  1. I can't remember if I posted this before, or just talked about it at work, but "Don't Stop Me Now" in Shaun of the Dead was one of the most memorable musical sequences in film, EVAR!
  2. As long as the defense keeps scoring two touchdowns a game, the Bears will be fine. Does anyone care about the game tonight? I don't really care who wins, but I need seven points to win my fantasy matchup this week. I've got Steve Smith going for the Panthers and L.J. Smith for the Eagles. Hopefully at least one of them has a big game.
  3. Yeah, I think so. And the "Back... Jack... do it again" band as well, I think. This one is a real genrebender. Prog-punk-reggae? It's like one part 40 oz. to Freedom, two parts The Decline, for lack of a better comparison.
  4. Guess I'd better haul this back onto page one, eh? Dexy's Midnight Runners - There There, My Dear Oh, and I'm not too well versed on Steely Dan, but everything of theirs that I've heard has been good. You can count on them for a slick-sounding song, that's for sure.
  5. Haha, Grossman was awful. I don't mind though, because this week's fantasy football opponent started him at QB. I can't wait to see how many negative points he gives her. Oh, the missus and I went to the Browns/Chiefs game this afternoon. I'm not a Browns fan, but it was impossible not to get caught up in that comeback. What a game! I'm not that invested in any team, really ; I just love watching football. Hell, I sat out in the cold to watch three high school championship football games on Saturday, too. It was quite the gridiron weekend.
  6. I was quite impressed by the slick transition from "Me So Horny" to "66." And Greg's line at the end of Omerta is classic Dulli. Damn -- I wish I knew who the hell they were back when they were still touring!
  7. Oooooh! Live show alert! The Afghan Whigs - Omerta Atlanta 2-26-99
  8. Frank Black - You Can't Crucify Yourself
  9. It's a Harry Potter reference. Little gnome-type thing which was CGI'd in the movies.
  10. Wow... I can't believe they let Gollum let loose the four-letter words! Dobby likes me! LOL
  11. Those guys were pretty good too. A bit less ... intense... than some CPD stuff, but I would consider myself a fan of both bands. "La Grippe" is a favorite of mine on The Inevitable... and their big 1997 album Hot had some good ones on it too. I've got to be in the mood for those type of bands, but when I am, look out! I might... go buy a zoot suit or something. Well, probably not. Tim Easton - They Will Bury You
  12. Cherry Poppin' Daddies - Master and Slave About once a year, I undergo my own "swing revival" and toss this album in the player. Slick arrangements, tight playing and pervy lyrics make the Daddies my swing revivalists of choice.
  13. I thought it was funny. I know I would be surprised if my employer made that phone call to me. But nobody smokes dope at my work (or so I think...), so it probably wouldn't happen.
  14. I can only base my judgment on the one song Baley linked, 'cause that's the only one I've heard. However, I like how it's slowed down, and I like the soul feel to it (I can't place the sample, but I feel like I've heard it before). Doesn't seem like a party Snoop song, more like something to which you might chill on your porch. You know, "chillaxin." Snoop's got the same problem as every other aging artist who already painted his masterpiece: he's never going to match Doggystyle. If he tries, it will just be another Snoop party album that's not as good. So he needs to diversify his sound, while not abandoning his strengths (that silky-smooth flow). edit: Neko Case - Bowling Green
  15. Yes, happy birthday, Krookie! (I might be a day late in jumping that bandwagon) I'm almost ready to start actually doing work at work. Just a few more minutes of Web browsing...
  16. No you did not. Down on the Upside was actually something like the third CD I bought, back in '96. I got into Soundgarden backwards, as I've done with many other bands from "before my time." Teenage Fanclub - Who Loves the Sun (Velvet Underground cover) Nice find, Kor. I actually have the original somewhere. Or at least I thought I did... maybe that was someone else's CD. Edit: The new Snoop is sweeeeeeet, and not a "hizzy" to be heard. At least not yet.
  17. The way I see it, all tarna did was inform the lady that her link would be more inviting with a bit of information about what it actually was. Putting him on ignore for that was petty and childish. Her reaction was uncalled for, and you are being an ass for considering that reason enough to fire a mod.
  18. Wow, that Jeffrey Lewis fella seems to write some interesting stuff. Also, Muso, it's okay to listen to Soundgarden every once in a while. Just because you bring out Badmotorfinger or Ultramega OK once in a blue moon, it doesn't mean you're doomed to put on a flannel and ripped jeans and go yell at your dad about your teenage angst. The Jayhawks - Save it for a Rainy Day
  19. Steve Earle - Devil's Right Hand My very first pistol was a cap and ball Colt Shoots as fast as lightnin' but she loads a mite slow She loads a mite slow, and soon I found out She can get you into trouble but she can't get you out
  20. I suppose... as long as its not Les Claypool. I get so sick of that guy. And slap bass in general, if it isn't on a funk album. I'm putting on my coat and getting ready for the drive home! )
  21. The Lou Gutman Project - Baley's Blues I hear the guitarist for these guys is a bit of a recluse. They say he lives in some Buddhist temple in the mountains of Singapore, and only comes down to buy new strings.
  22. I'm wondering if I have any more Vice Presidents recordings to offer to the Member Gallery. I know I've got recordings from my other college band, but I just played bass on those. And everybody knows bass guitar is borrr-rinnnng.
  23. Rocket From the Crypt - Born in '69
  24. I'm killing time until 5:30, when I can go home, go for a run, and eat dinner. Also, metadigital has about 5500 WOT posts, dwarfing my measly 1200. Is his total more than the K-Man?
  25. Ah fun subject. I took a class on early American history as part of my collegiate career; it covered much of the same stuff. I also took classes on the Soviet Union, Japan and the British Empire, but I don't remember any "History of the Nordic Countries" being offered. Personally, I've been at work trying to line up interviews all day.
