  1. Okay, they definitely don't look like hippies. And you know, they don't sound like hippies either. I was actually a few steps ahead of you, and checked out the site and downloaded the song you mentioned. I'm about five minutes into Repentance and I like it. The music is awesome, and it really carries the song through the tempo and style changes. I would like the vocals to be mixed higher though. I assume she's singing in Finnish? I guess with a name like that you have to rock pretty hard so you don't get put on a bill with The String Cheese Incident by accident.
  2. Done. Yeah, I agree with Astr0 that you'll get a lot of extra games listed in that "other" section.
  3. All right, suit yourself. And you're right about the ending. I mean, seven books, God knows how many pages - all leading up to him opening that door at the top of the tower. It was a letdown waiting to happen; there was no way King could have done anything to prevent it.
  4. Are you kidding? Roland didn't exactly lead the charmed life. Sure, you'd be really good at shooting things, but still! Everyone you love getting killed one way or another, getting your fingers bitten off by lobstrosities, catching your mom in the act of adultery -- there's never a happy ending in his world. And did you read the last book, when Roland finally reaches the top of his fabled Tower?
  5. Sounds like a bunch of hippies to me. They probably make music in between hacky-sack sessions. So, are they some kind of Grateful Dead cover band? Whiskeytown - Losering
  6. Good analogy. In my experience, it's rare to find a tab that's actually spot-on. Half of them aren't even in the right key, and even the good ones usually leave out a solo or two. Sheet music should be for if you absolutely have to have every note correct. Tabs were always useful as a starting point, especially for beginners who haven't trained their ear yet to sound out the chords. Ah well, I guess the future is closer than we think: That was a gem worth revisiting. :D
  7. Teenage Fanclub - Tears Are Cool
  8. Yet another birthday thread, I know... but this one is for esteemed member Kor Qel Droma! So, happy birthday to a nice guy with great taste in music! And since he got me into Teenage Fanclub... here is my hastily-found birthday present. :D
  9. I love how the entire "what are you playing" thread keeps veering into a discussion of the merits (or lack thereof) of a single NPC. Anyway, the removal of that pesky "y" in "your" satisfies me immensely. Anyway, I'll probably play some more BG1 tonight.
  10. Yes, listened last night actually. I like the slowed-down, coffeeshop feel of it. My friend's version is definitely closer to the Iron and Wine version. Thanks buddy! The Verve - Lucky Man (not an ELP cover)
  11. The Decemberists - We Both Go Down Together on Sirius Satellite Radio. I guess you can listen online for free for today and tomorrow. I'll probably have five "Buy Sirius today!" e-mails per day from them now or something.
  12. You must have a lot of closet space. Pixies probably doesn't have enough time to make the LEGO OE forum movie... he's probably too busy getting pysched for the new pixies album!!!17!!!! (Which I personally think is a bad idea, sure to disappoint, tarnishing their legacy while selling a bazillion copies)
  13. Paul Simon - Graceland the Mississippi Delta is shining like a national guitar Always loved that line.
  14. Wow... I missed the contact lens discussion. No matter how drunk I get (and I have been falling down, puking in the streets drunk on several occasions) I always take my contacts out before hitting the sack. It's habit, like brushing your teeth. Sometimes I don't remember doing it, but I always do it. I can't even take a nap with my contacts in. Sleeping with them in gives you the feeling that your eyes are crusted over and can't even open... it's awful. Lasik eye surgery is an option, but not for a recent college grad like myself. I lack the funds (and the inclination to get my eyes cut open... I know it's safe, it just sounds creepy when you read about it).
  15. Nice work, Wals. More spambots should post like that.
  16. Hate the way he says that! Hate, hate, hate! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You know, every time I hear that particular bit I think: Shouldn't it be "Your quest is in vain?" Because the quest isn't checking itself out in the mirror all the time, you know. He's trying to say "Fight all the evil you want, it doesn't make a difference to this harsh, unforgiving world," at least that's how I interpret it. Although, "Your questing is vain" would work too, because then he's disparaging the hero's vanity in fighting evil in the pursuit of glory. Grammatical ramblings aside, I took care of the spidery section of Cloakwood Forest last night and got a much better version of events with the spider queen because Xan was in the party. I seriously thought that quest was broken the first time I attempted it because Fatty told her story and didn't die or leave. Xan's resolution for that quest was much better.
  17. Hey, wasn't Quan Chi a character in one of the big fighting franchises? I don't think it was Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter, but maybe Tekken or Soul Calibur? And maybe he's a big Patrick Ewing fan... the big guy wore No. 33 for the Knicks, you know. Yeah, that's probably it.
  18. Xanth ... now, that would be a world to jump into! Man, I read all those books when I was a kid. Probably the cause of my warped sense of humor and irrational love of verbal puns.
  19. You guys and your "current generation" games! I can't wait to get home and cut my way through the Cloakwood Forest to the mines that await me... Oh, and I'm thinking Xan is one of the greatest NPCs I've ran across in my RPG travels. I'm bringing him along despite his painful lack of evocation spells just because I enjoy his interjections so much. (sigh) I suppose you're wondering what a mage is doing with a sword, aren't you? Maybe I'll play NWN2 in 10 years or so... after I give NWN another try. Never made it too far in that one before abandoning it.
  20. The Beatles - Baby's in Black
  21. It's typical Jack Thompson. I saw in a related article that he tried to get a judge to ban Bully from stores, and when the judge ruled in the game's favor Thompson said it was the equivalent of misleading UN inspectors about weapons of mass destruction. Sorry for the aside. I can't really contribute anything on-topic, because my computer doesn't even come close to the minimum specs for this game.
  22. Soundgarden - Pretty Noose
  23. Bully... you mean "homosexuality simulator," right?
  24. Most of the videos I found on YouTube just had the second half of that performance, for some reason. Whiskeytown - Not Home Anymore Is Strangers Almanac the definitive alt-country album? Most people would say no... I would say ... maybe! It's definitely my favorite Ryan Adams-related album, that much is sure.
  25. The Police - Can't Stand Losing You Now it's the Backbeat Band - Money/Long Tall Sally 1994: Greg Dulli / Afghan Whigs, Twilight Singers Dave Grohl / Nirvana, Foos, QOTSA, Probot, Pete Yorn Dave Pirner / Soul Asylum Thurston Moore / Sonic Youth Mike Mills / R.E.M., Hindu Love Gods Don Fleming / Gumball It's basically an alt-rock all-star band covering songs the Beatles covered in their bar band days. Oh, and it kills. I love that if there's a 30 second instrumental break, Dulli smokes a cigarette. :D
