James Brown
Kids these days probably don't really know nor care much about James Brown. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, all they care about is updating their MySpace pages and their crappy screamo bands and their nuclear jetpacks. Damn kids! But seriously, the Hardest-Working Man in Show Business has earned his rest.

NFL 2006 Season
Now Strahan can devote more time to filming Subway commercials! I hear he went out clubbing with Jared the other night and they were giving out free six-inch subs! Then they did some blow and beat up Jimmy Fallon for making some lame joke. Man, that would be sweet. Oh, and on-topic, the Colts lost to the Texans. Ron Dayne ran for 150 yards and two TDs. How lame is that?

My first knowledge of the man known as "Swamp Dogg" came while gazing with horror and delight at some of the worst album covers ever, as collected in a coffee table book I was perusing at the local chain bookstore. Rat On! and other hilarious album covers can be seen here. The Posies - Golden Blunders

Gerald Ford Dead
yeah, and I read that he was actually one of the most athletic men to occupy the office but, for some reason, he was always tripping and stumbling (off airplanes and the like) and that may have, more than anything else, hurt his chances of remaining in office. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah... he had a lot of blooper-reel moments, which earned him that reputation as a clumsy oaf. Still, he was a top-notch athlete in his day. He actually played on two undefeated football teams at the University of Michigan in the 1930s.

Funny story... in my dorm days, maybe sophomore year of college, my roommate and I thought it would be a good idea to play that song on loop all day. We left the windows open, locked the door, and left. It was still blaring when we got back a few hours later. Okay, maybe it wasn't quite so funny. I guess you had to be there. I tried to upload some of the Los Straitjackets Christmas album a bit ago, but it wasn't taking. I think Lou in particular would enjoy their surf-rock interpretations of traditional Christmas tunes. I mean, they do "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" over the rhythm from The Ventures' "Pipeline." You know Baby Jesus dug the **** Dale, so this one's a winner. I'm taking a break from the Yuletide carols... Tom Waits - (Looking for) The Heart of Saturday Night And go Replacements!

I've got problems with you people and now you're going to hear about them!- The Music Thread
That's weird, Lou. I've always heard people say "Winterlong" is one of the better b-sides. It's a Neil Young cover, right? The Twilight Singers - High quality live video, the volume's a bit low, but it's mixed very well. There's a bit of a "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" tease in there too. I wish that guitar solo was on the album version. Damn!- The Music Thread
I don't think I've heard that one. What era pixies are we talking here? Frank Black & the Catholics - Coastline- Its been awhile, post your desktop image!
It's Nighthawks, by Edward Hopper. Here's a LINK with some interesting info on the piece.- NHL
Ha! I saw that punch on SportsCenter today, and it made 'Melo look like a limp-wristed pansy. Also, the whole "Vote for Rory" thing is hilarious. You crazy hockey fans and your hairbrained schemes. Now, don't expect me in here too much - I just wanted to see what you guys were saying about the Penguins situation.- The Music Thread
Wow... slick stuff. I love the bassline. So "umi" is "mother" in Arabic? The Beatles - Baby's In Black Great song, funny lip-synched performance.- The Music Thread

@ Kor: Yeah, I like that site because I don't even have to download the songs or have a media player in the background to listen to them at work. And the Whigs were on fire on that show. @ Baley: Those guys sound all right. And they're probably just indie dorks - I don't think they're "punk" enough to be PETA activists. I'm looking at you, John Feldmann. The Twilight Singers were on NPR's World Cafe yesterday. Dulli and Lanegan answer some questions and the band plays three songs. The whole thing is about 20-25 minutes long. LINK- Movies You Have Seen Lately
Top Secret! Another classic ZAZ joint. That's the one with Val Kilmer as the hero, right?- The Music Thread - Currently Listening To
Mmmmmmm.... yeah. ^ for the song, too! Psalm 62:11 - They shall be delivered into the hands of the sword, they shall be the portions of foxes. Afghan Whigs - My Curse Edit: fixed the link- The Music Thread - Currently Listening To
Man, Draken, I forgot about that song. It wasn't on the album, if I remember right, just the movie. It's like a fleshed-out version of "Empty Spaces." And, yeah, those flowers are... mesmerizing. Am I right? Handsome Boy Modeling School - Once Again (Here to Kick One for You)- Movies You Have Seen Lately
I get it! Did you know: Metallica used to open their concerts with that playing over the PA as they took the stage. Can't say I've seen any flicks lately. I did catch about 20 minutes of A Charlie Brown Christmas the other day though.- The Music Thread - Currently Listening To
Wow.... just wow. Sometimes I forget just how believable This is Spinal Tap really is... then I see real, irony-free heavy metal lyrics like those. Although the whole dog training metaphor in Tap's " " made that one much more fun. :D Frank Black - Superabound- The Music Thread - Currently Listening To
Gimme a day or two to digest it before I pass final judgment, heh. I've only listened to a few tracks so far, and it's exactly what I expected: Ness burning through his favorite old outlaw country songs and broken-hearted ballads. The Social D fans who hated Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell probably would hate this one too. If you like some rockabilly with your punk rock, as I do on occasion, you've got a good chance of liking this one. Mike Ness - Six More Miles (to the Graveyard)- The Music Thread - Currently Listening To
^ Cool song. Mike Ness - Big Iron (Marty Robbins cover) In this town there lived an outlaw by the name of Texas Red Many men had tried to take him and that many men were dead He was vicious and a killer though a youth of twenty-four And the notches on his pistol numbered one and nineteen more One and nineteen more- The Music Thread - Currently Listening To
The Donnas - Strutter (KISS cover) Man, these girls know how to rock out. Not in the yelping-I-want-to-be-PJ Harvey-so-much-it-hurts way, either, like that Yeah Yeah Yeahs crap. They're cute too. Except the bass player (ain't that always the way it goes ). - Happy Festivus!!!
