic to Middle Earth and Forgotten Realms in the future but I can't play anything in those types of worlds at this time. ...yet here I am reading about Deadfire. I guess I am at least interested in the design.

I don't think the enhanced edition will change much with respect to the game's feel since it's not that biased towards violent encounters. At best you might get a not much better user interface.
