  1. Cherry Poppin' Daddies - Master and Slave About once a year, I undergo my own "swing revival" and toss this album in the player. Slick arrangements, tight playing and pervy lyrics make the Daddies my swing revivalists of choice.
  2. I thought it was funny. I know I would be surprised if my employer made that phone call to me. But nobody smokes dope at my work (or so I think...), so it probably wouldn't happen.
  3. I can only base my judgment on the one song Baley linked, 'cause that's the only one I've heard. However, I like how it's slowed down, and I like the soul feel to it (I can't place the sample, but I feel like I've heard it before). Doesn't seem like a party Snoop song, more like something to which you might chill on your porch. You know, "chillaxin." Snoop's got the same problem as every other aging artist who already painted his masterpiece: he's never going to match Doggystyle. If he tries, it will just be another Snoop party album that's not as good. So he needs to diversify his sound, while not abandoning his strengths (that silky-smooth flow). edit: Neko Case - Bowling Green
  4. Yes, happy birthday, Krookie! (I might be a day late in jumping that bandwagon) I'm almost ready to start actually doing work at work. Just a few more minutes of Web browsing...
  5. No you did not. Down on the Upside was actually something like the third CD I bought, back in '96. I got into Soundgarden backwards, as I've done with many other bands from "before my time." Teenage Fanclub - Who Loves the Sun (Velvet Underground cover) Nice find, Kor. I actually have the original somewhere. Or at least I thought I did... maybe that was someone else's CD. Edit: The new Snoop is sweeeeeeet, and not a "hizzy" to be heard. At least not yet.
  6. The way I see it, all tarna did was inform the lady that her link would be more inviting with a bit of information about what it actually was. Putting him on ignore for that was petty and childish. Her reaction was uncalled for, and you are being an ass for considering that reason enough to fire a mod.
  7. Wow, that Jeffrey Lewis fella seems to write some interesting stuff. Also, Muso, it's okay to listen to Soundgarden every once in a while. Just because you bring out Badmotorfinger or Ultramega OK once in a blue moon, it doesn't mean you're doomed to put on a flannel and ripped jeans and go yell at your dad about your teenage angst. The Jayhawks - Save it for a Rainy Day
  8. Steve Earle - Devil's Right Hand My very first pistol was a cap and ball Colt Shoots as fast as lightnin' but she loads a mite slow She loads a mite slow, and soon I found out She can get you into trouble but she can't get you out
  9. I suppose... as long as its not Les Claypool. I get so sick of that guy. And slap bass in general, if it isn't on a funk album. I'm putting on my coat and getting ready for the drive home! )
  10. The Lou Gutman Project - Baley's Blues I hear the guitarist for these guys is a bit of a recluse. They say he lives in some Buddhist temple in the mountains of Singapore, and only comes down to buy new strings.
  11. I'm wondering if I have any more Vice Presidents recordings to offer to the Member Gallery. I know I've got recordings from my other college band, but I just played bass on those. And everybody knows bass guitar is borrr-rinnnng.
  12. Rocket From the Crypt - Born in '69
  13. I'm killing time until 5:30, when I can go home, go for a run, and eat dinner. Also, metadigital has about 5500 WOT posts, dwarfing my measly 1200. Is his total more than the K-Man?
  14. Ah fun subject. I took a class on early American history as part of my collegiate career; it covered much of the same stuff. I also took classes on the Soviet Union, Japan and the British Empire, but I don't remember any "History of the Nordic Countries" being offered. Personally, I've been at work trying to line up interviews all day.
  15. Flash drives man, flash drives. I hear my old college is giving them to incoming freshmen these days. And by "giving" I'm sure I mean "adding $39.99 to their tuition." Our boss actually gave a lot of the employees 512 MB USB flash drives last month. You know, in case we want to take our work home with us.
  16. Goddamn I love Social Distortion. I almost picked up Mike Ness' first solo album last week. It was eight bucks at Record Exchange. I bought the first Cracker album instead... I'd been jonesing for it since I lost my copy some months ago. Edit: for spelling mistakes
  17. Oh man, you're lucky. I follow that band religiously. I even slept with the lead singer. Megadeth- Gears of War <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You shouldn't brag about that, Lou. They're not very good. ^_^ And as for you Draken... you should get yourself checked. If you know what I mean. The Clash - Rudie Can't Fail
  18. Todd Snider - Thin Wild Mercury To me, one of the most interesting periods in rock history was when Bob Dylan picked up an electric guitar and alienated more than half his fanbase. Snider wrote this song about one of the heated arguments about that time in Dylan history. On the way to the airport, Dylan threw fellow singer-songwriter Phil Ochs out of his limousine, and - metaphorically and literally - left him behind. It was all over some new Dylan song That Phil had the nerve to say sounded wrong Dylan stopped the car, his words shook like a fist "Phil, you ain't a writer, you're a journalist" Death of a rebel, twist of fate If he ever thought better, he thought too late Poor Phil Ochs, he slipped through the cracks Judas went electric and he never looked back
  19. Well, it's official. Broncos fans, meet your new QB: LINK
  20. Yeah, any film with Walken in it can't be all bad. As for the CR theme: I like Chris Cornell a lot, I just don't like him as a choice for a Bond theme. I was quite the Cornell worshipper in my youth, and hearing him in that intro really threw me.
  21. "Sucks to your Ass-mar!" Am I the only one who thinks of poor Piggy whenever someone mentions those half-angel characters? I picked up NCAA Football 2005 and Top Spin on one Xbox disc, used, for $2.99 yesterday. So far I really suck at this Top Spin game.
  22. I watched a few movies this weekend. The wife and I went to see Casino Royale on Friday. We had just watched "A View to a Kill" the week before - a Roger Moore film with Christopher Walken as the villain. Not a very good Bond film, but the lowlight was when Bond got down to business with... Grace Jones. With that perspective, it was unbelievable how much more intense movies in general have become in the last 20 years or so. The chase that ended at the embassy? Now that's action. It makes the older movies seem unbelievably dated. Daniel Craig was fantastic as Bond. The ladies love the guy, and I've got to say - that torture scene would have been torture on the viewers too if Pierce Brosnan was on display. Edit: Thanks Surr. Must have still been thinking about Roger Moore. I think "A View to a Kill" was done by Duran Duran, am I right? Speaking of Bond title songs performed by men - Chris Cornell's song for Casino Royale sounded pretty bad on his Myspace page, but it did a lot better on the big screen with the visual cues in the credits montage.
  23. Handsome Boy Modeling School - The Truth Now that goes down smooth.
  24. ahem... LOL @ Urlacher for for getting juked by TOM BRADY. The Bears did run the ball well though, so I give them credit for that.
  25. Oh man, that song rocks so hard. I was in the car the other day flipping through the stations, and I heard an awful corporate country cover of Ryan Adams' "When the Stars Go Blue." It turned out to be Tim McGraw, he of the barbeque stain on his white t-shirt. Terrible. Thing is, I wouldn't have thought it was so bad if I hadn't known and loved the original first. Kind of like the original "Gone Daddy Gone," except that Gnarls Barkley actually did a good job with the song.
