  1. George Orwell's 6 rules for writing: 1. Never use a metaphor, simile or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print. 2. Never use a long word where a short one will do. 3. If it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out. 4. Never use the passive where you can use the active. 5. Never use a foreign phrase, scientific word or jargon if you can think of an everyday English equivalent. 6. Break any of these rules sooner than say anything outright barbarous.
  2. I don't like the concept of free-to-play game that is really a pay to win type game in disguise...but a disgrace to humanity? Over-dramatic much? And I actually agree with Volo. That being said...things like horse armor and Day One DLC are tacky as hell, and smart consumers really shouldn't reward companies that practice such money grabbing tactics.
  3. I'd start with the Ulic Qel Droma and Nomi Sunrider stories at the end of Volume One and continue through Volume 2. Then go back and read the beginning of Volume 1.
  4. Additionally, I could even see this as something that went viral around the Obsidian offices (even projects outside Eternity) and got good lulz from the rest of the company with a minor boost to office morale. Amusing features (and especially bugs) tend to do that.
  5. A good place to start are the original Tales of the Jedi comics from Dark Horse. Lots of the KotOR material were derived from these stories. They varied in quality but I would recommend Dark Lords of the Sith, The Sith War, and especially Redemption. They are actually still in print as an Omnibus collection as Tales of the Jedi Volume 2.
  6. Yeah, I can't believe this is still really an issue. Josh addressed why the feature was put in; it's good for some solid lulz, and wasn't resource heavy to implement.
  7. His tweet to me comes across as tongue in cheek. He also uses "u" and "2" and he never does that, especially not if he is serious. Besides, NBA JAM is the greatest basketball real time strategy game of all time. Big Head Mode is an OBVIOUS homage
  8. Lester will just be a two month rental for Oakland. Cespedes will still be under contract through next year. Barring injuries, I don't see any reason why he wouldn't hit 40 bombs hitting in Fenway. In an ideal scenario for Boston, The Sawx may end up with both Cespy and Lester next year. The A's are definitely going all in this postseason. Detroit - Oakland will be a very interesting matchup. The Tigers have the last three AL Cy Young winners and the last three MVP's. Oakland has Nerdpower.
  9. Yeah, that seems like an incredible haul for Dombrowski. Surely the Rays had better offers.
  10. It's an Arms Race. David Price to the Tigers. A's should now trade Billy Beane to Seattle for Felix Hernandez.
  11. Lester, Gomes, and cash to Oakland. Cespedes goes to the Sawx. ...In Billy We Trust?
  12. No? Am I supposed to know? Medical pun. I'm surprised Lephys never brought it up. Obviously off his game.
  13. Noticed that too. I'm sure they'll still be tweaking CC for a more logical progression. Otherwise, add it to the bug database.
  14. The music in the demo sounds really good btw. Nice job Justin! Granted, I don't really have any expertise or grounding in composition and have absolutely no background in music theory. I only listen to the stuff.
  15. Bronzepoem, you've obviously put a lot of thought into this, but I'm not sure it'll quite work for the game. Mainly, it has to do with allocating resources into a complicated mechanic that will not see much use. Let's face it, most players will not role play an Artful Dodger type thief in a tactical, combat oriented, party based RPG. It may make sense however, if the player character is already pre-defined as a thiefy rogue type with Pickpocketing as a featured and central game mechanic - or if the game was centered around your playing a thief character. As Eternity stands, thematically the game is not consistent with your party being a gang of small time, petty purse snatchers. Instituting a sufficient risk-reward platform for a mechanic that will take up quite a lot of resources with relatively minimal adoption by the player base isn't something that Obsidian could probably afford on their budget. And really though, if I was in combat with monsters and enemies armed with spears, war hammers, and matchlocks...last thing I'd be thinking about is how I can reverse pickpocket a live grenade to a guy who is actively trying to cut me into pieces. It was a fun mechanic in Fallout, but that was really just a novelty. Still, good idea though - for a thief centric RPG!
  16. Hmm...I may have to check out the "new" KotOR comics. Though I prefer the Ulic Qel Droma era... Also saw that there was a planned Nomi and Vima Sunrider novel that got canned. That's a shame; I would've read that.
  17. Big Head Mode! Hahaha!! I can already hear the play by play commentary: "He's on Fire!" - on burning effect. "Boom-Shakka-Lakka!" - on critical hit.
  18. Thanks for the link. Cover lots of the same ground as the other videos but in more detail. The PC Gamer interviewer knows him his Infinity Engine.
  19. I'd like to see the breakdown of backers by country.
  20. Personality Types The player can have a disposition toward ten different personality types: Aggressive – can be interpreted as hot-headed, bold, or impatient. Some character will think that you provoke fight and make only trouble, but others admire you for taking charge, being decisive or not letting people push you around. Benevolent – may be viewed as charitable and kind but others may consider the player weak or assume he or she will do things for free. Clever – gained for being sassy/witty in dialog options. May be well received by some as a sick master of burns, but other characters will assume that you are not to be taken seriously. Cruel – gained for cruel/merciless actions. It doesn't typically earn you a lot of friends, but there are people who respect (and/or fear) brutality. Stoic – gained for being unmoved/quiet in dialog options. Passionate - Diplomatic – for example gained by remaining silent when two people are arguing and you choose to not interject. Honest – gained for being faithfully. e.g. telling a guard that you broke in the house. Deceptive - Rational - http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Disposition *edit* Whoops. Looks like PrimeJunta just beat me to it.
  21. http://forums.obsidian.net/index.php?automodule=blog&blogid=1&showentry=120 The rest of Avellone's KotOR 2 mailbag.
  22. Utterly shameless necroposting...but in the last 9 years, has there been anything worthwhile checking out that takes place in the KotOR era? I actually read Revan's novel - which was the most feces of anything Star Wars related I've ever read -and I've read an embarrassing amount of Star Wars garbage in my time. Also saw that there was actually another KotOR comic series a few years back. Any good?
  23. The likelihood is very small for the initial release, but we did do work on it and it could be supported in an expansion. You may have missed this part Tsuga.
  24. I never thought Pickpocketing was such a big deal, and more or less a time wasting novelty when you consider utility vis a vis risk/reward. If one of the options to attain a plot critical item is to use some form of thievery, might as well do it through a scripted interaction, rather than the awkward pickpocket mechanic from the IE games.
