I'm Time's Person Of The Year
LOL @ the Lebowski Urban Achievers. I think "cop out" is a more accurate description of the article than "sell out," and that's probably what that fella meant. I can see their point, but it's still pretty wishy-washy. Gimme a profile of someone who has done great things to change the world, not a forum for fake teenage drama queens! Or Chuck Norris. I could have lived with Chuck Norris.

NFL 2006 Season
More football-related news (as I'm finding it very difficult to concentrate on honest work this Friday afternoon): Brady and Bridget are no more! NOW we know where that 78 yard, no-TD performance against the Dolphins came from last week! I thought this bit was funny:

Strangely enough, the roommate in question discovered the joys of Phish at about the same time he plunged into that magical world himself. Damn hippies. Always eating all the cheese balls and never washing themselves. Goldfinger - Carlita

Haha, that's right. "It's okay, baby. You can trust Ron Mexico." Seriously, what woman would believe your name was really Ron Mexico? I would have used Liam Luxembourg, myself. Or maybe Jerry Madagascar. Those are some sweet aliases.

I agree; she wants to cash in. $6.3 million is probably a lot of money for a undrafted, third-string QB for the 'Phins. Poor Marcus.

Mama Vick sure raised some classy boys. Now it's Marcus' turn to get in trouble. LINK

How 'bout that Alex Smith! I didn't see the game, but apparently he threw for two and ran for one score in the fourth quarter to stop the Seahawks from clinching the division.

Eragon Reviews
I was waiting for a thread about this flick to pop up. Frankly, I'm surprised it took this long. So what's the deal? It was a fantasy book written by some kid? Does it have any ties to known franchises, or is it a standalone novel? All I know is that I see an ad for it every time I turn on the TV, and that the early reviews I've read have not been kind.

^ Nice! I got burned out on Phish back in college because my roommate listened to them pretty much 24/7. That, more than any dislike for hemp jewelry or hacky-sack, forged my hatred of Phish and their hippie followers. Still, I admit they were great on their respective instruments and they wrote some very good songs. I mean, look at this Letterman performance from '94. And I know it's hard, but try to disregard their ridiculous appearance - they're actually ripping it up, and I give 'em props for that. Phish -

NFL 2006 Season
Yeah, records make news and that buzz gives them a leg up in the award race. I don't know how many times I saw Hester's returns replayed this week. Hell, Young's stats are far from spectacular, but I think he has a chance just because he keeps leading the Titans to comeback victories.

I would go with Colston, even though his injury is hurting his chances for the award, as the others (especially Young, despite his "meh" statline) have really come on strong lately.

NFL 2006 Season
Not really, I just checked. Bushhas 405 rushing and 687 receiving for about 1,100. Jones-Drew has 666 rushing and 332 receiving for about 1,000. MJD is hustling for more than six yards per carry, too! Bush is at about three yards per carry and even his yard per reception average is less than Drew's.

^ Han Solo On topic: Maybe after that ridiculous game against the Colts, Maurice Jones-Drew will finally get some props, instead of being "that other running back from a Pac-10 school." I know, I know, Christopher Reeve could rush for 200 yards and 2 TDs against the Colts, but Drew has been all about the consistency this year. Check out the total TDs this year: MJD: 12 (scored in 9 games, including the last five) Bush: 7 (4 in one game)

Shuffling off
Interesting article! Although too many Brits are expatriating to the U.S. and stealing our women with their charming table manners and upperclass sense of sophistication. Or at least that's what I've gleaned from watching several American romantic comedies.

Oh yeah, lots of people have spent some time in Paris Hilton. I hear it's real comfy, if a little roomy...

Dammit. I guess that's why I shouldn't get drunk at work. (insert punchline drum fill here) The new set isn't really a "new" album, is it? I got the impression it was sort of a collection of unreleased stuff from throughout the years.

Ah man. It's stuff like that that makes me think "If I did pick up that supersized Waits album, I'd like the 'Bawlers' disc the best." No, Pidesco, I've got Closing Time, Small Change, Heartattack and Vine, Swordfishtrombones, Rain Dogs and a few live bootlegs. No Use for a Name - Let Me Down

Jeffrey Lewis - Don't Be Upset Very interesting sort of indie-singer-songwriter sound. Cool. Also, the Tom Waits-a-thon a few days back (esp. Baley's "I Wish I Was in New Orleans") inspired me to pull out my old Waits CDs. I remember driving across Illinois listening to Swordfishtrombones and freaking out a bit. I'd been driving alone for 10 hours or so (on my way to a job interview), and there was nothing but cornfields in every direction. I was in a weirded-out state of mind anyway, and hearing tales about a guy who "shot billiards with a midget 'til the rain stopped" just enhanced the surreal feeling.

Come on, P! I'll never be able to listen to that song you sent me until I can play those damn Apple extensions. Before "The Great Format of 2006" I used to be able to listen to them, so I know the ability exists. I guess that file type isn't supported in my primitive version of Winamp, though. And I don't want to upgrade, mostly because I'm afraid the later versions will steal all my RAM and want to hook me up to teh Interweb and rearrange my music folder, etc. etc. Counting Crows - Angels of the Silences

I can see the commercial now... Michael Vick jukes two linebackers and a safety on his way to the end zone. After tossing the ball to an official, the star QB looks into the camera and says, "I don't let genital herpes get ME down!" Then he gives the crowd the finger. )
